What in the hell is wrong with people? :wall: We're offshoring everything to the Chinese for the sake of cutting costs. Where do these 'savings' actually get passed on to people? Or do the companies just tell their shareholders that they've cut costs and now the CEO gets a $3mill tacked onto his already ridiculous $20 mill bonus.

Although our unemployment rate is low, we still have plenty of unemployed people. Oil prices are through the roof because China & India's booming economy. You might buy XYZ widget at Wally World(I loathe that place, btw) 'cheap' but then you pay $4/gal at the gas pump. So is it really cheaper? Not to mention much of the 'stuff' is such low quality that you end up buying it more than once.

Have we become that dumb/ignorant as a nation? Where do people think money is going to come from if we don't keep pushing the envelope? Instead of teaching our kids the value of hard work and integrity we give them 7th place trophies and tell them mediocrity is ok. How does this kid feel? I'll admit i only read half of the seocnd article, but that guy mentions drilling for oil twice like that's all this country thinks about. But you know if it wasn't for oil, China would seize up too. That country uses way more oil than the US does and most of the rest of the world.

The US is still the biggest consumer of oil. We're also the most efficient users. We get way more use out of a barrel of oil than anyone else.

With the elimination of Bell Labs it won't take long for China to get a Nobel Prize for inventing the next big thing - whatever that may be.

Personally I hope all those scientists give a big finger to Alcatel / Lucent on their way out the door to start their own research company. Wish I could've been around in the 60's to see the space race unfold. There's nothing of that caliber to be excited about these days. Putting an astronaut into space or even on the moon is the same as going down to the corner grocery store anymore. Funding for NASA has been pathetic, absolutely pathetic.

Busting up the so called 'monopolies' was idiotic. What happened to calling your utility company and getting a competent person on the phone who could actually help fix your problem? Have you tried calling Time Warner with an issue and actually get it resolved the first time? Do you have the option of a different cable company? I certainly don't. That's EXACTLY the point though - little Johnnie will grow up and breed eventually and then he's gonna teach his kids even less than his parents taught him because "that's old school". We need to start teaching the current school kids and their kids so hopefully by the 3rd generation it catches on and hopefully isn't too late.

Have you tried calling Time Warner with an issue and actually get it resolved the first time?

Once they had me replace my modem since it got fried.

Recently I've been on the phone with them trying to get a new issue fixed.
I can't VNC into my home PC anymore.
It will not let my ping the public IP Address of the Cable Modem.
I think the modem is dead.
However I can still browse the internet when I'm at home, upload download stuff.

VNC is a security risk and you shouldn't use it. Chances are you need to open the ports on your firewall for it, anyway. Use Remote Desktop, at least it's somewhat secure. If you can't ping to a certain IP, telnet to the port you're trying to connect to. RDP is port 3389, you'll get a black screen if it works. If it doesn't, it'll time out. But this all belongs in a separate thread.

You can change the RDP port to something custom, too, making it a much smaller target.

I don't know if there is a quick solution to this. It's like eating an elephant - one bite at a time.

A while ago I made a conscious effort to not buy anything made in China if at all possible. Am I making a difference? Not likely, but I'm hoping that there are other people doing the same and that it's something that will catch on and CAN make a difference. I'd much rather see those dollars go back into the pockets of American families.

I don't have kids yet but if/when that time comes I will do my best to make sure they're well behaved and that they know the value of hard work and its benefits.

I've been considering giving my congressman a call and having a chat with him about some of these issues. I doubt he can do much about offshoring but education is set at a state level.

I got the Password setup on it, hard to crack that.

I have the right ports open on my Linksys Router.

I'm gonna swap out the modem this afternoon and see if it works better, should give me a new IP address since it's a new device on the network.

well, i've started at the lowest level. i've discussed with my wife and she whole heartedly agrees with how the kids will be raised. i'm doing everything in my power (trust me when i use that phrase) to educate my extremely uneducated neice and nephews. attmepting to make people accountable for their actions (another "within my power," kind of thing) but nothing at a congressional level.

01 June: US Treasury compliance officers confirm that President George W Bush has received a ‘letter’ from the Queen and the Group of Seven powers authorising release of the Leo Wanta Settlement funds, failing which sanctions will be considered against the US economy.

• At the same time it becomes known (as we reported earlier) that President G. W. Bush is holding a letter addressed to The Queen and to the Group of Seven nations stating as fact that the Wanta Settlement funds have already been paid and/or are ready for release. Given the standard Bush Crime Family ‘preparing to settle’ ruse, no-one attending the G-8 Meeting in North Germany should have been under any illusion that they were about to be deceived on this score.

• Our prior exposure of that likelihood caused considerable dismay and annoyance at the highest levels of the US branch of the cleptocracy.

01 June: Foreign associates of AmeriTrust Groupe, Inc. advise that the White House staff and officials are ‘lawyering up’, with everyone trying to avoid prosecution by testifying against everyone else, as in the ‘Nixon White House’.

02 June: Investigators advise AmeriTrust Groupe, Inc. that the US Supreme Court Chief Justice and associate Justices are signatories to the International Court of Justice documents instructing the White House to implement the Wanta Settlement release, and to institute the ‘Constitutional Rule of Law System’ (i.e., inter alia to replace the Law of the Jungle with the Rule of Law) once the Wanta Settlement has been paid.

• AmeriTrust Groupe, Inc. is also advised that the release of the Wanta Settlement payment, enforcement of the Rule of Law System and introduction of the new US Treasury financial system were to have been synchronised and implemented on 31st May 2007 – with payment to the Chinese parties and their instructions to authorise release of the Wanta Settlement forthwith.

• The Ambassador and Mr Cottrell were also informed that, in addition, the US Supreme Court had signed off on these International Court of Justice instructions for the release and implementation of the new system to come on-stream between 6th and 8th June 2007.

02 June: Associates inform AmeriTrust Groupe, Inc. that The Queen would be attending the Group of Eight Meetings, as an invited guest, as would top Chinese representatives, including Madame Wu [as reported]…

02 June: Chinese associates inform associates of AmeriTrust Groupe, Inc. that if the Bush II Administration does not fulfil promises made regarding the Wanta release and payment, the Chinese will themselves step forward.

• Additionally, the Chinese patyies have discovered that the payment so-called ‘released’ to them on 31st May took the form of ‘Read-Only Screens’, and that there is no actual product supporting the ‘Certificates’ assigning beneficial ownership to the Chinese from the United States Treasury. In other words, the Chinese realise that they have YET AGAIN been lied to and deceived by the US Treasury Secretary, Henry M. Paulson, and fellow crooks at the highest levels of the US Criminal Government. Lying and deceiving the Chinese is madness, as previously explained in these reports. The continuing practice by these crooks of deception against the Chinese can only be attributable to a degree of arrogance comparable to that of the late Herr Adolf Schickelgruber.
