I've dealt with similar car electronics, and this looks like the real deal.

Key feature:

"• On board memory allows data to be logged without the use of a laptop/PC."

You could get it, tune your bike, and loan it out to let it pay for itself. Ummm... on second thought, nah, don't, very bad idea, forget about it...

...I'll call you when I get mine... only $50 if you borrow it, or $100 if you want me to tune your bike

Like Mike said this is the ticket here. Hell you can't tune your bike any better than this. This is better than the dyno. $400 is a bit steep, but if your going to buy more than one bike in the next couple of years, or you tune a couple of buddies bikes, then you've got your money back. Steve R. made one and tuned his old ZX12 with it. This thing is nice.

with that kit you need to make sure that you have the port in the header for the sensor alot of aftermarket full systems com with them

yea i got the port on the micron

Why would you be looking to buy this? You already had you bike dyno tuned by one of the best guy"s on the east coast. How much extra do you think that you have to gain?

Well as I do add on's my map will need to change. and those custom map's cost $$$$ 2 custom map's would pay for this item. no offence burns.

the only add ons you can do now that would require a new map would be motor work which if you do that then why would you risk doing it yourself after you paid someone to do the work in which case if you map it yourself after motorwork then whoever built the motor would say the responsibilty if there are any problems will ly upon you

That makes good sense Chris. Why would I pay someone a couple of grand for motor work and then try to save $200 bucks on dyno tuning?

If someone is going to build a motor for someone the the cost of the mapping should me added to the cost of the motor build.

With the 02 sensor this is the best step in making a home made closed loop system that could read the parameters at all times, negating the need to dial it in.... You would have to have some kind of on board processer/computer...

An excellent idea !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :wtg:

Thanks for the post ZX10

Don't get fooled into thinking you are going to be able to create an entire map for your machine unless you are going to participate in a track day.....

As the last time we used the Shade Tree dyno we could not control the headshake and the deer were really interested in what type of headlight bulb we were using......

DON'T BE DUMB .....................

Randy , unless you go up to Maxton or have at least 1.5 miles of clear closed course in front of you, you could not completely optimize your bike....

This sytem should be better than a dyno for the effect the Ram air places on fueling requirements .......

Just ,

DON'T BE DUMB.............

lol soooo no on the street dyno runs huh

Anyway ..... I think we all know what your gonna do.....

I am not saying it can't be done ..... Just should not be done without "Proper
care and forsight" .....

That is all .... Looks and sounds awsome ...... Let me know how it works.....

Dyno just makes life a lot easier if you are going to make any big changes and note the difference....

Hard to do development on the street .....

This unit should do you just fine to dial the fuel in ......

Stole this off another board about the same subject.

The Wide Band Commander is a tool that is used for fine tuning a fuel injection map. You need a good base map to use the features of the Wide Band Commander. You also need to attach it to the throttle position sensor and a coil lead to record rpm. What you get for data is A/F, throttle position, and rpm sampled 10 times per second for up to 10 minutes. You get pages and pages of data when when you download 10 minutes at 10 samples per second. The biggest problem with the Wide Band Commander is the A/F readings are about 1 second behind the rpm log. It is worse in 1st and 2nd gear because the engine is accelerating much faster that the sensor can read the A/F ratio. This is the problem with commercially available oxygen sensors, lag time. On a load control dyno you can hold the rpm steady until the A/F ratio stabilizes.
Building a custom map from scratch using the Wide Band Commander would be difficult if not impossible. There is no way to read the throttle position while riding the bike. Mapping 100% throttle from 3,000 to 12,000 rpm in 4th gear would be dangerous on public roads. I use the Wide Band Commander to fine tune maps on the race track from 80 to 100% throttle. High speed operating conditions are different in the real world vs a dyno due to wind resistance and ram air effect.
Money would be better spent on a custom map on a load control dyno by an experienced tuner vs spending $400 to $500 on a Wide Band Commander.
The fuel injection systems on today's motorcycles compensate for altitude changes from -300 feet to +10,000 ft MSL. They use a barometric pressure sensor and map sensor [manifold absolute pressure] to tell the ecu altitude and air density.

damn just make it easy on yourself & go to a dyno tuning center.....IE kws, or some other respectable one!!!!!!

12-06-2005, 09:39 PM
well yea but you cant utalize the ram air on a dyno... I have been reading up on this tonight and am getting the impression this is good for another pony or two beyond the custom map. just havent decided if a pony or 2 is worth $500 and hour of banging my head against my lap top.

Randy,

For what you're planning on doing and what this is more suited for are 2 different things. The wide band is a great tool if you're trying to adjust power around the midrange. hence guys who are road racing and trying to gain crisper throttle responce on corner exits were the engine is spinning in the middle of the RPM band.

For stright line stuff, the engine is going to be spinning past those points fast enough that you'll never really notice a difference. You have more mods ahead of you befor you need to be thinking about this.
