I have been asked by Southern Discomfort fight gear to assist in raising participation in a upcoming event. they are sponsoring a bike show at the ladson fairgrounds. They have paid for the location and have rounded up some good sponcers. Kawi/sazuk/yami/honda of orangeburg are coming down and are bringing a kws race bike. there are also some others that i am waiting to get the list of. but anyway, for anyone wanting something big to happen in Charleston The guys with this company have stated that if they just break even then they will host it every year. They don't care if it is "Harley " oriented or Sport bike oriented. So here's our chance. I have put the word out there as much as i can. I have handed out more than 5k fliers and text the shit out of everyone. We all know the Heritage rally was kinda lame so lets do this our way now. I need all the bikes I can get there to help out. to break even we need 350 bikes. We have already been on 98x 2 times and have a week of commercials coming. I hope i can get you guys to gear up and bring some of your friends out.

it's been posted for a while plus on the radio....just mainly in the cruiser forums....we've had flyers up at wings for at least 3 weeks....it's the finals for the bikini contest they've been running at pickled parrot......

burt who runs "southern discomfort" is a really good guy trying to get his concept off the ground......

my little plug

before the show we are having a bikini bike and car wash at wings etc on saturday then after the show numb909 is playing at 10pm(no cover)

800lbs!!!!!
a bike should never weigh that much...it should be as light as possible, with as much power as possible, and giant brakes that can flip you over the handlebars:eek:

Or be happy with what you have, and ride the thing like you stole it. I know you like your bike Donnie. Nothing wrong at all with that...except that I can't put it into my garage to ride anytime!
I'll let you take the 14 out sometime. It's a blast:D

...and from what I understand that's per bike, not per person, so two up, it's still $15/$10.

It looks like Randys did stock. Same blue body, but no cool lock-up clutch, no turbo, no chrome extended swingarm, no chrome testarossa vents....just stock.

Yep, I'm in Ohio at General Dynamics, checking out the M1 Abrams battle tank, and the Force Protection Cougar.
I may be flying back on Wednesday, but Thursday will definately be home. BTW, your project is done. If you need it, stop by and pick it up. It's in my toy-box.(The garage)

Dont bother going to this shit saturday. I got a call saying it has been called off. They are gona try and move it to the Pickled parrot..but whatever if you cant get you ducks in a row and get your ins then change of location with 4 days to go then Im just gona go to the beach instead.

Mike
06-03-2008, 05:17 PM
That sounds pretty cool. I trained in the Army on the M1 and M1A1, troubleshooting its miles of wiring, replacing the engine, etc.

I'll probably just wait. I'm trying to decide if I should just rustoleum it or have it powdercoated. Also, lemme know what I owe you and/or if you'd like to trade services.

update
i tell you guys the following becuse i think you deserve to know what is going on.
Yesterday morning there was a meeting between the fairgrounds , burt and his lawyers. the fairgrounds agreed to have the event and burt just needed to go pick up the event insurance paperwork. so they broke the meting and burt went to go get the documents. {so it was on} this is when i told everyone that it was back on. Well, at the afternoon meeting the fairgrounds still "wanted " to host it..... kinda. we were allowed to have it there and we have the paperwork yada yada.... and so did the fairgrounds. apparently as burt was getting all his ducks in a row the fairgrounds decided to write a freaking rule book. ATHICK ASS RULEBOOK!!!!!!! some were understandable some were just freaking retarted. EX: no reving the motors because it would disturb the peace....but there was a concert there not even a month ago... So it was then appaent what was going on.
The fairgrounds got written a bad check for the last weekend of the heritage bike deal. Myrtal beach is bitching about the last bike week there. the fairgrounds "Dont want no biker trouble" I spoke with burt over the phone and told him it was clear they wee not going to let this happen unless we had sherman tanks to maintain the peace. His lawyers spoke with the fairgrounds prick and had a agreement made that we could post signs out front relocating the event down the street. Suprise suprise! they agreed to moving the event and NOW are helpfull. So the event has been moved to the pickled parrot off of rivers ave. {right by mikes new crib}
Im not 100 percent sure what is going on with the managment of the fairgrounds and I do appologize for all of the confusion.
Any questions about the event please feel free to ask.
OH on a side note. now that there is no fairgrounds to pay for there is no cover charge either!

Mike how much do you make a hour?

eschmunk
06-05-2008, 09:31 AM
I know of a couple people who live right in this area so I am hoping they all attend. I live in Hollow Oaks so it is across the street basically. I can't see why I can't show up and walk around a bit. Of course I don't get back from San Diego until late tomorrow.

Mike how much do you make a hour?

A lot less than you, and it has nothing whatsoever to do with you advertising an event, trying to draw a crowd, without disclosing that you stand to make money / more money the more people show up... not to mention that I asked IF you are getting paid, not how much

Don't get me wrong, I do and always have appreciated the effort you've put in many times into the Charleston bike scene, I just think in all fairness, you should be clear about being a paid promoter, and not just a big bike fan that likes to help out purely out of the kindness of his heart.

Jason advertises his stuff here for the Honda shop, as does DK for his shop, as can you for your business, and we have a thread where everyone can advertise their businesses. There's nothing wrong with it because it's crystal clear what the underlying purpose is. When you say "there's the coolest thing happening at the fairgrounds this weekend, so come on down and join in the fun" you're not being entirely clear, and that's all I'm asking of you.

Also, don't think I'm picking on you - many were unpleasantly surprised when we found out that Chad was making money on the Firefighter ride... and it wasn't that he was, because the effort he put in should've been compensated somehow, it's that it wasn't known until practically after the event that he was paying himself (which by itself is another can of worms).

Wana see my paper work were it show's all the cost of that event? Would you like too see how much I was making at my job before I took two weeks off to host this event then afterwards was told I no longer had a job? I put a few grand out of my own pocket into that event and your damn right I got it back. Then I got stuck with a $1087 fine cause some female memebers on this site wanted to do it in the org location even though we were asked to do other wise. Who took off work some 8 times to go to court for that?? Me that comes out too over $2000 lost in money from missing work alone. So yea let me go dip into my millions I made:rolleyes:

Well mike you make some valid points. As far as I know jason, dk, chris, or anyone has been asked if there making money at this. The only 2 are me and chad. Yes chad made a mistake, but the mistake was discussing it at all. I will not make this mistake. How I pay/dont pay my morgage is no ones buisness but mine and my bill collectors.
On another note there's a bike event on the 7th and I would love to see everyone there. I hope my wallet isn't your deciding factor if your going to come see orangburg sazuki/ kws race bikes. My lsr bike will be there also! So get off the couch and ride them garage queens!

Do you know how much more shit Chad would've caught if he hadn't discussed it, and it (inevitably) came out?

You have your business, very cool, and it appears that you are trying to be a paid event promoter, which is also pretty cool. Just say so, it ain't that hard

At least in my case, whether you make money on something or not has no bearing on whether or not I decide to support it. If you come out and say that you're going to make a gazillion dollars from this, I say more power to ya :yeah:

...having said that, I probably won't make Saturday's event because I'll be doing two shoots right after Wings, one at 3 or so, and another at 7 or so

And last but not least, who expected to see Chad defending Randy so vehemently  Holy shit! I have the power to create impossible unions! :lmao:

Chad
06-05-2008, 02:03 PM
Why should I have to explain that? It was pretty clear. ALL PROCEEDS GOT TO THE FAMILYS FUND. Gee thats pretty clear to me. That means all money left over after we pay for everything goes too the familys. The funniest thing is some people on here got all pissed cause I paid my self back hell I even offered to pay the people that were helping me. But I had a firefighter walk up too me and ask. "Why don't you keep half for yourself?? The familys are getting enough you should get paid for helping them out just a little."

What I should have done is just that. Paid Katt and everyone eles that helped kept $10,000 for my self and gave an undisclosed amount to the familys fund. Shit thats what everyone though anyways might as well of done it:shrug:

Im just glad I could finally go buy that MV I wanted with the millions I made:rolleyes:

Why? cause its shit that people will only show up if the guy telling them about it is not making money. So don't buy anything you see Hayden talking about cause he gets paid to say Honda's number one. Don't buy anything thats on the side of a Nascar either...cause the guys talking about the products are getting paid.

here is my 2 cents not that it matters..........................................

1. If you are promoting an event to make money then fine so be it if you make a million bucks then that is fine and dandy

2. If you are going to do a charity event then it should be charity not an income producing event by any means. Meaning all funds go directly to the charity. And next it shouldn't cost a thing to promote a charity event because..............

A. All time should be volunteered

B. If you are going to spend money on the event the government will pay you back i.e. tax deductable but only if you haven't paid yourself back

next for an event like a memorial ride for the fire fighters I am sure that it would not cost much to promote if you go to the right people considering most radio stations promote non-profit fundraisers for free but anyways

like I said if someone is doing an event to make money then more power to the but if they say they want to promote a benefit event for something and plan to make money then I would much rather not attend and just give my 10 bucks or whatever to the actual person the charity is for

mccutch2u

This kind of thinking is why so many people don't contribute.............

just like the chuch of Jesus Christ for Latterday saints or whatever it was that use to plaster adds allover tv looking for donations and now they have a limestone palace that they molest children, marry off under age women and brainwash children and so on in

Fact: many of us donated dozens of hours of our time, with no pay, to help you make this happen.

Opinion: without us, it either wouldn't have happened at all, or it would've been a much less successful event.

Quit whining and move on already.

that was your decision to do that and put all of that time in and like Mike said alot of people put time in but they didn't try to get reimbursed also I chose not to do those things because I don;t have the time for that kind of stuff

all I am saying is Charity is just that.............charity, any money or time spent on charity would be a donation otherwise it is no longer charity

I have been wantin gto move on fo rth epast year. But every time an event comes up were someone might be getting paid some asshole brings up the fire fighters ride and how Chad got paid back. Cause he was supposed to donate all his tim ean dmoney and not get repaid and everyone eles was just supposed to donate $10.

There was only one other person that donated any were near a dozen hours. Everyone eles donated the day of. So don't give me that shit.

But just so this does not happen again. Any ride I work with or put together I will be getting paid. So now you guys know this and can't bitch about it a year later.

That sucks you lost your job, this is actualy the first time I have ever heard you talk about that. Thats pretty stand up. I personaly dont care if you paid your self back or made money of that ride. You put something together that made money for the families that would not have been there if YOU didn't put it on for them. Sorry about your job.

B. If you are going to spend money on the event the government will pay you back i.e. tax deductable but only if you haven't paid yourself back

That is incorrect. For every $10 of tax deductible money you spend, you get to pay $1 to $3 less in taxes. So you are still out of pocket $7 to $9 after "tax savings".

I personally put in around a dozen hours, and it was several times less than what several other people have put in. What are you gonna say a few months or years from now, that it was all you?

That much is clear, but my point is that it should've been clear from the get go. When we raise $12/13K, and the charity mysteriously gets $8K...

I went to the thing at the Pickled Parrot, unless I was missing something i thought it quite blew. Except for the part where some chick shook her boobs at me.

Yeah, I thought the same. I drove by the front & saw
a parking lot full of cars & thought the show was a no go.
I guess I just prefer to ride versus hang out. :crap:

They do have a parking lot around back, I'm sure that's where most of the bikes would have been. Oh well.

I had a good time at the show seen 4 or 5 big wheel bikes there. There were some nice custome sportbikes within the mix as well

I agree totally. I enjoyed hangin' with my boyz there in the 100 degree heat. I enjoyed the boobie shot too...Thanks Cindy! Now, as for the bike show. They are all becoming bullshit. When a stock cbr 929rr with a couple polished items gets 1st instaed of last compared to 3 other bikes that were far superior...I gotta call bullshit. Hell one of the bikes in the sportbike division arrived late...after the bikes were judged I believe. They took his money anyway, and he did not place in the top 3. He should have easlily had 1st or 2nd place. Funny how the guy who won first in sportbikes was rumored to be a judge. BULLSHIT!!! I don't have the best bike out there, but it does draw a crowd. But for 3 decent bikes to be overlooked for a basicly stock bike, that came in the back of a truck no less, I say bullshit.
There I feel better now. I still want that KWS bike!

Who won the bikini contest? I stayed long enough to see the contestants, but did not stay for the contest. Was it the thin blonde from Summerville?

i dont remember.. i wasnt looking at her hair.

the girl that got "second" actually had 2 points over the girl that got "first"... and the girl that got first is friends with the judges.. go figure.

It was $5000 to the winner. It would be easy for a judge to decide on a certain one for a $500 cut...maybe less.
