Hey guys just got my new bike 2 weeks ago and already added stuff. I bought the smoked zerogavity shield and a Yoshimura RS-5 exhaust and i got the wheels powdercoated...do you like the wheels yellow? It has a sparkle to it to match the bike....sweet huh?

I like the dark 749. Why do you call it a beater bike? Is it in bad shape? I can't really tell by those pictures.

naa its in perfect shape, no chickenwire or anything....has one scuff on the seat, otherwise its perfect.... but its my beater bike because its the everyday cruiser and it's all dead stock.
knowing me, i wont be stock much longer.. but its not getting anything major.. its just the everyday beater...

it does need a seat of some kind though.. i can sit on the fiberglass no problem, but the alum plate cuts at my legs too much (yes ive ridden it like that before.. lol)

it still is ugly. the only reason mine would be less ugly then yours, is that you cant see as much of it when its dark out.
theres two things you need to realize about everything i said... 1.. its ugly, and i stand by that.... 2.. ive never put down its performance... or that of any other duc.. ive always been a fan of the bikes..and most other twin sportbikes..(although i hate the 'its better because its elite' attitude half the duc guys and most vette guys have) and most importantly 3... i wont ignore and discount a bike just because its ugly.. look at the 1125R thread for proof of that.

Anyway, yes, I do have chicken wire and that was a rather funny coincidence. Why a bracket wouldn’t work? Simple…..a bracket would conduct too much heat, which would continue to burn the fairing. The chicken wire folded several times then safety wired around the mid-pipe works as a great buffer between the exhaust piping and fairing.

Heres a unbiased opinion. I absolutly love the 999 body style of Dave's bike 05-06. But I didnt like the early models with the extra vents in the front of the nose and the cheesy cast swingarm. I think Ducati got it right on the nose when they changed the bike in 05. But thats just me. I seem to be one of the few that puts the 999 near the top of my list of best looking bikes.

Well if Trav got a ugly 749 maybe that means ill be next and get a busa soon! Um........I think not :smilebig:

i couldnt make a decision on one i liked... only one i really liked was the FJR.. and then i started thinking about when i was riding the ST2.. it was great, dont get me wrong, but there were plenty of times that i said to myself, 'i wish i was on the hawk'... usually when there was a nice turn infront of me or something like that..
then i started thinking... why a touring bike at all... comfort and storage... well, when i listed my prioritys, even though its the smarter choice i just didnt care about comfort that much.
so then i test rode a couple other bikes.. i couldnt see myself riding a RC51 everyday... i REALLY didnt want an inline four, SV650 would be too much like my hawk, etc.... really i was sitting at champion talking to jason running out of bike ideas when he mentioned a 749... the only thing i could hold against the idea is its ugly.... and thats a fairly trivial in the grand scheme of things.. im sure i'll get used to it eventually. one popped up and using a combo of the 'its going to be worth alot less because of the 848' excuse and waving cash in the sellers face, i got one really cheap.

as far as showing it off though.... when you go on a roadtrip by bike, i think its fairly normal to have the bike in the pic.. lol.

In fact on one of the occasions of riding it, I rather enjoyed whipping up on the 600 guy's. As far as handling goes, the FJR handles good enough for MK to enjoy doing a full track day with it, and rail through the gap dragging knees. BTW MK, when can I ride the new one?

umm, yea.. i know. i wasnt comparing power at all... throttlewise, the FJR feels like a muscle bike.... lotsa torque and theres always more power there. feels great.
the FJR is more then capable handling wise if you push it.. sure... but you're working to book it that fast. the ST2 felt smaller then it was... but it still left me with that 'i wish i was on my hawk' feeling when i wanted to just flick it.. im not going knee down on the ST2 or the FJR on the street on a whim... i will on the hawk, but thats only because its effortless.
in anycase, its always upto the rider.. some riders can leave me at the gap with a goldwing.. im not going to do that anytime soon.. lol.

Thanks man! I'll check these out. I really have no idea what look for in a camera even though I consider myself a tech geek. But I had the Sony Cybershot, which was horrible! The lighting had to be perfect or the pictures were too dark or too bright.
