OK so I have even been a victim of drag-in knee on streets even had a pucker factor moment. so I ask why not drag knee. the best answer i get is because it's unsafe....HOW? no answer it's just unsafe. so here is some teck for ya.
when it comes to paving roads i have learned allot in my research. Did you know that asphalt comes in different forms? they also have different traction compounds. there are 4 types. t1 t2 t3 and t4. most tracks are paved in t1 or t2 witch are VERY expensive. hence to pave Jennings cost almost 1.2 mil for 2 miles!!!!! can you imagine you neighborhood streets? OK so our government want the streets paved... you think there asking for t1? hell no t4 it is! mostly rock not allot of powder. ahhh the powder is where the traction is! NOT in the rock. so the gov. isn't going to spend the money and now you have a contractor...well he wants to make money by saving money right? t4 or maybe a little less....your state takes samples to test to make sure it's t4 or better but come on! these are gov test! It's like saying you got to stay for jury duty! so your roads are made by the lowest bidding contractor who's trying to save some cash and the state requires the lowest grade of pavement. you following me so far? here's part 2 on tracks they discourage seams... the state doesn't care. when a asphalt machine starts and stops a seam is formed. or a small hump. not in your town right? pay attention the next time you get off the interstate. just as you exit onto the on ramp you will feel a little bump. if you have a knee down your about to go flying! So there ya go. some tech as to why not to drag knee in the street. i thought this would be better than DONT DO IT being shoved down your thought. now you have education so if you crash we can call you a dumb ass j/k

Some obvious reasons not to drag knee on the street:

- no run off - trees, rails, other traffic are a fraction of a second away if you make a mistake
- no ambulance just waiting to resuscitate your ass
- oncoming traffic
- shit on the road that you normally wouldn't find on the track (nails, gravel, antifreeze, diesel, etc)
- no corner workers to tell you that there's a hazard up ahead

...so yeah, even dragging knee at a place like the Gap isn't very smart. Fun, yes. Smart... nah.

Save it for the track.

Isle of man is another ball game. Normally their is no jumping in road racing. Those guys are just not right in the head. Those bike are still race preped. Their is also a nother key word, Professional. And yes I did detected the sarcasm.

Isle of man has to be the most exciting single event in sports! I love it, and I hope to visit one someday.

Anyway, back to the thread....Randy is 100% right, for several reasons, the street is a very dangerous place to push the limit.

randy, yes i agree, but if someone tells me that running head on into oncoming traffic will result with pain and/or death, i'm not going to need scientific proof. think of it as chlorine in the gene pool. if you tell them (the squids out there) that it's not smart, take it to the track and they disregard your concern for their safety, oh well. i hate to look at it that way, but there is only so much "hand holding" you can do with a grown man.

damn...thinking about the way sunday rides USED to be?? i can't believe we all made it out of there alive. 300+ miles EVERY SINGLE WEEKEND-- mostly in the top of 5th or 6th gear, 110 mph wheelies down every straight...i'm glad we all slowed down. when i first started hanging out and riding with kenny and dk, i always remembered dk saying that once you ride/race on the track, you'll slow down on the street. i never really believed that, but after spending a decent amount of time on the track, looking back at the way we used to ride on sundays makes me wonder what the hell we were thinking!!

I second that Mac. I rode this weekend with the group, mostly new people. But anyway guess who was at the back of the pack saying I wish these guy's would slow down? Everywhere we went most of the lead group with liter bikes were WTFO!

I am a track addict for sure, however I still like riding on the street with a group. There are just somethings that I just cannot do anymore. For example. I cannot just tear ass down the freeway at near triple digits on a Sunday ride. I cannot ride our local back roads taking blind corners and curves while pushing my skills to the limits. Well I just have to many things to list here. The bottom line is that riding with the group scares me. Not for my personal safety but theres. Do you know how many times I've seen a liter bike King with a ego and something to prove crash? I cannot tell you how many riders I have seen to get airlifted or killed. I'm at a point now of I just cannot witness another senseless fatal crash!

I owe a lot to Charles, Kenny, Mac, DK and others for getting me on the track, if I hadn't got on the track I would probably be dead by now. My point is how do we slow down the street riders that ride with us as a group?

sadly enough, it usually takes an accident or something to slow everyone down for a while, but it seems that sooner or later the pace picks right back up...
