Wiring schematic is OK. But I really need a running machine to swap out a few parts to test.

Hey it's cheating, but we have nothing to test with. Machine runs and has no shorts. Just seems to not fuel properly and of course as per service manual everything for fuel pump circuit checks out fine. Jumped out relay and still not right. Switches are all functional, may have burnt cdi unit.

Carbs cleaned, sync, float level fine and TPS checks out fine.

Gremlins................

They do exist.

This is my bike that Derek is working on. This thing has quite a story for anyone to understand its ways...I bought it really cheap from a guy who "had the intent on racing it, but never did"...I say that in quotes because this is what I was told...true, I do not know. Anyhow, the frame/engine/forks/wheels were perfect when I bought it...As for the rest of it, not so great. I put everything from stock plastics on it to a new tail frame. Well, a long story long, I put Lucas brand fuel additive in the tank (dont ask why...I was tired and half drunk) and ever since it has ran like crap. The bike ran/drove perfect prior to doing this and now...I am lucky to get it to go over 35mph. I can accelerate like a bat out of hell, but the second I try to maintain a constant speed it will damn near die. If I hold it at wide open throttle in third I can maintain about 35-40mph, and if it starts SLOWLY accelarating beyond that, and I slowly roll out the throttle, it will begin to accelerate more...Sometimes all the way to 70 before it starts bucking the hell out of me as I ride...Because it ran great prior to the fuel additive, I associated the two together and figured I gummed up the carbs...Well after A LOT of Dereks hard work and time, he found that not to be the case. If anyone has any thoughts on whats up or have possibly had a similar problem, please let Derek or I know. Thanks for your time.

Lucas makes a great product. But what might have happened...It softened or hardened any rubber it came in contact with IE diaphragms. If so mixtures are wacko. Just a thought.

Its definatley a good thought, and one that Derek has already covered. He completely went through the carbs, and we swapped out the fuel pump. He eliminated any possibilty of this being the issue. Any other thoughts?!?! Thanks for your previous reply, by the way. :)

Have ya happen to check exhaust temps after a ride. Dead cylinder? Bad or fouled spark plug? Int. or Exh. valve sticking? I'll keep throwing ideas out until we get ya riding.:yeah:

Prior to bringing the bike to Derek, I put brand new plugs in it (NGK) and a new fuel filter in it. Sticky valve was what I was leaning towards, but Derek was more on the electrical path. CDI definately makes sense at this point...If you or ANYONE has a 99-2000 R6 CDI that would be willing to let Derek borrow to test mine, would be greatly appreciated. Just to clarify, my bike is a 2002, but APPARENTLY has 99-00 wiring on it....? WTF, right?! Thanks again for your replies.

It's a real anomaly.

TPS check
Fuel check
Ignition signal 10mm gap bright check
Minimal leak down
Clean, sync carbs, inspect diaphragms, needle seats, float height
Jump out fuel pump relay
Test all fault switches
Test and replace fuel pump (out of range)
Tank and petcock are clear moving plenty of fuel
Tank is vented properly

SO IT's BORROW A KNOWN RUNNING MACHINE TO SWAP OUT CDI UNIT, PICK UP SENSOR or RELAY TO ENSURE NOTHING HAS BEEN OVERLOOKED.

A bit of an off-the-wall idea: there are several similar-year R6's for sale on craigslist. Maybe one of the sellers would be willing to loan out a CDI in their own driveway

I think I might be better off just using some sky miles and flying over one of their engineers to solder the thing together right.

Still need 99-01 CDI unit for R-6 .

Anyone ? :wall:

Bought CDI...No joy...Bought CDI off of egay...Maybe it was junk too...Seems to be a problem...Getting a different CDI, and DK's wisdom...Hopefully I will ride this year...I deploy in a month :crying:

Yes, the part numbers were 100% identical...and just to clarify, it was NOT a California CDI, and my bike is NOT a CA model...

I still believe the carbs man....................especially since it was right after you added an additive.............some of those things just don't do well..........and there are ports that dk nor a majician can get to and with it stumbling at cruising speeds and not wide open or without load

THANK YOU! I agree with you 100%, but I am not about to post anything on here stating that I disagree with the man thats working on my bike....Especially on his website... But Now I have so, whatever. I brought my bike to him telling him what I did and that I wanted the carbs completely rebuilt and cleaned. After he did that and it did not fix the problem, he started blaming the electrical system...I think thats the wrong direction, but I continue to trust him.................................

Lets say that your theory is correct...What do I need to do? Is it something I could do myself? Should I get brand new carbs? Used ones off of e-gay? I want my bike running soon, and it continues to just sit at the shop................:crying:

Yeah, I had thoughts on that too...Just getting new everything. But there is no point to that (in my mind). Might as well just dump this POS off a cliff and get a whole new bike. Doesnt seem like it can be fixed. I deploy in exactly a month. If its not fixed in about a week...well consider it for sale. Anyone who wants a bike that cant be fixed, and will cost a lot of money trying can PM or e-mail me.

BIKE IS FIXED!

Here is some advice to ya'll...

If you have two carbs running pig rich, and two running leaner than hell, and jets that are too big....well, you get a crappy running bike...

When you sync them all up and jet it right...well...it runs right!

You told me so. I thought I told me so too...but someone else told me differently....

Shows how gullible I can be....

Got any recommendations on a good jet kit...Akrapovic exhaust and soon to add a K&N filter...Other than that shes stock...
