View Full Version : Are the "Big bikes" Done?
Well after riding sport bikes for a while I notice trends. I have noticed a new one. The 1000's a whipping up on the "big boys" the busa's the zx12r's and even the bmw 1200. After reading an article about these 3 I noticed in the end they couldn’t help but to mention the zx10r. Who wasn’t even in the group. I have also noticed frustration by all the busa owners out there when racing the zx10r or the gsxr1000. So is the 1000 era killing the Big boy theory? Is there really no replacement for displacement? When the 1300cc heavy busa is sweating to stay within sight of one of these awesome flyweights is this game over? This also coming on the verge of kawi releasing a new 1400. Is this bike to late? Is this race over before it hit the showroom floors? The new 1000's such as the master bike the zx10r or the awesome gsxr1000r or even the R-1 is really running faster than the big dogs. It would seem so. The busa owners only have 1 thing to hold on to right now and that’s a big torque number. I often hear "well the 99 busa is the fastest in the world" well Ok but it also didn’t have timing retarded witch every bike after 2000 had. So is that REALLY fair? I mean any super bike class can have the timing fixed for as little as $30. Then they’re running those speeds too! So the question in witch were asking is......
Q:For at least the next couple of years do you feel the 1100+ bikes age is over? Yet to be replaced by the 1000 club.
I will ask this in a couple of forums and let everyone know the results soon. I would also like for you to ask other forums. Thanks Randy sczx10r

Honestly I don't see how anyone can afford the insurance on a 1000 much less 1300 and 1400 ( new ZX14). I make fair money for my age with a clean driving record and no insurance claims and I can barely manage my R1 insurance.

I am like you Scott. I can afford the insurance of a big bike but I just don't feel that it's worth it to me. What can I do on a liter bike that I cannot do on a 600? Nothing except to get into trouble faster. I can go 165 mpg on my 600. That's more than enough for me. Now what can I do on my 600 that I cannot do on a liter bike. Well, I can go faster on the track with the 600. I also have way more fun on a 600 vs a liter bike on the track. I have more fun carving up deals gap and other twisty roads on a 600 vs a liter bike. So why should I own a liter bike? To have the fastest bike in town? To be able to fit in? For show? To make up for my lack of endowment? Well you can scratch the latter. No problems there I'm told. So that's why I don't own a liter bike. Maybe you big bike guy's can tell me why you choose to have a liter bike vs a 600!
I like the on demand power. I hate waiting for a 600 to spool up. drives me nuts.

Personaly for me something like the Ducati S2R would be the perfect street bike for me. 800cc air cooled and only 2 valves per head but a ton of torque down low. All the big bikes are good for on the street now are getting you tickets or worse.
I think a Busa or the new ZX14 would be a good bike for a big guy that wants to do some touring but you still have to use a lot of restraint with the right hand.

Matt is right, the big bikes and the 600s are all good for one thing "getting you into trouble" as a matter-of -fact I now have no lic and about $1000 in tickets I am going to sell my GSXR 1000 or turn it into a racebike. besides the only time I'm ever having fun on the thing is when I'm breaking the law. with the money I'm going to pay in tickets I could have gone to ten trackdays!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :wall:
what in the hell did you do? $1000 in tickets?!?!?!?

Since insurance is so high on 1000s and you have a suzuki Jason, I will take it off your hands for 25 dollar maybe fifty to help out with the tickets. Just trying to help when I can.

Damn... I have a 1300... I guess that means my dingaling is smaller than most ya'll's pubes :alright:
Why a liter bike? All-around power... and a little more comfort... maybe. Don't have to wring the thing's neck to get going or to stay at speed.

I love the 600's. If I was ever to go bigger then I would go for a Harley Davidson. For Street use for me the R6 is a hoooooot. It is cheap on insurance, chain last longer and so do the tires. and if I had a R1 or a gsxr1000 I would be broke from all the tickets and maybe sitting in jail.
I am just happy people are riding.

okay now I'm going to chime in here on this one.........I own a busa, reasons I bought it are very simple, I like the power, it's a comfortable bike to ride, & with the small mods I've done it doesn't handle to bad.....oh & I bought it for under 5 g's, for me it was the perfect "street bike" yes I plan I getting a 600 for the track. which the busa is not the best at the track, but I did have fun when I brought it to roeblin last year.
