View Full Version : Nicky, being honest.

Nicky Hayden admitted he is going through a difficult time as he continues to struggle to adapt to the new MotoGP bikes.

The American clinched the MotoGP title in 2006 but finished down in eighth place in 2007 after just three podium finishes and no race wins.

After the first five races of the current season, he lies in seventh position, 57 points behind Repsol Honda (http://www.1000rr.net/forums/showthread.php?t=49085#) teammate.

Hayden says he is not making excuses for his form and admits he has just been unable to adapt his style to the less powerful bikes used now.

"I'm not looking for excuses, the problem is mine: I haven't yet been able to adapt my riding style to the 800cc. I'm not happy, it's a tough period for me," Hayden was quoted as saying by Motosprint magazine.

"At the end of last year I thought I had solved my problems, but I was wrong. In the second half of last season my results weren't very good, but it was also down to some bad luck. I had managed to use the bike (http://www.1000rr.net/forums/showthread.php?t=49085#) in the best way.

"This Honda doesn't have enough power for my riding style: I come from dirt tracks, I need to make the bike skid by using the throttle. To do that you need a lot of horsepower and great acceleration (http://www.1000rr.net/forums/showthread.php?t=49085#).

"The decrease in power and the different power output have put me in great difficulty."

Hayden, who last won a race in the 2006 US Grand Prix, reckons he is struggling because of his lack of experience in lesser categories.

"Pedrosa comes from the 125cc and 250cc classes, so he's used to look for linearity in the trajectory and he knows how to keep a higher speed through corners," he added. "So his riding style is very much suited to the 800cc.

"I don't ride that way, for me you need to brake (http://www.1000rr.net/forums/showthread.php?t=49085#) hard and then make the bike turn with the gas, by skidding, in order to get good turn exit speed under acceleration.

"I need engines with a lot of power and the new (pneumatic valves) one should have enough. But I agree with the HRC engineers, who say we should wait a bit longer: we at the factory team will get this bike only once it goes really well and it's reliable."

I hope he is on a Duc next year.

Man, I can't spell worth a crap lately, jeez! What's up with not being able to edit some posts?

Anyway, at one time Hayden talked HRC into, either, turning his traction control off or tone it way down, I can't remember, exactly. Either way, the bike is too small and too little power for his liking.

Ahhh whatever... I think he just is not up to par with Moto GP riders. Maybe he should have just stayed in the AMA or went to WSB:shrug:

Its no secret that im not a fan of his but oh well sounds like neither is HRC:whistle::whistle::whistle::whistle:

(Takes rag out of mouth and states)

The MOTO GP paddock requires development skills I feel that Nicky never acquired. Case in point an old friend that did suspension work for him back in the day. Even at the level he was at during that time should have filled his mental tuning tally. The guy is an incredible rider, more than that he is a racer. He doesn't come from the proper background to lend himself to making use of the adjustments he has available to him. If it were MOTO IROC series than he'd be right up there with the best almost any day. It happens to be MOTO GP and you had better have a complete comprehension of how machines work.

Not so sure he does. His teammate even called him out on it.
Even if you have complete comprehension that is not to say you acquire the parts you want or wish to try at some point. Making the most out of what you have is all part of this game.

Well heres to seeing him in WSB, probably killing it again.

I hate the fact that many consider going to WSBK a step down. I for one would love to see Nicky and Edwards back on Superbikes. Now they just need to keep Spies off the Suzuki in MotoGP.

Well, He already has a championship in Moto gp, AMA, go to WSB, win that. Then he will be able to say he has won just about everything. Or did he already win that too?

If it were MOTO IROC series

i would watch this.... 10 or 15 champion riders of diffrent backgrounds on identical machines... yea.:yeah:

Hayden's Moto GP Championship win was a crock. It was a stunt to draw Americans into watching Moto GP racing. Rossi should have won that Championship.

"Sorry don't mean to offend the following the crowd Hayden fans" yea right:lol::lol::lol::lol:
