New to the forum. Been troll'n for awhile now. Sure to meet most of you at future rides or track days. Not much for late tree rides. I have a wonderul 20 month old daughter who likes my afternoons. Usually I am riding by 11 am weather permitting. If you see this bike it is me.

Welcome and nice scooter!

No Sweat, I wear full gear all the time. I kinda felt like a dork
today being the only sport biker with the full attire during the memorial ride.
My sister in-law calls my bike a scooter. If she wasn't over 250lbs I would put her on the bike for a ride.

Heh... in several countries in Europe, full sized bikes are often affectionately called "mopeds"... I suppose the same as calling 500HP snowmobiles "sleds" :smile

Thanks for all the Welcome's. I am definitely looking forward
to riding with you folks. My bike need's some friends. I was actually riding next to Turbo Storm yesterday when his rear end locked up at the corner of Maybank & Riverland. I felt bad for the Harley behind him that got rear ended by the CBR. When do most of you folks prefer to ride ?? Mid Mornings or Afternoons ?? I am usually done riding by the time tree crowd heads out.

hmm. i coulda swore i replied to that... really, i know i did.

mike:
Dan could tell you exactly what happened, but the jist of it is, the retaining nut for the front sprocket somehow backed off.. the sprocket slipped off and the chain wrapped itself up, locking his rear wheel.
he safely slid to a stop, and the guy on the harley stopped behind him.. and was apparently bumped by a CBR that didnt stop in time.

Whoa... damn good thing it didn't happen at speed.

Don't know how the f@#k it happened, but the front sprocket came off, and locked up the rear tire. I was going about 25-30mph. earlier that same ride, some fellow cornerjunkies members and I were around 3 digit speeds. Could have been much worse.
I'm open to suggestions of causes, and preventative actions.
I ordered a new retainer, and nut, along with a $1.50 shaft seal....total damage under 15.00, and some pride.

You mean, like, 30.1mph? :smilebig:

...and what Chris said - red loctite and punching the side of the nut so that folds into the indentation on the shaft; you could also safety wire it, I suppose.

Red loctite is definate. There are no splines or keyways to smash the nut into, just threads. There is a flat washer with splines that goes behind the nut, and folds over onto the flats, to keep it form turning.
Best I can figure is, it has been loose for a little while, and the splines on the washer wore away, and allowed the nut to turn. I had no loctite on it before, but there will be now.
