I've been trying to get dumwinnie's ol R1 to light off but to no avail. Fuses are good(checked with VOM),crash switch is resting in the "up" position, cranking rpm is good. From what I can see everything is connected except for a few connectors(tail and turn sigs)a red 2 wire connector(don't have a clue?) next to the key switch connector and a cream 2 wire connector next to the start solenoid. Now being an EFI system. Does this thing need fuel pressure before the ECM will say light'm up boys? Or something to that effect?

Sure would be nice to have the key switch.

Make sure the fuel pump is getting power. No fuel, no run.....

There are some relays that signal the fuel pump, test them and see that they are getting proper voltage.

just because its EFI, doesnt mean inital troubleshooting is much diffrent.

check spark,
check fuel.
and if you donno what a connector is, either look it up, or connect it (the bike is setup so you cant connect it to the wrong thing)

Problem is no spark.
Connector, there is nothing to plug the red connector into that I can see.
Trouble shooting is all basic...fuel,spark,compression and air.
What I need is to see another R1. I checked the fiche at Ron Ayres but didn't see what I needed.
Thanks for the help!

Do you have both clutch and side stand switches installed ?

Is there signal from the pick up sensor ?

Follow wires from pick up sensor, do they go into relay box?

Is that relay good?

Does the service manual mention any kind of voltage drop from the ignition switch?

On some bikes the ignition switch has resistor and lowers the voltage to other parts ie CDI unit.

Pick up sensor damaged in accident?

Both clutch and side stand switchs are in place(need to check cont. on both).
I'll check res and cont on pick up sensor.
I need to get a 03 service manual. I picked up a manual on CD that was supposed to cover 98-04. BS! The only year covered was 98(only lost $12.50)
DK you know this bike,it's Davids. According to him it would still run.

Well I done a couple tests
Side stand switch had no cont. I had another on hand that worked correctly. Still no change.
Tested pick up coil. Tested with in spec.
Tomorrow I try to find the ign relay.

Think I know why sparkie hasn't returned. As noted before I'm waiting for dumwinnie to find the key switch. The red connector in question connects to the key switch also. I was just jumping the the main connector that would only power up the frame system and not engine control system.
