most of the time its just plain jealousy
I am definitely jealous of every Z06 owner! You guy's suck.
a C6 Z06? defiantly.
but a C5 is nothing more then a very mildly upgraded LS1, stuffed into the fixed coupe roof body as a last ditch effort to save the FRC bodystyle.
before the Z06, noone wanted to buy a FRC. lol.
you can talk about weight savings, and such, but the reality is, you dont save much weight, it adds up to dick.. and the motor really doesnt make enough power to makeup for the z06 price increase. after all, the "z06" intake ended up as the stock intake on every 01+ LS1 car.. the heads are on every LS2 ever made... and the cam is bearly bigger then a stock 99 fbody cam.
id rather get a better looking coupe or vert, then stick a babycam in and whomp z06s with the top down.
(now THATS talking shit.. saying "duur, your bikes ugly" isnt. lol )

Well, that's only if you don't have a girl riding with you, so yeah, you'd win in the coupe.

oh noes. if its the coupe, then i can just pop the hardtop on.. and bam... a nice sexier looking vette, with a curving back glass thats both more ascetically pleasing and aerodynamic.
but realisticly... any girl stupid enough to go out with me, will deal with me having the top down. :lmao:

OMFG, If it was only that simple as to what the c5 Z06 is. You should get a real clue of what a Z06 is because you are far off the mark.
And as far as putting a "baby cam" in an C5 coupe (which you don't even own)....A typically modified LS1 coupe with a baby cam is at most a drivers race against a Bone stock Z06. But anywa, you seem to forget one thing, you can do the same cam thing to an LS6, so that makes that "baby cam" mod irrelevant.
Oh, and as far as the FRC...it is one of the most sought after c5 vettes right now. They bring more than a regular coupe and they sell FAST! The reason it wasn't the biggest seller back when it was new is because most of the typical NEW corvette buyers didn't know what it was. After all, the truth is, the FRC style is a performance enthusiasts car. The typical Corvette buyer is more of a "waxer" type who must have his removable top.
And Aerodynamics of the coupe versus FRC style. That has been one of the most wrongly assumed myths. The fact is... the Cd coefficient of the both are pretty much the same. Most assume the lower top speed of a stock Z06 is because of aero reasons. Nope, it's not. Can you tell me why? But anyway, the highest STOCK C5 top speed has been achieved in an...<drum roll>...the FRC

Hmm... "New 2008 New bike info and pics"... in the "Motorcycles and ATV's" forum... do you guys want me to split the topic and put the Vette stuff in the cage section where it belongs?

oh i know all the lightweight BS too.. and everything else.. ive been following the development of C5s ever since 99 or so.. before the z06 was even a possibility.
you may know more about OWNING the car, but i still know a shitload about it mechanically.
And as far as putting a "baby cam" in an C5 coupe (which you don't even own)....A typically modified LS1 coupe with a baby cam is at most a drivers race against a Bone stock Z06. actually, if we're talking modding the engines at all, it makes the whole LS6 irrelevant.

while i agree, 99% of corvette owners are douchbags, i still disagree that a epoxied on plastic roof makes it a better performance car. the only reason the chassis is more rigid is because the FRC has the vert frame bracing... thats it.
so on behalf of convertible lovers everywhere.. you're welcome.
And Aerodynamics of the coupe versus FRC style. That has been one of the most wrongly assumed myths. The fact is... the Cd coefficient of the both are pretty much the same. of course they're "pretty much the same" the frontal area is identical between the two cars. although we both recognize the loser in this "close contest" is still the FRC... anyway, the diff is in how the air pours off the back of the car. the FRC sucks there.
stock for stock for stock top speed? all of the z06s had manual transmissions with better gear ratios. that coupled with the very small hp increase is enough that they squeek by for top speed.
the reality is... they're ok cars if you want a status symbol.. or if you want a toy thats decent, and you dont know enough about cars to mod a real one. the number of real car guy vette owners who really mod their cars is tiny... and of their small subgroup, theres still alot of douchbags. lol. so mostly my feelings toward vette owners is based more upon that.. rather then the car itself. the car itself is ok.. between the hydroformed frame rails, balsa floors and everything else, its a great engineering acheviement.. esp for the price... however, its still overshadowed by the douchbag owners and the guys that circle jerk because its a z06 or a specical color or what not.

yea, but nerds are cool nowdays.. i know its hard for you old people to understand, but its true...
This is the most idiotic discussion I've seen here in a long bit. Dude's lame attempt to degrade MY Z06 is just another reason why he can't shit talk. Sure the C5 coupe is very similar to the C5 Z06 and do you know why? Because it's still a FUCKING C5 VETTE! He's not a nerd, Kenny, he's a genius!
Dude, put your baby cam in your C5 coupe (which I'll remind everyone, he doesn't have) and lets met at Roebling so you can actually stroke all your built up penis envy at the track instead of on a damn forum. Sound good? I'll show why that little extra bit of money is worth every penny.

i agree, 99% of corvette owners are douchbags
Now I really want a vette even more. Do you think they could use a arrogant assholes in there group? If so I'm in!
I think that it's wrong to group all vette owners into this category. I have probably 6 to 8 of my friends here in town who have vettes. I don't think of any of them as douchbags. Most of them are just plain old sport car enthusiast like yourself. Non of them were born with a silver spoon in there mouth, so they are working stiff just like you and I.
Not saying that any group should look down on another, but there is nothing in the world wrong with having a little pride in there rides. All of my friends that are vette owners work very hard to have there expensive fiberglass pieces of joy. Calling 99% of the vette owners douchbags is just wrong and unwarranted in in my opinion. Sure Dave is a A-hole but he is certainly not a douchbag.
I know there are some douchbag vette owners out there, but please don't throw them all in the same bag. I feel the same about sportbikers. Please don't throw us all into that ignorant, uneducated, stereotype there as well. Because it's just not true.
BTW I personally like the Z06 vs the C5 for several small reason. The Z06 is a little more rare, the larger brakes, transmission gearing, suspension, extra hp and the most important one of all, the exterior styling. Those little things make it more desirable to me.
If I had a vette I would definitely be the waxer type, who would occasionally take it out to beat up on the hammer in autocross.

i didnt put ALL vette owners in that category.. just 99% of them.
the 1% that remain, use their car on the track, mod it, arnt totally ignorant, etc...
of the THOUSANDS produced, that one percent number is still a very large number.
but yea, most of them are douchbags. maybe its wrong to lump them together like that, but thats personal experience.
just like i can say, over half the people with motorcycles are idiots... am i saying half the people I KNOW with bikes are idiots? no. because i generally dont hang around idiots... but you have to admit, you see alot of guys drinking to excess in bars, then leaving on bikes. running around with no gear doing stupid stuff... people that dont know countersteering, emergency braking, etc.. but still think they can ride... hell i know you know thoes that think they can ride, and really cant. add them all up, and what do you get? that the minority is the group that isnt stupid. cant argue with that.. and that means.... about half.. like the statement at the start of this paragraph.
now, is that a NICE thing to say? no.
but it does provoke a reaction... and really thats all im doing.. mostly because im bored at work.
nash:
ive lived with a vette.. honestly, a vette doesnt work for me, i dont want one... the engine is nice...really the drivetrain is great. the suspension is good for road racing... but i dont road race... i like alot of the engineering in it.. but dont go thinking i dont have one because i cant get one.
really for me, theres only one thing in the vette i want.. the engine.
so... i got one. then i shoved it in a car that weighs less then your vette... and then i set it for what i wanted.. drag racing.
if i wanted a vette-like car.. id get a FFR GTM, or something of that nature... not a vette.. really the car doesnt do much for me.

I think the C5 is a really cool car alot of BANG for the buck. But My favorite car is still the 350z! I owend one for a lil while it was a great car for the money. It handled great and had just the right amount of HP for a NOVICE driver to enjoy. I think even Kenny's zoom zoom ass Liked it.

MOUNT PLEASANT — Thomas Parsell, a local entrepreneur and restaurateur, died Wednesday night in an automobile accident on U.S. Highway 17.
Parsell, 63, of Charleston, was traveling south on the highway about 6:40 p.m. and had just stopped at a red light at the intersection with Park West Boulevard, said Mount Pleasant police Sgt. Pat Carter Jr.
It appears that, when the light changed, Parsell might have accelerated too quickly and lost control of his classic silver-colored Corvette, Carter said.
Parsell's vehicle crossed the grassy median and struck a Volvo traveling in the opposite direction, Carter said. An SUV then hit the rear of the Volvo.
Parsell suffered blunt-force trauma and died at the scene, Charleston County Deputy Coroner Kelly Myers said. Another driver was taken to East Cooper Regional Medical Center, treated and released, Carter said.
A former automobile dealer, Parsell was president and principal proprietor of Charleston-based Hospitality Management Group Inc.
Bob Lang
Scene of car crash Wednesday on U.S. Highway 17 in front of Park West in Mount Pleasant.
He and his business partner, noted chef Donald Barickman, helped the city establish its reputation as a culinary destination with their 1991 opening of Magnolias on East Bay Street. They went on to open Blossom Café in 1993 and Cypress Lowcountry Grill in 2001.
All three restaurants are still in business, no small accomplishment given the highly competitive nature of the dining scene in downtown Charleston.
According to his company's Web site: "Parsell and Barickman have gained a reputation of excellence in the industry and have received accolades for their properties from such notable critics and food experts as Gourmet Magazine, Bon Appetit, The New York Times, Southern Living, Nation's Restaurant News, The
James Beard Foundation, and the Food Network."
Parsell was a graduate of Southern Methodist University and owned Tom Parsell Chevrolet Inc. from 1975 to 1989. He sold the dealership to Rick Hendrick.
In 1989, he was interviewed for The Post and Courier. He said, "Since coming to Charleston in 1975, I've seen an explosion of population and the development of the most exciting business climate anyone could imagine."
A Honda and Toyota dealership Parsell formed in 1990 was sold in 2003.
Parsell also was a founder of Bank of Charleston, which is now part of Carolina First, and he lectured on entrepreneurship at the college level.
Parsell was active with his wife, Suzi, in local preservation efforts.

I dont have allot of input for the vett world. im a truck guy.
However I want to share this story with you guys.
I was working in D,Island about 2 years ago. All my guys are car / motor guys. Construction go figure. Well we were on this jobsite and we were there for about a week. at the end of the project the homeowner goes to the garage and pulls out some late modle Sheril kelby cobra corvett. The 4 core raiator and the dash were autographed by carol shelby in black permanent marker. This car is a work of art. I asked him how much it was worth and he told me over $250,000!!! He told me he had a plymoth tigershark also but I have never even heard of that. however he stated it was worth more than 300k. So just FYI there is a carol shelby vett here in town.
Thanks Randy
BTW if you drive it a truck brought it!
Randy, you must have the name wrong, if it was a Vette. Carrol Shelby hasn't done a Corvette, that I know of.
