I need some help. My really good friend is in Korea for the Air Force and is returning next month. He asked me if I could get his jetski up and running before he got here. It's a Yamaha but I don't know the exact model. It has been sitting since he left last year. I know the battery needs to be charged and water flushed through the system but is there anything else I need to do to ensure it will run properly. He has bent over backwards in the past helping with out with stuff and I want to atleast do this for him. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

So did they ever get it up and running ?

The shop is busy, still cleaning up after some guy named Scrapyard .....

Go figure that one out ?

Yeah, I took the carbs off, cleaned and rebuilt them. New plugs and battery too. It's a Yamaha GP800R. I talked him into using Benol instead of Yamalube for his oil and now it runs like a fat kid chasing a twinkie!!! It took some time and trying to remove the exhaust to get to the carbs was a pain in the ass. But it was well worth it. We took it out to Moultrie this past weekend and he said it runs better now than it did when he bought it. I appreciate ya' asking!!!

Beware of castor bean oils in the GP 800R as they can clog up the power valves...... If he has not installed the updated power valves he may want to check his boats service history to determine if the good ones are in it.....

The power valves will drop out and damage the pistons and cylinder..... Sometimes taking out the crankshaft too ........

Beware......

bean oil is good for seeking out the hot spots on pistons, but leave deposits of carbon everywhere else ......

Gotcha! I'll have him check. I think he will probably know. He bought it new back in '03. I told him to use it because that's what I used to run in my Banshee when I raced it back in Florida. It worked really well in my four wheeler so I thought it would do as equally good in his ski. How difficult would it be to upgrade to valves?

I would think the rain, you, and Jason is a perfect fit, maybe some Duran Duran playing in the back ground........
