So I picked up this nice used trailer today on the cheap, but I had to carry it's contents with it!
I don't want to mention what I paid for it because I got it stupidly cheap.
Came with a 1990 Hunter 18' Sailer, one owner with new sails (and original which are perfect), rigging, new tires, stove, porta potty, 3.5hp Tohatsu. He bought it new used for a bit and has been in closed storage off and on for the past ten years Almost perfect, no soft spots, still has all the cushions, solid hull etc etc......

Congrats !!
Navigating the ocean in a sailboat is the way to go.
Your wings are propelled by mother nature.
Sailing is a nice get away from modern technology.

Funny you said that, I just came back to post up some more about this.
I've been working on cleaning it up all day.
Looks like the little outboard may be toast. It was seized up good and nasty inside. Looks like it wasn't flushed out with fresh water before storage. The carb looks really good though and was stored dry. I got it unseized and spinning properly. Won't start though, to be expected until I get a new plug.
Took a light pressure washing to the deck and cleaned out the inside a good bit. Next will be cleaning the cushions. They are in great shape for their age, no fade, holes, tears or anything, just a little bit of light mildew on the bottom vinyl portion. None spotted in the inside of the covers.
All of the hardware is nice and shiny, nothing frozen/rusted/damaged. Maybe in the future I may replace the fixed cleats with swivel cleats.
The trailer is in great shape, just needs a new jack soon and check the bearings for good measure.
Most of this is just rambling to write down what I need to take care of as a reminder.
Anywho, now the embarrassing part that I need someone's help with.....
I haven't sailed anything other than small dinghies when I was a kid in Arkansas.
I know, not the brightest thing buying a boat and not knowing how to use it but for 5 bills it was too good to pass up.
Anyone here actually knows how to rig this thing up and sail it?
I'd really like find someone that is experienced but may not have access to one any longer, trade some boat time for sailing lessons. I'll even by the beer though I'm not really a big beer fan.
I might need some help with the finishing touches on this thing to make it really pretty and registering it and all that jazz but nothing major at all

It's easy...
Pull on the lines until you turn left. Don't forget to duck - that's why they call it a boom.
Old sailors never die, they just smell that way! :smilebig:
But seriously, get that outboard working right before you splash your new toy. With all the currents in the harbor, you might need it if the wind dies. C of C has a sailing course with small J boats. You might want to check into it.
Dizzy, maybe by november I could lend you a hand if you want to take it out in the harbor.
Nice boat, sailed a lot back in the day. Not much on the bigger boats, but much the same. How are the sails and all the other rigging. Winches, cleats etc ? Engine , what kind is it ?

The sails are in excellent shape, all the rigging is in great shape nothing rusted or frozen. The ropes aren't pretty but they are usable and not torn up. Could stand replacing soon. I may replace the cam cleats down the road with ones that swivel but will learn to use what I have for now.
The engine is a Tohatsu 3.5 2 smoker. I hope its not toasted if but was seized up good. I got it unstuck, need to get a new plug and see if she'll start.
