Just curious, if you clean your air filter, How Do You Do It? I thought about soaking it in some gas and blowing it out but not sure if this is a good idea or not. Thoughts? Opinions? Smartass comments?
Clean out your K&N with soapy detergent. Just dish soap or their recomended cleaner. You should check it about every 4,000 miles or so. Cleaning it regularly will help performance. It most cases it ends up saturated with fuel or in some cases oil from crank case breather when operating at high prm for sustained periods. Late nights I-26 or sunday rides.
It's best if you let it air dry and not blow compressed air through it. Some of the BMC style filters have issues with material bunching up and not working properly after hitting it with compressed air.
In a cross country trip in big diesel you can lose 2 miles to the gallon with dirty air filter. Every drop counts when your paying close to $4.00 a gallon.
We used to keep two in the truck to swap out during long hauls.
After filter dry's out you can use aerosol spray to oil it up again or in most cases with pods, I'll soak them in a plastic bag with oil in it to evenly coat the entire filter.
Too much oil and the bike will run rich, not enough and it goes lean.
Use common sense.
I would suggest buying 2 filters so if you are trying to do a trip or last minute tune up it's that much easier than waiting out drying period rather than rushing it.
