View Full Version : Street Fighter
Just got a '03 Triumph Daytona 600. The body work is trashed, so I'm going to convert this dude to a street fighter. Thing is, I'd like a little help/advice. I know several of you have experience in building these and I'm curious to see where this may go.
Right now, I haven't done a thing to the bike, the old trashed body work is still on it. First, I'd like to find headlights for it. Not really sure there. I looked at the Cyclopes headlight which looks pretty cool but I don't know much about it. Thankfullly, the tank and tail section are intact, they just need to be painted. Any thoughts on color? The frame is black.
With headlights, you'll want to decide what's more important, looks or function. There are some out there that are sort of in the middle.
The color? Black with some sort of accents, like dark red. Get the bodywork off, take a pic from the side, so I can photoshop it with different colors :D

Acutally, Dan, I'd like for you to see it. I'm thinking about changing out the forks.

We can meet up sometime, and discuss options. I don't know alot about Triumph's, but I can figure something out.

Get the Line-X guy to spray it with some colored Line-X, that would be bad a$$.
I think I like Mike's idea about the red accents but I do like the dark gray color. Mike, I'll get the picture up soon. Thanks!

You could have the Line-X guy spray background black. Then tape it off and spray on some red.
Why not, would be pretty cool.

I'm sure it wouldn't be anymore than $200. You're going to pay that for a quality paint job. You just have the tail, tank, and whatever headlight you go with right?

theres a guy on the hawk forum that had his tank covered in lineX.. looked kinda cool, he said it was significantly heavier.
he later dropped the bike.. the tank was dented, but you couldnt tell, as the lineX held its shape... lol.. he took a razorblade, cut the tank down the center, and peeled the halves off.. pretty neat stuff, but its covering bike parts in heavy rubber.. id just stick to paint.

Can't weigh much more than 8 lbs a gallon.
I can't imagine it taking more than 3 gallons to cover the tank and tail.

Technically it can weight more than 8 lbs a gallon, it's not the same density or consistency as water or gas. Almost like saying a gallon of lead doesn't weight more than 8 lbs.

Ok so enough with the science.
I called the guy, he said no more than about 10 lbs to spray a tank and a tail.
Said it'd be about $80 to do it.
I asked about multiple colors and he said it didn't really work that way. Couldn't tell me why over the phone but said come by and he'd explain it.
I'd imagine if you got it sprayed black, you could then take it home and mask it off and hit it with some Krylon and krylon clear.
He also said take the tail and tank off and bring them to him.

No it looks cool.
I'd maybe invest in some flat black for the rims or that red you were talking about doing.
Maybe flat black the engine in the frame? Maybe?
The wheels are in bad shape. Guess they just dowsed the wheels with paint remover. Besides that they aren't in too bad of shape. Powder coating them is also an option.

Paint da beotch with crinkle paint.
Oooooo I like the remote recov bottle!
Shade Tree Auto Zone special:
The wheel paints they offer in the rattle cans actually have a durable finish. As far as rattle can rhino lining, the can stuff does not like gas or other chemicals.
The old Triumph had really nice triangular body work. Just dress it up again.
Or toss new triple clamp on it and old school 11 inch GS headlight Bar end mirrors, Pocket bike tail section and they you go.
Where's Scrapyard been hiding out at ?

The old body work is trashed and finding decent used stuff for this model bike is no easy task. I do like the idea of new triple clamp and GS headlight! :evillaugh:
DK, do you have used parts that may work for this project....say.... like a triple clamp or something of that nature?

a GS headlight is OLD..
try a SV headlight, or a Vrod headlight or something with a clear face and a modern projector..
I may still have my old fighter light around. No clamps though. The OEM top clamp is not thick enough/strong enough for custom mounts. Look around for aftermarket top clamp for MX bar or Renthall Fat bars.
:chin:
I'll look around the shop later tonight.

What the heck are you doing Nash? That is a trackday bike if I've ever seen one. V-twin drive out the corners and inline pull down the straights. Plus you already have one show bike. Besides if you miss the next Kenny R. trackday, people are going to start calling you Travis!

Who's says I'm not taking it to the track? Street fighters are fine for track days, and it's much cheaper! Also, it looks like I'm going to be a base sport bike instructor and a street fighter would be perfect.
Anyway, neither a street fighter or full blown track bike is going to happen right now. I'm having electrical issues. All the electrical stuff works fine until I start the engine and then the dash and lights go whacky! I'm hoping it's just a ground or simple to find short, but we all know it won't be that easy.
Oh yeah, forgot....screw you, you bunch of ass birds!
