View Full Version : WANTED: an assistant or two at a model shoot this Sunday

Mike

Yep, just what the title says. I need an assistant or two to help me with a model shoot this Sunday, outside of Myrtle Beach, starting in mid-afternoon. I can provide transportation to one person (in my Miata), or possibly more in my truck (although I'd rather avoid taking it if possible).

The 'job' will mostly consist of holding a reflector/screen (just think of a large, folding sunshade for your car dash), and at my direction positioning a light tripod with a small flash on it / holding the small flash yourself.

The shoot will be outside, in a natural setting, on the beach and around old buildings. It'll mostly be bikini shoots of three (possibly more) very attractive women*, with possibly some very light/skimpy beach clothing thrown in.

*This is a big, serious deal for me, so any off-topic, lewd, etc. posts in or related to this thread will be deleted. In the same vein, some of you need not apply because I know well enough that you won't act appropriately. Point blank, I'd rather have no assistant than one that will destroy my reputation as a professional.

Your compensation will consist of free food/beer (paid for by me), experiencing something you've probably never done before (and maybe won't ever want to do again :p ), maybe a little cash thrown in, and the potential of doing it again later on down the road, with more compensation. Just so it's clear, I am not getting paid for this. The models and I will be trading time - my time to shoot them, their time modeling, so there's no big payday at the end; all costs are borne by me. If my work is good enough, it will eventually lead to paid work, and therefore more compensation to whoever assists me in paid shoots.

If more than one qualified person shows earnest interest, I'll pick out whom I think would be most suitable.

For a taste of the 'job', or to seriously talk to me about it, show up at the Wings etc car wash, where I might also need a hand here and there.

...and oh yeah, don't be a flake.

As a good friend of mine says, "Peace and chicken grease!"

ooh...Tempting. I'm tempted to volunteer for this but we haven't met in person so you'd probably more interested in someone you already know.

I've been dabbling a bit in Photography quite a bit lately. Mostly nature stuff though since I have an abundance of it where I live. I would love to do more around the beaches and people. I never get a chance to shoot people.

One of the shots I'm most proud of

Not great but from the distance I had to shoot from it came out OK

This one I want to make into a banner for a realty company or something

I was hoping to try and make it....I hope I can

Can't decide to bring the Miata or the Falco....The falco is so dirty that it'd be torturous to expect them to clean it.....Bringing the KLR after a day in the dirt would be easier to clean than the falco right now lol

Good luck with everything.

Oh, I forgot to mention that the need for assistance came up about an hour before I posted about it, when I found out that more than one model will be showing up. Normally I like to have these things sorted out well in advance.

damn the farm chores. love photography, would love to help. if you ever get something local, count me in. (hell i could use a real job....just put in 2 weeks notice)

Mike

Yep, I have local stuff, although so far the shoots I have don't demand an assistant (although one would be nice).

Shooting three+ models in a revolving pattern, on a beach, in full sunlight is another matter.

You've had enough of that place? What's next?

Dave when you leave...You better leave slowly. As the draft as you pass the shop door just might suck me out also!
Needless to say...We are really hating that place!

Cant make it Mike. I would call you but your probably sleeping while I write this. I could be back in time but we're doing the whole Bed&Breakfast thing Saturday night. I already got in trouble for saying I need to leave at 7am Sunday morning.

The shoot went extremely well. Really, about the only thing that could have made it better would've been a large golf cart to drag our gear around, and someone fanning me and feeding me grapes while I did my thing :p

Garrett (dizzyg44) did great helping me out. I appreciated his ideas, assistance, and tact :hail:

I shot 20 GIGAbytes of pictures, and Garrett got some more on top of that

I will post up a mini gallery soon.

I had a really good time, thanks Mike!

I REALLY want to do my own shoot now, I would really love to do another one with the younger girl that stayed later (can't remember her name)

I was only able to get in 735 pics in between helping out.

This one was my favorite model to work with :D

Geez...That's a ton of pics! Thousands right? has to be....

I was shooting in RAW mode*, so each file is 10-17MB. The total was around 1500 pics. Throwing out 10% or so (blinking, out of focus, poor framing, weird shadows, etc.) still yields a whole lot of good or better images.

*RAW files are like exposed, but undeveloped negatives; they store the raw data that the camera sensor 'saw', with no processing applied; unlike a film negative which can only be developed once, these can be 'developed' in an infinite number of ways

That one was all skittish, and tried to pinch. Amateur
