As we all know The Tree is Charlestons Sunday ride. I am starting this topic in hopes everyone will read it and we can keep it safe. As you all know there have been some accidents on these rides. Most if not all could have been avoided. I know that everyone makes mistakes myself included. So i am hoping that everyone that rides at the tree will read this and post their concerns or whatever you may feel like posting good or bad.
1. pay attention and ride your own pace
2.please pass only on the left and when you have the space to do so
3.while on the interstate or any 4 or more lane lets try tou use a single
lane no need to hinder traffic
4. lets not slow down or stop in the middle of the road for no reason
if we need to slow down or stop pull to the RIGHT clear of everyone coming from behind
if anyone else has some concerns or suggestions please post them and let's enjoy our sunday rides
Many of us quit going altogether because of the accidents, the careless riding, and some of the riders' apparent need to show everyone just how much "better" they are.
After two Sundays in a row, where 20-30 minutes of riding was followed by two hours of waiting in the hot sun for someone to get picked up by an ambulance, and their bike to be thrown on the back of a truck, I had had enough.
How are things now? What's the crowd like? Are the rides worth attending?

they have been okay lately we have slowed things down a little to prevent some accidents also when there are newbies we let them know their own pace it seems to workout ok the only bad accident lately was in January which involved a guy that none of us knew who happened to live where we ended up out there at timberland and he never stopped to see what the deal was but for the most part it has been pretty good
You know safety is my biggest concern of riding with a big group of new people of all different backgrounds and riding styles. In my opinion, I LOVE to ride in big groups of bike riders, but I don't like riding with people that make me nervous. The only people who make me nervous are ones I haven't ridden with before if they start showing signs they that they shouldn't be on a bike. You can usually pick these guys out on the first corner in a ride. I like riding with people I can learn from and who don't try to "ride to impress." That crap needs to go to the track. My wife has been riding for about a year and a half on a sportbike, and honestly, I wouldn't risk having her out there with some of the people who show up at the tree. Most everyone who shows up at the tree is responsible and safe and knows how to ride with groups. But for me, it's those onsies and twosies that spook me.
I think there should be different advertised times for riders who meet at the Tree. Don't quote me on this suggestion, but this only a hypothetical suggestion: Sundays @ the Tree 1PM for the regulars or experienced aquaintences. The other times 2 or 3PM for all of those younger riding guys whose been riding for 2 weeks and just got a brand new GSXR1000 and wants to get with a group to show off.
That's just my 2 cents. Hope to score a fun safe ride this weekend!!

i have brought that idea up and it was pretty much shot down because if we did so then we would be ostracizing the newbies which i felt was understandable especially considering that we were all newbies at one point i feel that as long as EVERYONE understands that we are ther to have fun not win the daytona 200 and that everyone one should ride at their skill level instead of trying to be the leader of the pack then it should be a good safe ride :wtg: :wtg:
Point taken. I concur with you that we were all newbies at once. But as a newby, when I started riding with the elders, what they said went!! And I knew it was for my own good. As long as everyone respects each other and especially their own riding capabilities, I have no problem. I hate people getting hurt, and I sure in the hell don't want to lose any more friends.

i agree somaybe we should be alittle more stern hell i would rather help someone avoid an accident than worry about pissing someone off i enjoy riding with a good size group as long as everyone plays it safe that is why i invite people to the tree and be role models or whatever you would like to call it so that the newbies and the oldies for that matter can have a good safe enjoyable ride also maybe we should do two rides maybe a saturday and sunday so that we can get more people to ride and help all of us to better our skills by taking the advice of the more experienced riders

Who is this asshole that wants to set rules for the tree ride. I like to give him a hard time cause he rides a suckuki. If evryone would pay more attention to what is going on around them like scanning ahead for something in the road or someones brake lights. Signaling to slow down or turn and looking before doing U turns to make sure everyone knows what you are doing. I think we can have good safe rides at a brisk pace without too many incidents. Set ground rules for any new riders and they either agree or leave.

whats up Mr.R1 that is SUZUKI; japanese translation See Who's King, if rules are what it takes to keep us up on two then i am all for it as for me being an asshole damn right i am oh and by the way anytime you see a Suzuki you should do this to show your respect sucker :hail: LOL oh and if that R1 was a Gixxer1000 it would be sold LOL but anyway Papa crash i will see you Sunday at the tree oh and wax that bike and maybe your helmet so that you can gain a 1/2mph you will need all the help you can get Mr.Malassas oh by the way for all that read this Mr. Crash is selling his R1

Boy do I agree with you 100%. I remember not to long ago when I was a bright eyed and bushy tail newbie as well. I am glad that some of the vet riders didn't (obkastribe) me! You see I can't spell those big high polluting words like Chris. Anyway, I have seen some riders in the past say, well I've been on the track, or I race now, so I'm not going to ride on the street now. Well I think that would be like Jeff Gordon saying, since I race cars now, I'm not going to risk driving on the street anymore. I believe that I have an obligation as a veteran sport bike enthusiast, to pass on some of the knowledge and info to help make sport biking as safe as I can for newbie riders. I remember when people like myself, Kenny, Brad, and Crash were some of the most dangerous newbie riders on the streets. You can’t hardly say that now. These guys are now some of the best veteran riders in the area. Again, I feel that us riders with a little more experience should be trying to help instead of turning there backs.
Now with that being said, what can we all do to make our Sunday rides safer, and more enjoyable? I'll add a few things on to what Chris has already said.
1. pay attention and ride your own pace
5. let's meet at 1:00 gased up and ready to leave at 1:30. If you must eat, sleep, etc. do it before 1:30.
6. Lets start haveing a short talk before we ride. I mean just remind everyone of the simple rules that Chris has stated.
7. No helmet, no riding with the group. This is for there sake. If someone shows up to ride, we must let them know that as a group, we all where helmets. Let's try to do it in a way that you aren't being a a$$hole. Ask them to please meet up with us on next Sunday. Explain how rock are thrown from tires at over a hundred mph.
8. No wild speeding and stunting on the interstate while with the group.

burns come on and ride man you know i have been trying to get you to come out for some time and smitty your invited as well and barry is right we need to be gased up by 1:00 and ready to go by 1:30 and have the talk to let people know that we are there to have fun and play it safe and Helmets should be a MUST we all know people that are living proof that they work and if one of those rocks hit someone in the eye then they are F@%#^& as well as anyone riding close to them .
if anyone wants to ride like a fool and put people in danger they can always meet up on Saturday because i don't want anyone else to go through what we and DJ have gone through
By the way I want to throw some kind of party for DJ let me know if you have any ideas later guys
Looks like tomorrow will be the day to be there... 1PM... my first time at the tree in about 1.5 years. Too bad DK won't be able to make it. Apparently he's "down with the sickness", fever and all...

Shane's right. We all don't want to wait around for you to go and pickup your girlfriends helmet over her boyfriends house type crap. Another thing, please, please, please, service your bike on a regular basis. Things like cleaning the chain every once in a while, checking the tires for wear, tighting loose nuts and bolts, this type of thing. It sounds minor, but you wouldn't believe how many people loose things like exhaust canisters while riding. Mike K. sorry I didn't get a chance to catch up with you on Sunday. Are you still planning to go to the gap?
I showed up with Kat at 1:15... then after waiting until 2:10, we simply ran out of time to go for the full ride, and had to split. Hopefully next time it'll start off sooner, but baking in the heat (that'll just get worse as summer approaches) for 55 minutes wasn't thrilling...
Still planning to make it to the Gap, hellz yeah!
On another note, thanks for plugging the site ya'll. It occurred to me too late, but I'll get some business cards made up for the site, and give them out next time (or whenever the cards come back from the printer).
Just placed an order for the cards. They'll look like this:

Hey guys it's Dave McFarlane, just heard about this site from Shane. This server is as slow as everyone at the tree, what the hell??!! Just kidding DK, I'm sure you'll upgrade your Commodore 64 soon as you can! But really, I've really missed a few of you guys, except Mac....what a prick!
Anyway, I just sold my RC last month and I'm buying a new 1000RR as soon as it comes in. June 1st they say. Looking forward to riding again since it's been so long. I've actually had my RC for 5 years but in the past 2 years I think I only put on about 500 miles, but a hundred of that was passing Barry at Roebling over and over and over!!
With all these screen names I have no idea who's who. I saw Barry, Derek, Mac and Shane. I'm sure Charles is on here somewhere. Anyone else? If we haven't met, then Hello! I'll see you guys soon....maybe.

Hey Dave this is Barry. Glad to see you maybe joining the biking world again. Sorry to see it's on a honda though. After seeing suzuki totally dominate at Barber today, how could anyone go out and buy a substandard cbr 1000? You should retrace your past. The 05 750 is really a monster of a bike. Of course it eats up the cbr 1000. Maybe you can look to joining us to deals gap for trip #2. We went last week and everyone had a blast. We had a total of 22 people to go. By the way, congrads on you wedding. Where are you stationed now?
I'm still here Barry (8 years now); I just haven't been able to leave the house since I got married. Really though, I haven't ridden since Roebling last May, I kind of got tired of the 15 minute trip to a secluded highway and watch stunts for 2 hours. There was no riding, except point A to point B, on Sunday rides. Ty is buying a bike soon also but he hasn't decided between the Yamaha and Suzuki. So a few of us should be back to local riding.
The Suzuki liter bike hp is incredible but I can't get past how ugly it is. It looks great in race trim but in street skins the thing is hideous. Did you buy the 750?
If I can get 160hp out the CBR with full sys and PCIII, I'll be happy. I'm getting the poser Repsol edition. You know me!
SUM650
04-25-2005, 08:57 AM
Hey, if I had a z06 I probably wouldn't ride that much either. The stunting thing has kind of died down. The last time we did that was probably the end of last year. If you can't do a handstand and back flip while doing a wheelie, who wants to see it. Anyway the Sunday rides have changed quite a bit from the past. Us more experienced riders have taken a role to make our rides safer. We are doing things like, having guidelines or rules when riding with the group. We are also trying to do more organized rides as a group such as the deals gap trip, Savannah ride, drag strip night, and the soon to be scheduled Jennings track day.
No I haven't bought the 750. Alan Connor bought one though. I have ridden it a couple of times, and all I can say is DAMN! My brother has a 04 cbr 1000. I have ridden it a few times as well. He installed a pc3 and full akro system on it and it runs pretty good. He got 163 on the dyno. As you know, Kenny and Matt are racing the cbr1000's. I know that both of those bikes are making over 165 to the rear.

I know this isn't the place to be posting things for sell, but this seems to be the forum that gets read the most. I have a buddy with a red, white, and black '04 R6 that he is trying to sell. Its got a high mount micron exhaust(slipon),k&n filter, carbon fiber levers, second skin seats, and a few other accessories. It's got some scratches on the left side of the front wheel where it was ran up on a curb. He also has all the factory parts. It has 4,025 miles on it. He is asking $6500 obo. So if you are interested or know someone who is interested you can give him a call at 843-367-8718 his name is Rob.

Hey Ken, I'm sure this will get moved to the for sale section. I wish your buddy the best of luck with selling his bike. The only thing that I can say is that the price seems a little steep to me. It's great that he has all of this aftermarket stuff, however this adds absoutly no resale value to the bike what so ever. I'd be willing to bet that the dealer offered to give him $4,500 for it. A realistic value to me would be around $5,500 to $6,000 at best. Has he considered listing it in the Cycle Trader?
KennyR1
04-25-2005, 03:38 PM
I told him that price was steep but he said that he wants to get as much as he can so thats what he wanted to put on it. I'm not sure if he is gonna put it in the cycle trader or not, he just finally decided today that he was gonna sell it. Will there be some people at the tree this weekend, or is everybody going to the track?

Hey Charles, how's things going? Hopefully all you guys still ride on the street nowadays, at least a little bit. I hated to see the RC go but I really thought I was done riding...that's until I had no motorcycle in the garage! It's such a depressing feeling with all the bike stuff lying around and not having a bike. You know, the posters, pictures, helmets, riding jackets in every closet, at least 2 dozen MotoGP models but once you go to the garage no bike. Kind of sucked. Plus, everyone buying these new bikes didn't help either. Anyway, I'll see you guys soon enough.

Fun ride sunday, until I dumped it on 17... i'll be there next sunday regardless. thanks for the help. I was pissed off and I didn't have my insurance card or registration so I was trying to hurry. Bike's alright, would only have suffered a couple of scratches and need a new can until i dumped it on that gravel/dirt road. Yea, your right. As I'm LoL. But hey, a win is a win. I am itching to be in Jasons 600 amature class. I would love the competion. I dont think there is going to be that much competition in the LW classes. That doesn't mean that I am going to win every race, but I dont expect to lose much either. I will be definitely racing my 636 next year, and who knows I may race the SV as well. This way, if I crash one bike I can still race something until the other one is fixed. Isn't that just sick! Kenny and Charles, thanks for getting me hooked on racing. It's worse than drugs. I guess I'll get my next fix on June 11th at Roebling. I'll see you other addicts there.
