View Full Version : Bike and Car Night
I'd first like to get everyone's opinion on a bike and car night?
Also, what you Cornerjunkie members feel about having car guys on this site.

2 wheels good... 4 wheels bad.
I'd like everyone's opinion on just how the hell "Car Guys" made it on this site and how they know so much about bike racing ?
(Joking NASH)
I think a Sports Car and Sports Bike related event would go over well in this area...... The reception could be huge!!!!!!
It would have to be a big venue.......
Like a mall parking lot to fit all the machines and traffic.....
Also would be nice to see autocross/ motorcycle battletrax style tracks laid out to showcase the performance of cars and bikes.....
Maybe it would be a once a month deal....... Look into schedule of events at the Northwoods mall and seek out some insurance for autocross......
A lot more real sports car fans in Charleston then you would think......
Ring up Carl Troy or Rhett at European Road and Racing and see if they have any interest........
It would have a lot of potential ........
The whole Car Park scene can be witnessed almost everywhere throughout the summer months.......
It would be a nice change to see some form of competition from locals instead of simply displaying your pride and joy........
"NO STEREO CONTEST"
"NO WET TEE SHIRT CONTEST"
"NO NEON GLOW OFF'S"
Just fast equipment put through it's paces with competition event and some form of motorcycle and car concourse.........
Ring up some of the Dealer's to do display's car and bike........
Showcase their vehicles and all their new technology......
Do it right , do it "BIG" do it once or every other month to sustain the interest....... Weekly meets are always happening somewhere.....
Make this one worth while ......

I think its a pretty cool idea. Kenny could show off his miata!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :wtg:
Derek, just hit the ball outa the park! I like it!
I'm not so sure about the mall parking lot (space and insurance), but I know for sure I have a good standing with the manager at the Ice Palace. I'd rather do this at night, and the Ice Palace wouldn't bring in much traffic during the evening hours.
Several years ago, Kenny did a safety day at the shopping complex at the Dorchester/Ashley Phosphate corner. Lots of room there, but again, wouldn't be much support at night.
I think at first we don't need to be too large. Logistically speaking, it's much easier on us starting in the smaller to medium size and growing into a larger scale event, if possible. We can start out just about any place that will have us and move locations, due to size of the event, if needed.
I can get several members from the Corvette Club, Mustang Club and FastGM. All local guys and gals and all pretty cool...most of them love bikes too!
2 wheels good... 4 wheels bad.
Understandable and noted. In past car events that bikes were invited to attend, the bikes were mostly hidden in the back corners and considered an after thought...at least that's happened with most car events I've experienced. Any event put on by us, that wouldn't happen, I promise you that.

maybe a good time to showcase the fifty racing also
How about duncans boat harbor ramp. That place is about 8 acres of pavment and at night It's a gost town.
Room for 50 race
Not allot of cops MAYBE DNR....no one shoot anything!
I even think there is a bar there. just a thought
I think there may be too many parking blocks there ... At Duncan's....

I will bet that we will have a very very low percentage that will agree with this statement. I think that everyone here that knows me will tell you that I'm a biker. I like bikes of all kinds. Not just sportbikes. However that doesn't mean that I can't like cars too. That doesn't make me less of a biker.

Right O!
I think there may be too many parking blocks there ... At Duncan's....
There are allot but there at least 120ft apart... twice my truck and trailer. probably more

I love the battle trax idea. I threw the thought out there last year, but no one bit. Probablly offered it to the wrong group of people. But I like the idea. I say let's go for it. Plenty of sports car guys around here, and lord knows even the squids would show up to take a peek at least.
The ideal thing to do is make this event a Concourse De' Elegance style event..... Keep it tastefully done with all of the car dealers in the area garaunteed a great reception.... A place to showcase their high line auto's as well as high line bikes..... Classic as well as modern bike/car show categories with the motorsports mayhem on the surface of the autocross course....
Whenever I think about a sportbike show..... I think you know what comes to mind when we host one in this area..... Chrome, flashing lights, neon and poorly painted motorcycles..... This will do nothing but turn off the people that have the means to deem this event a success....
(the car guys who would be more than willing to put up the money for insurance and publicity material.....)
The SCCA has a few autocross events here in Charleston..... They have a hard core group...... I would like to see all the cars that are hidden in the Garage's in the downtown peninsula, I.O.P., Seabrook, Kiawah and all over the region..... The classic Jags, BMW's, Porsche, Lambo's, Ferrari,Aston Martin's, etc, etc..........
Same goes for any of the classic bike enthusiasts......
I don't want to see a bunch of clowns doing burnouts next to these machines and generally killing the vibe for a lot of people that would like to participate.......
There are a ton of people that would come out if it is done in good taste.....
Policing the event would be the key to it's success and continued success...
There are a ton of guys that would bring their cars out to put them through their paces if they could do it locally..... It's just building the hype up enough and getting the event posted in the proper outlets in which this demographic reads or watches......
This could be BIG!!!!!
It would offer everything to everyone..... Even if the clowns show up they would not be disappointed with their experience and they can see a lot of vehicles they are not familiar with and witness them first hand.......
In all we are all enthusiasts, but putting on another bike show/stunt display/tuner show/stereo competition will not be something any of us has never seen before......
Give these local Charlestonians a venue in which to showcase there gems (Bikes and Cars) along with aggressive driving/motorcycle riding and they will be hooked........
An event like this may only be able to be pulled out of the closet once a year but it;s a pursuit worth chasing......
With high dollar machines comes the event's best new friend ................
THE MEDIA !!!!!!!!!!!!
It would be fairly easy to pull this off if pitched to the auto dealers properly..... The bike shops will put in their share, but the real money is getting the auto dealers in on the action......
Team CJ get to work !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !
Go red team
Go blue team
GO................................................ .................................................. ?
Randy I just think logistically the evnt would not fit in there that well as there is only one access road in or out as well as all the required parking ......
Many Mall parking lots come to mind ......
Big places with NO CURBS .......
Also a place easily traveled to within sight of the passer by .....
Enough room for dealers and vendor's to showcase their stuff ......
Toilets to, a lot of them ......
Good vantage points when the crowd gets think .......
Enough room for 40-80 cars in a park ferme'......
40-100 bikes ......
150 Spectators in cars ...........
100 bikes or more ?
So ,
Anybody interested in doing the leg work for this one ?
Randy,
You might have a calling with this one ......
Who wants to organize this thing ?
I can help on the car end.
Nash ,
A meeting of the minds would be good .......
If not this weekend,
by next weekend ......
Let's see what we can make of this event ......
Insurance, media, sanctioning for autocross.....
Timing equipment, barriers, dealer interest, trophies, charity for reception of entries ...... ETC ETC ETC .......
Even if it takes another year to put this together let's do it right ......
:chin:
My Father made a great success of his Mini Meet a few years back.......
I have a knowledgeable person with many contacts on my side .......
We could pull this off if we have a few more people willing to help out .....
