I'm looking into getting some riding gear for the street and the occassional track day. I was searching the internet and found a site that sold AGV Sport leathers, boots and gloves. I was just wondering how good is this brand. I noticed they were priced well under other brands and I didn't know if this was for a reason. Also I want to get some new rubber for my bike. It came stock with Bridgestone Battleaxe BT015's. I was looking at getting either the Micheline Power Race or the Pilot Power 2CT. I want a tire I can use on the street and one that gives me good reliable traction on the track. Any help would be appreciated!!

I just got a set of agv sport leathers. They seem to be good quality. They are nice and thick and the fit isn't too bad. Little tight in the crotch region but that could just be me? As for the gloves and boots I went with A-stars. I wouldn't be afraid to check ebay or other forums and buy a set of used leathers. Can get them for cheap.
Agv sport leathers are not manufactured by the AGV company but an American subsidiary.........
Made in China and others were made in Pakistan .........
Fair quality leather ........
Stitch will blow apart on the hip area ........
If modified properly they will be fine ......... Send to a leather maker like syed for the mods..........
I had used a set as novice and had the seam blow out up the leg to hip region ........
A few more bucks may buy you an ugly but great set of used leathers ......
Do some more shopping, just don't risk the associated agony with the purchase of a cheap suit.......
Function before fashion when taking to the race track .......
Best of luck finding your suit at a good price ......
What size are you D? Someone around here might have something they don't need, that would work for you.

Well, i'm 6'1" 180 pounds. So I think that would be about a 46. I was actually looking at an A-star suit when I saw the AGV. They LOOKED to be about the same quality but wasn't sure.

Aight, just took some measurements and my chest is 42", my inseam to the floor is just over 33" and my waist is a 34. I was on ebay and found a guy in south Florida that makes and sells suits for 400 bucks. He also has a crap load of good feedback. I'm just kinda iffy about buying like that off ebay. Looks to be pretty good quality though. Here is a link to the ebay suit. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks!!!

i have a set of agvsport leathers, and as dk said, they do come apart at they hip area in a crash. when i say 'come apart' i don't mean that the whole leg of the leathers come flying off, just a small part of the seam came undone when i crashed (at VIR). after the second crash (at jennings) in the same set of leathers, i had the hole sewn closed again, and i even had a third crash in them (at roebling, close to 100mph or so) and they are STILL usable. i think they're pretty durable for the price. although they could be a little more comfortable, they still fit pretty good, too, even with a back protector.
as for the tires...i'm pretty sure most of the people on this forum will tell you that if your bike is fitted with race tires (new or take-offs) for the street, put another set on before you go to the track. good take-offs that can still be used on a track day are pretty easy to come by in chucktown, so why take the chance. good luck finding some gear!! :twocents:

I have some AGV Phantoms that I got a few years ago,,, I crashed in them twice at the track. One crash was at a pretty high speed, the stitching came off in the hip area but it was repaired easily enough. The second time I wore out some stitching in the right arm/shoulder area but it was also easily repaired. So 2 crashes and not a scratch for about half the cost of the alpinestars that I wanted.
You should def go alpinestars for boots and gloves though. I love my SMX plus boots.
Here's the shot from my avatar,, they are pretty good looking leathers in my opinion also. I don't like the power ranger look. less is more. :wtg:

Is that the SP-4 suit? The SP-4 is what I was looking at getting. I am actually going next week to get a pair of A-star S-MX 4 boots. I already have a pair of pretty decent Joe Rocket Mercury gloves. I will probably be buying leathers within the next month or two. I just want to do some research and get opinions before I actually buy. Thanks for all the help!

It's just called the AGV Phantoms,, I think I bought it back in 2002 for like $600. It was AGV's flagship suit back then,,, It is a great suit,, I couldn't ask for any more.
I would probably buy the Teknic Kangaroo suit if wasn't so damn ugly and expensive ....

The suit I want is an A-star but i'm not gonna pay 1600 bones for a suit right now. Maybe if I ever start racing or sumthin'. But for occasional trackdays and street rides, I think the AGV will suit me just fine.

I saw that suit you looked at on ebay. I would stay away from that. I looked at it and eh just looks like junk to me. Didn't say how thick the cow hide was, maybe you could ask the guy.

definately a good idea to stick to a name brand.

This suit is the best bang for the buck in my opinion,,
Can't find any other Roo suit for close.

that's a lot of bucks... i wouldn't call it the best bang for the buck lol... i'd say that agv sport mac has or probably the one you or I have might be the "bang for the buck". I think i paid around 300 bucks for mine used, but never used... also.. .agv and agv sport are two different entities... aren't they?

I said it's the best bang for the buck for a Kangaroo suit.

Teknic makes some pretty sweet stuff. If I had to order one, I would probably go with the Chicane. It's only 500 bucks and it doesn't look too flashy. I thought the one on ebay was probably crap but I wanted to get a second opinion. Thanks for all the addvice!!!!

Check out this link to fastlap. There are a few people on here that have Kobe leathers and they are pretty good and crash well.

Don't ever get one of the low end Teknic's,, I've literally seen them shred to peices after a low speed crash,, the high end ones are good but the cheap ones are crap.

Good to know, I think I will stick with AGV. At least for now!
