Well, doesn't he get the STUD of the year award??
Thank goodness he is OK though, if this is a true story. Couldn't see any of the replies from his comment, only saw other posts.

The story here:

Helmets? I just went down at 65 mph... < HumphryD-Skywalker (http://charleston.craigslist.org/forums/?act=su&handle=HumphryD-Skywalker) > 09/28 07:13:52

Yesterday I was cruising down the highway and hit an oil patch. The back wheel just came right out from under me. I wasn't wearing a helmet. Anyway, the bike skidded on it's side for about 30 feet or so, sending sparks everywhere and I ended up doing a kind of log roll. With every flip I was able to pull my head up to avoid having it hit the pavement.

Emergency personnel was on the scene instantly. They said if I had been wearing a helmet I surely would be dead right now due to the extra weight on my neck - would have snapped it. I actually came out of it pretty much unscathed. The bike has a small scratch on the right foot peg, but that's it. I rode it back home and both my bike and I are fine. I'm heading out in a few minutes to go for a ride.

65 mph and all you got was a scratched peg? Simply amazing!

The most amazing part is the stuff about the brain bucket. It seems the best function for that thing is for direct, head-on hits or as a man-purse while shopping for gay pirate gear at a motorcycle rally.

Something to think about for sure

"Emergency personnel was on the scene instantly. They said if I had been wearing a helmet I surely would be dead right now due to the extra weight on my neck - would have snapped it. "

What load of complete and total bullshit.

MotoGP, WSBK, etc. riders fall off all the time and tumble down the track at speeds way higher than 65mph. Have any of them died from a broken neck because of the helmet? Of course not.

Thanks for continuing to spread an urban myth.

WHAT??

the MOtoGP riders have been petitioning for < jjonnyrocket (http://charleston.craigslist.org/forums/?act=su&handle=jjonnyrocket) > 09/28 08:43:12

years against helmet requirements.

A good one:

Excuse me , but only thirty feet and yer goin < electrickytech (http://charleston.craigslist.org/forums/?act=su&handle=electrickytech) > 09/28 08:51:17

65 mph ? did it hit a brick wall ? And that is pure shit about the helmet breakin yer neck , unless it's the size of a pencil . I have to say I just don't fucken believe you , you ain't gonna drop a bike at 65 and the damn thing only slides thirty feet , I call bullshit , you couldn't STOP the damn thing in that distance if you had both tires locked up . I think you hit yer head and need to go see a doctor .

See, all the guys around town not wearing gear are smarter than we are. Glad someone finally cleared that up for me. I'm going to go throw my helmet away, especially since MotoGP guys don't want to wear them either. :wall:

I cant beleive that any emergency care profecional would tell someone that a helmet is a bad idea. I can for the record say that out of my 12+ crashes that my helmet has only touched the ground 4 times(that I know of). And as you can see I have never broken my neck in those times that my head did not make contact with the tarmac. What an idiodic statement. Darwinism at work.
