View Full Version : Sunday Ride - Tanger, departing 1PM

SUM650
02-09-2008, 09:10 AM
Well several mature riders have posted there distaste for the way that a lot of the past Sunday rides have been going, including myself. I think that the consensus is that the rides leave way to late, a few of the riders are in 100% race mode, careless high speed riding in town and on interstates, wheelies everywhere, etc., etc.. I am sure that I could go on and on.

This Sunday Feb. 10th 2008 lets all meet at the new Tanger Shopping outlets in North Charleston. What I am proposing is a sane ride to tone it down a bit.

I want to be clear, my intentions are not to ostracize any riders. My intentions are to shed that negative image of the old tree rides. So if you are looking to stunt, ride like a loose cannon on the main public streets / interstates, or just hang out til late in the afternoon, this ride is probably not for you.

When: Sunday Feb. 10th 2008

Where: Tanger Outlet , North Charleston- Turn by the Fire Museum and you will see a large oak tree.

Time: 1:00 PM for people on time, 12:30 for people on slo time like myself.

Who's Invited: Everyone you know! This is not a private friends only group type deal. If you want to ride safely and sanely then hookup with us.

Please make sure that your bike is gassed up and ready to go before you meet us.

I forgot to mention. Please post your ideas of things that you would like to see, or not see on this new Sunday ride. Btw this is a trial, if everyone likes it then maybe we can continue it. Comments, ideas are welcomed. I look forward to seeing you all there.

Umm, why not just keep it in the original Sunday thread (our single biggest thread, I think) and modifying the first post if need be?

I thought about that, but what about the folks that don't want to ride at sane speeds on the street, or don't want to meet at a new location, or just don't want to even be around me to start with? I am not saying that this is a permanent venture, just a trial for now. Do you guy's think that this thread should be merged with the regular Sunday Ride thread? If so I will make it happen.

I want to make sure that I am not false advertising here. This is is not a Sunday Church meeting. We are mostly sport bikers, so most of us WILL ride a speeds above the posted limits at times, some folks will even do wheelies at times. More riding and less waiting is the name of the game.

The original tree rides (didn't Randy start it?:smilebig:) happened way before Cornerjunkies and new and improved meeting spot happened right here. So, I think it deserves it's own thread. By the way, I don't think the Sear's tree meeting spot will disappear anytime soon. Two different meeting spots, two different threads. Now, if a change brings everyone to Tanger, then a merge is warranted.

different idea, different ride.. its a different thread....

sounds alot more fun... esp if we ride some thing different.

Time: 1:00 PM for people on time, 12:30 for people on slo time like myself.

.

Not that I would be riding any time soon...but have you considered meeting earlier? Before the original tree ride existed, many of us would meet in James island like around 11am, which I liked better than 1pm.

But either way, definitely roll out at the prescribed time. None of the "I need gas" or bullshitting around. If people want to BS, they can show up even earlier to perform said bullshitting.

Hammer just made an excelent point... the time should be the ROLLOUT time, not the meetup time... you might want to edit the post to be clear.

I changed the thread title a bit to hopefully make it a little clearer.

I like the idea for the ride, and I've been a proponent of something like this for at least a couple of years, so yeah, let's see where this goes.

Even though I'm working this weekend, I'll try to make this ride.

I like the idea of the new meeting spot sum650. Unfortunately I won't be able to make it out this weekend (or the next couple) due to work.

I would agree with hammer that maybe an earlier time would be good in the future but hey, let's see where this new meeting place goes. I'm jealous and will be eagerly awaiting when I can meet up with you guys for just a normal fun Sunday ride.

I would be lucky to be out of bed by 10 on a Sunday!

Today was one of the best rides that I have been on in YEARS! No nonsense, just plain old fashion riding. We actually went on a new route today. Somehow we ended up in Orangeburg. Three hrs. of riding and zero time getting wrecked bikes out of a ditch.

It sounds like a good idea starting about 10 but the more I think about it, I tend to enjoy my Saturday nights a little too much to be making it out that early.

So, how many people made it out to the new spot? I won't be able to make it next week because I'll be in Daytona for the "Great American Race" but the following Sunday count me in!

Say what????We didn't roll out till 1:20. Maybe you went to the wrong spot? Or maybe you are still on daylight savings time and was early...or late...or whatever!
There is always next week...If I get my bike back together again. I tokk it apart, again. I ment to take off the right-hand clip-on, but somehow, the whole front-end is off. The forks are leaning on the wall, the wheel and rotors are off. The rear end has no links to the shock....
Damn...will I ever be done with this monster???
If anyone else has anything they want powdercoated, let me know. I get a good deal with Mark's powdercoating...the more I bring, the cheaper it gets.

It was sheer pleasure riding with y'all today! Unfortunately, my wife didn't hear me when I told her I wouldn't be back until after 5 pm. She's really pissed! My son was obnoxious and the baby was fussy all day. I imagine that situation was like trying to put out a campfire with gasoline. I've got to treat her to something real nice or else I'll be in the doghouse a while.

Anyway, it was a good ride and I'm glad I went. Between riding this morning and with the group, I put over 300 miles on the bike today. I needed that - it did my soul good.

went riding yesterday. it was awsome. good to put some miles on the bike. Had a weird incodent... I was coming home and got to a red light by my house. this thing WILL NOT trip for a light weight bike. so after waiting a bit and then looking way both ways down the street i went. got pulled cop asked me what i was thinking and i explained that the light wont trip for sport bikes. he wrote me a warning and told me to contact the DOT. pretty cool guy could have got me for a shitload of points.
BTW last night i got a call while at outback. bike down on greenridge and rivers. I ziped over there and the guy got life flighted out. I dont believe he made it. It was a cruiser and it cought fire. The bike resembled Domino's so if ayone knows how to get ahold of him please call him. Now with that being said all cruisers look the same to me. but this one had the same saddle bags he has. so someone please contact him to make sure this isnt the case.

lookie here for the pump:

theres a couple more howtos also, but thats the basic idea.

i have to say, that was an awesome ride. the pace was dead on.. slow and respectful when others are around, and entertaining at appropriate times...
most tree rides or other crazy rides, i get that hopped up, physced up feeling...because i know im about to go out and do something stupid..
didnt get that feeling at any point in this ride instead, it was truly enjoyable. relaxing at times, and still very entertaining.

mike, im glad you didnt ride the SMR now.. it was much more entertaining to watch the FJR go around corners..
i had the perfect position too... i could hear Macs exhaust the whole time..

i have no idea where the hell we went... apparently my bank didnt either.
9:00am i get a phone call... apparently its suspicious to my bank to see a bunch of $4 - $8 charges on my debit card, in various areas around the state. i had to explain to them that it was a motorcycle ride, and my bike only holds $8 in gas.. LOL.
i filled it two more times after the ride lastnight.. went 270miles yesterday.. also, i now know my bike can only hold 2.6gal of gas.. i thought it fit three... 2.6 from sputtering empty to the bottom of the fill lip.

i hope every ride from now on can be like that one... absolutely great.

from what im overhearing here and there, i think theres TWO rides out of Tanger...

keeping this one seperate should be pretty simple.. just play it off as 'the old mans ride'.... keep talking about slow speeds, and responsible riding... and most of the younger crowd will goto one of the other rides. and the ones that dont, after hearing that, are probably ones we want to stay anyway.... we shouldnt be afraid to say 'HEY, chill out.' or something of that nature to someone on this ride.
just my opinion of course... as the youngest one there yesterday.. (and also the only one on a bike less then a liter.... friggin old guys and their big bikes... LOL  )

speaking of church rides, 7 years ago i went on a tree ride with a road that had a church on it.... you come around a corner, and are pointed at the church.. then its a uphill right turn followed by a sudden sharp 90* left.(and i think it was barry who gave the safety talk at the start of the road)
people were reffering to it as church road or something like that.
anyone know where the hell that road is? its been about 7 years and i still havent found it. lol.

Travis you are so right. We all will need to step up and say something when the hell raisers get out of hand. Someone must step up and tell the new folks that join, this isn't a typical Sunday mall race day.

Am I a saint? Absolutely not! I still get hairs up my butt to do stupid shit. I now try to focus more on the safety of others besides myself. Experience has taught me that the public roads are not my private race track / stunt grounds. I hope new riders will live to discover this much sooner than I have.

Motorcyclist dies of head, chest injuries
Staff report

Yea I think that most cruiser riders will have a hard time keeping up with a bunch of sportbikes even at a minimal leisurely pace. Thats why I don't ride my warrior to often with the group. Going 90 on a sportbike is very mild. On a cruiser your doing everything you can to hold on while fighting the wind. Plus on a cruiser most riders slow down for a turn, while us sportbike riders speed up. Just to different types of riding all together.

Not as often as she would like. Most of her rides are across town. We have two different styles when it comes to riding. She rides into town, I ride to get away from town.

I bought it for her last autumn, from our old neighbor. She's probably put about 300 miles on it since we got it for her. I put that many miles on the Rex last weekend, between riding that morning and meeting up with y'all for the group ride.

We have gone on one (1) long ride together since she bought it, but with kids and all, it's kinda tough for us to have a full day together. So, we tag off. In fact, she's out with her girlfriends tonight, after being with a cranky baby all day.

So Barry, to answer your question, she does not ride it often.

i got to enjoy one of these "church rides." got to meet a couple new faces/old screen names. had a relaxing little ride down chisolm, brownswood, then river rd. hop skip and a jump to the toogoo-don't, 180' then it was a quick trip home. out by 1 home by 3.30. perfect, had to get horses in by 4.30, 5 ish. may be able to do it next week.

Was a very nice ride... Got to meet all new faces and take a trip down some roads I didn't even know existed. Hopefully I will be able to make it back out next Sunday... I'll have to check with the boss.

I wish I could make it this Sunday but I think the wife wants to spend time together, so we will probably just be out cruising around. I would bring her out but she wouldn't approve of some of the speed bursts. Oh well, maybe next Sunday.
