View Full Version : Forum expansion/changes 3/29/07
Hey all, it has been suggested to me that I make the forum a bit more motor/powersports-centric. We've pretty much specialized in motorcycles, but the idea all along has been to have serious riders, boaters, and drivers here, so...
I'm thinking of adding a Water Craft section, and an expanded Car / Truck section, instead of just the single Cages forum. This will also mean that there will be a separate Motorcycles /ATV's section as well.
It might look something like this when I'm done:
Southeast
- Charleston might add more regions if enough people from other areas, i.e. Savannah, show interest
Off-topic - General Discussion
- NWS
- SW
Cars and Trucks
- General discussion
- Tech/Tune
- Racing
Motorcycles and ATV's
- General discussion
- Tech/Tune
- Racing
Water Craft
- General discussion
- Tech/Tune
Business / Site Related I might also be willing to host your business sub-forum here, i.e. KWS :smilebig:
- Site
- Shadetree
...as an alternative, we could keep the racing discussion together for cars and bikes.
Let me know what you guys think, any additions, naming and order suggestions, etc etc etc

Here is my two cents...Break the racing sections into sub forums. Specifically, the THREE sub forums I would like to see in the auto section are Autocross, Road Racing, and Drag Racing. I find that it's easier to find and contribute information on those topics when it is discussed in a forum specific to the type of racing.
I would also probably break the Motorcycle Racing section into Road Racing and Drag Racing.
If something is felt to be left out, you could also add an "other racing" sub forum to cover anything that is not covered by the sub forums listed.

Hmm... not a whole lot of input... but since there are no objections either, I'll make the changes soon.
Hammer, my concerns with expanding the number of specialized topics are that it'll dilute the posts (i.e. we'll wind up with many sub-forums that have just a few posts each, versus the current state of many admittedly jumbled posts in few forums). However, I'm willing to try it, especially if more people get on board (hint hint) and start filling up the new framework.
So, if there are no objections, or further ideas, I'll get this done in the next few days.
1 more... mike do you have chrismas lights on the front of your apt that say "merry christmas 1979"?
Can we remove the merry christmas off the front page now that were in april?

I'm new to the site so my opinion means nothing but I like the site being focused on Motorcyles and Riders... There are 1,000,000,000 sites dedicated to car enthusiasts and I'd hate to see this site, which I just found, get overrun by the 20 year old Fast and furious crowd.. Just my 2 Cents...

Charleston is not a large city like some of the other areas. So having a forum with just motorcycles would be small. A lot of us here in town have dual motorsport hobbies. Weather it be bikes and cars, bikes and watercraft, or bikes and motorcross. It's nice to be able to hook up with your biking buddies to enjoy your other motorsport hobbies. I know that is true for me. Now who wants to go play in the dirt on Saturday?
striper dodgeball?!?!?!!??!

Hey now, your opinion matters, everyone can have their say here. Hell, we came up with the current forum name and format by choosing/voting on it.
Personally, I'd have no problem with the F&F crowd as long as they didn't try to crap all over the place, and in general behaved themselves. We here wouldn't allow the place to get overrun, so no worries :smile

Good moderators are your friend!
I do think forum rules are needed so we can moderate under Mike's conditions.

Also, this crowd here at Cornerjunkies is more of a mature, race fan base. We definitely have always had the most mature bike members among the Charleston sportbike forums. I don't know why we wouldn't have the same with cars or other power sports. The other Charleston "car" forums are not administered and moderated properly. It's personal attack after attack and the moderators laugh about most of them. If things get out of hand, all the Cornerjunkies moderators wouldn't feel bad about laying the smack down. I don't know if you've met Kat, but she pretty dang wiry! I'm not even sure if cars will work here. It's going to be an uphill battle, but it's worth a shot!

Common sense is an oxymoron... most people don't read posted rules... so the way I see it, the rules that everyone agrees to when they join are good enough to cover most legal bases, and the day to day forum stuff should be handled by moderators.
I don't like locking threads, banning people, or other forms of censorship. If someone decides to make an ass of themselves, gets personal/threatening/etc., I will move their posts/thread to OT. I've also added comments to some posts, but not actually edited the original contents themselves.
So I guess my ideal "conditions" would be to have moderators that aren't overzealous, and that can rise above personal attacks by members just trying to stir the pot. Hell, we're all pretty local, so it's not like someone can get away with talking too much crap, and not having to pay the piper afterwards :evillaugh:
whoo hoo it's not x-mas anymore!!! let the warm weather hit!

I agree with Dave here...you should see one of the uncontrolled local F&F forums that he and I recently participated in. It was crazy with the extreme freedom of posting there...
Anyway, proper moderation is the key.

I'm not even sure if cars will work here.
Right now in my secret laboratory I am making a HUGE batch of napalm to pour all over the cars I see. Cars are EVIL I tell you! All cars will be destroyed and I will rule the world. :evillaugh: :evillaugh: :evillaugh:
Whatever you folk decide. Cars always have and always will SUCK!
