How long have you been riding your bike as your only transportation? There are a lot of people who own bikes that could definitely ride there bikes more to save money. They usually have the same excuses, it's to hot, it's to cold, it may rain, my hair won't be perfect, etc.. I cannot ride my bike to work because of my job, however if I had a typical 9 to 5 I certainly would. My truck has a 31 gallon tank @ 3.29/ gallon to fill up. Your math is correct $101.99 to fill up! Heres a thought. I was thinking that if gas prices doesn't fall I could buy one of those small Kia cars and put a hitch on it to pull my bike to the track.

I'm going with Kat up to Vermont today, in the truck, with the bikes in the back. Estimated fuel cost there and back: $450

It would've cost $200 just a year ago.

Fuck you very much, GW

Yall want to hear someone bitch about gas.....? BEFORE it went up it cost me $60 to fill up lol a tank last 2 maybe 2 1/2 days. So yes if im not working im on the ten lol I drive a F-250 superduty. i own a construction company and drive an average of 175 miles a day. 1/2 of that with a trailor loaded. some days hauling about 4000 lbs of concriet. On those days you can watch the gas needle go down. On a side note we were going to take my heavy equptment {sp} down to new orleans this weekend to help out but now we cant afford the gas to get there. estimated cost round trip $1000 here's the math for ya 12.5 miles per gallon w/o trailor. well i'll get off my soap box now

Called Borge today the owner of Jennings GP and he told me the gas in Florida in his area is among the cheapest in the country right now. Less than across the border in Georgia. He said no worries down there of shortages so a few of us are going to pile in Kennys truck and head down there tomorrow for a Sunday trackday. Time to break open the piggy bank.

I have been using my motorcycle as my main transportation since 1999. I use to not want to ride in the rain or in the cold, so I would take the car. Then while I was in the car I would see someone riding and get very pissed at myself for not riding when they were. So I said the hell with it, bought the right gear and began riding everyday. The only time I will use the car that is now my brothers is if there is ice on the road or snow. And if I go out for a beer.

I think that's pretty neat.

Thats the way...
The only time I drive my truck now is when I go to pick my kid up at daycare. Otherwise...I'm carpooling to work or riding the bike if there is a schedule conflict.

You can never win, I remember not even six months ago that the price of diesel was more then Gas. It seems to be leapfroggin.

yea you're right, but you get better mileage out of the diesel

09-17-2005, 12:05 PM
Better Mileage? If your hauling a car or an enclosed trailor maybe. If you need power....there should be no other choice but diesel. But if all your doing is hauling a bike or three with an open trailer...the mileage is about the same...that is...if you own a chevy. I got 22 mpg hauling my bike and other peoples gear going through the mountains. If I get heavy on the throttle (80-90mph), I'm still getting 18 MPG.

If your buying a diesel just for the better gas mileage that isn't too smart. The diesel option in just about every new truck is about $5000 or so. You would have to put down some serious trucker miles to save enough money in fuel to pay yourself back the five grand. The average person would take probably 6 or more years for sure to even think about breaking even.

I must have gotten a bad chevy, because mine only gets 16 in the city and 16 on the hwy. I would say that my driveing habits are pretty good. I'm usually doing 80 on the hwy and fast as I can around town.

ford f-250 12.9 miles per gallon. gas. now that being said with the power stroke tranny doesnt matter if im towing or going to get groceries it's 12.9
Talked to donnie {truck mech} and he told me that the desil and the gas get the same milage. the advantage is when desil goes down in cost. HOWEVER the desil is more$$$$$$ to repair.

How old is your f-250? Mac had a 250 and he was getting 20 something mpg on the hwy pulling a covered trailer with 3 bikes, driving 80 mph. My dad has a 05 2500 chevy diesel, and he gets 18 mpg around town and 20 something mpg on the hwy. The new diesel trucks really do get some good gas mileage, and the motors last at least 3 times that of a gas engine.

i get 16.9 mpg period dot... 5.3L Chevy, towing crap... forget it looking around 12-14 probably never burned a full tank to tell. And in the mountains about the same as towing. I thought I saw that I could get a 2500 HD diesel for the same price of an extended cab z71, that was used prices but they were right around the same, i should have gotten the HD but i wanted the stickers instead.

09-18-2005, 03:56 AM
2001. it has this little mpg thing in the roof center console so thats why i can tell my milage. it's accually 12.8mpg I did mention that its the big crew cab 4X4 right...? i know the crew cab screws with the milage but dont know if the disingaged 4x4 does.. my last f250 {the red one} was 2x4 and it got 13.4mpg... sooo i guess so.

a couple of my friends have the 250 powerstrokes crew cabs 4x4 and they both get in the 17 range maybe you should get your shit checked out

09-18-2005, 10:07 AM
well ive owned 2 and they were both about the same... talked to jones and they said i could get this $200 thing done and it MIGHT work.... thought $200 on a "might"????????????? wtf... but the truck weights 4 tons literaly 7800lbs

Macs Ford Crew Cab 4x4 always got good mileage.

My Dads 01 Cummins with a powerchip gets about 18 to 19 hwy and 11 with our 24' race trailer. But it has a 4.10 gear ratio. Revs high on the hwy.

those overhead guages aren't very accurate if you're looking at real time mpg use. best way is to fill your tank, reset the trip meter, run it all the way down, fill it up and divide the miles by the amount you just put in. Best way to get an average too, you usually drive under all conditions in one tank of gas. I do it just about everytime i fill up so I know if there's something going on with my truck or if it's running different. usually around oil change time and filter and all that i lose about a mpg.

I'll second that overhead guage comment. They are kerraap. I got to tell you guys, crew cab sux the gas...if you can handle ext cab full size, you'll be in much better shape. From there...dual exhaust, under pullies and air filter or any combination there of are the best thing going. Also...remember that the bigger the tire....the more crucial it is to monitor tire pressure.

I wouldn't trade my chevy for nothing. I am averaging 17 MPG between my city and highway driving. When I go on trips I get 20+MPG.

hey I thought it was cool, kind of a hit right up front but in the long run you'd save money. plus who wouldn't want a french frysmeeling exhaust
