Firstly, I'll admit I didn't read the entire thing. I skimed over it and some of the "key" points were wraped in too much legales and science fiction to keep my attention. What I want to know is, How the hell do you come to a conclusion, from a mere 900 cases from some 10-15 odd years ago, that say helmets have no substantial effect... So why are all these helmet companies sinking billions of dollars into R&D developing and improving helmet construction and safety?

if helmets dont protect your head why did they make it law for kids to wear one on just a bicycle?

realistic observation from an emt with 15 years scraping up the remains ... "when speed was in excess of 45 mph death was still probable only difference was open and closed casket, under 45 mph helmeted riders generally walked away from crash" (seems logical to me)
this same guy goes on to explain that's why he doesn't wear a helmet...(doesn't seem logical to me)
so i ask where he normally rides...response "city, to and from bar and home"
so i ask how often he exceeds 45 on his bar hopping trip...response "rarely"
so every time you ride you expect to die if you have a wreck??? :chin:
silence...then anger....then traditional i lose response "fuck you"
my response "sorry i was just trying to understand your logic since i figured you were the expert on motorcycle fatalities being an EMT and all..." :duh:
i figure a person that smart shouldn't have to wear a helmet...
not sure why we insist on protecting the gene pool....

Well......... I've crashed at well over 100 mph a couple of times. If I didn't have a helmet on I would be gone. :crap:

DITTO. Come look at Matt's helmet at the shop and tell me what yall think. Go look at Jason's helmet from his 90+mph get-off at Homestead. He was having beers with us that night!! Looking at the helmet though, you would be scared to ask if the person wearing it lived. I didn't read the first post, didn't bother, this is always a stupid subject. Just wear the fucking helmet.

i don't care if someone proves (mathmatically) that a helmet will up the chances of death. i've seen (and been part of a few) accidents that i was able to walk away from, knowing that a helmet paid for itself in a few seconds. yes, there are fluke instances where a helmet may cause more harm than good (like a seat belt trapping you in a burning vehicle after it saved you from a head on collision). that is such a small percentage. i, personally, will take that chance. helmet, it is!

Weed them out. Let the morons go without helmets. Get them out of the gene pool.

My Ducati dealer had a good test for the non-helmet crowd ...
Put arms behind your back. Lean over from a standstill and fall on your face on the asphalt of any parking lot, road, etc. Do you want a helmet now? For some reason most people opt out before taking the test...
