So, is this where the local hooligans hang out? :chin:

First post, so I thought I'd intro myself.

I've ridden dirt and street on and off for 30 years; had to give up dirt a while back due to a blown ACL. I currently ride a Kawasaki ZRX 1200R. Got it dyno tested a few weeks back and it runs much better now :wtg:

I occasionally ride with fellow members of the ZRXOA (ZRX Owners Association), and recently had the pleasure of riding the Cherohala Skyway and HWY 129 at Deal's Gap (the Dragon). Got into the twisties and sweepers big time and I'm hooked :help:

So, what are some decent roads to ride on around here? I don't mind a long ride as long as it's interesting- we were covering 400 to 600 miles a day running the mountains back in September :wtg:

I live in Summerville, and on a nice day, I'll burn a couple tanks of gas - but the roads are getting kinda boring. I hate riding near cages, so I head out of town and hit the rural backroads.

Any suggested roads I should try = or avoid?

Keep the shiny side up!

Hello Surfdancer and welcome. My name is Barry BTW, and I live in S-ville as well. If you didn't know already, most of us hookup on Sunday's at the Mall in N.Charleston around 1:00. This Sunday we are meeting up to ride in the Charleston Parade. Myself and quite a few of us here could tell you some stories about deals gap. Unfortunately I've visited the tree of shame a few times. This past spring we had a group of over 20 people to go to deals gap. You talking about fun. Anyway I hope to see you on the street.

Welcome, and thanks for dropping us a line ....

I would presume you are a little more mature than our regular users , but correct me if I am wrong..... From the amount of mileage you are putting in, you sound as if to be a true "Sport Touring Rider" .... Not too many around here although MK would like to differ....

Most welcome here , and if interested in the sunday ride thing there are a few to choose from ....

Early sunday mornings around 8:00 am there is a group of rider's from the Folly Beach Area that meet up at the backstage deli on James Island....
You'll find my father on his S4 ,R1100RT's, SV650, RC 51 BMW c650 and a few other sport standard machines..... Older crowd (well early 40's to mid 50's)..... Very knowledgable bunch and easy going.... One or two might touch the ton every now and again but very well behaved ...... These guys also do quite a few track days so if the older crowd is your thing then look up King111@aol.com..... (Gordon King) Or Roger Prevost and Dave Frairlix

There is another sunday morning bunch that meets at the Starbucks Downtown on The Corners of Calhoun and East Bay Street on Sundays at 11:00 am .... Mostly the Metric cruiser harley crowd with a few sportbikes thrown in for good measure ..... A few power cruisers VTX , V-Max ..... A long ride to lunch somewhere usually..... These guys also do a lot of Road trips to Virginia beach and New England, so if the long road trip is what you crave then you have got to hook up with these guys.......
Look up Sean Porter ......

Then there is the Northwoods crowd...... Usually being wrangled by Barry Davis..... Barry is a very knowledgable local that has been riding in this area for I would say the last decade..... Decide what type of riding you want to do and Barry will have you there in no time..... Some fun roads around here if you know where to look..... You won't find anything like the mountains , but you won't get bored if you know where to go ....
The northwoods crowd is a younger demographic composed mostly of pure bred sportbikes..... R1, GSXR 6,7,1000, CBR 1000, maybe a duck, and amny others.... 20-40 somethings with plenty of balls..... If Barry or any of the regulars are there then usually things go pretty smooth, just ride at your own pace.... From the sounds of it you have plenty of experience so if nothing else , just be predictable ..... There are times when some newbie superhero wants to be like Rossi, but rides like a train on the beach.... Mind you that you know what to look for.... An ecletic group of guys with the great common interest...... Always fun , never boring ..... Just keep your eyes in the mirrior for the 9 foot busa in the left lane .................................................. .................................................. .....
Get in touch with MK or Sum650

Thanks for the info. I don't do the jet ski thing, but I still do the boat thing. I used to be into offshore fishing, but a bum knee and an ear infection kinda took the fun out of offshore trips. Now I have a little lake boat (a 17' Stingray), and mess with the bike.

I'll have to hook up with some of you after the holidays. I'm 45 years young, so the older and wiser crowd sounds like the best group to meet up with. I'll have to drop your dad a line when things settle down after Christmas.

Thanks for the warm welcome and detailed reply.
