As some of you may recall Awhile back we found a unused racetrack VERY close to here. no not the "charleston gp" lol but a real deal race track right here in the 843. Well after some long talks and a crapload of work it looks like this may happen. The "owners" are writing up wavers now. I have allready road this track with the people that are helping me with this. So even though the FINAL word has not happened yet....get ready. We could VERY shortly be waking up and driving over to a track. Within 30 min from home. if were racing at 9am that means you need to leave the house at 8am. how cool would that be! I dont want to put allll the info out there just yet as me and 2 others will be running the program but if you think back it was a place dave was talking about.

If it's not the NWS then I have no idea what he's talking about. If he is talking about the NWS track, then his information is a big fat, 100% incorrect, wrong dealio!

Yeah I heard about the RRR incident. They're all good guys, a few were just new to the track and things happen, but I'm sure glad no one got hurt. And I'm pretty certain it won't happen again. Those guys have worked hard to make riding a sport bike safer for us AF folks.

Considering Daytona sits on 480 and the infield is 180 I guess it really depends on how big a track I'm looking at. Of course I wouldn't be talking about something of that nature but looking at Jennings and Roebling I guess I could get away with a lot less. Anyone got some land they wanna sell cheap?

That would be Hutchinson Island...and most of the track is gone with all the construction and golf courses built around it. The front stretch, some of the fast section after the front stretch and a little after that section still exists.

The Buccaneer region of the SCCA uses the pit/paddock area once a month for Autocross and they pay a rental fee to the GA Ports Authority to do this. The police crack down hard on anybody caught attempting to use what's left as a racetrack....especially considering you have to get by cement barricades and a locked gate to get on what's left. Heck, every once in a while, the SCCA guys get harrased by the local police when the cops get a little stupid and don't understand the SCCA have a rental contract in place. They now call the local police before they start so Barney Fife doesn't come in there like an idiot trying to bust them.

No doubt its a good program, For making street riders safer, I have talked to a few of the guys who have been there and and alot of them feel as if they now know a thing or two about Roadracing. Dave you are prolly the most Qualified out of the bunch.

Greg (unfast) and I are the newest Charleston AFB sport bike instructors and are greatly involved with the sport bike class and NWS track...as well as the decisions being made. I wasn't going to post until after Randy made his comments, but....oh well, he most likely won't respond now. And a lot of this stuff I'm about to talk about...I was going to wait until we are legal within DoD/AF policy. But there's too many rumors

Here's what I know and I'll let you guy know the exact truth as to whats going on with the NWS track. First, we can not allow civilians on the training course without insurance. Second, the AF will NOT pay for the insurance...we do out of our own pockets. So, the plan is to have an AF mentor riding club. Not only is this mandated by the AF (club) but by doing it this way we may be able to get more involved with the Air Force riding family and mentor some of the younger guys and help raise money. We will strive to work very closely with the local dealerships and try and establish a tight net relationship with them all. We need the local dealerships to help us, and we'll discuss this with them, one on one, in the coming weeks.

As far as the track goes, we still don't know who (civilians) will be involved, but most likely it will be very few since it will cost us so much. And remember, this track isn't a "race" track it's a training course used to help save lives. And I'm not going to BS anyone on here, our first priority is getting training to the DoD folks, FIRST.

And about Randy? If he's referring to this track, his name has never come up in any of our meetings, EVER. By what Greg and I know, Randy is not, what so ever, involved with the NWS track. So, even though I'm about 95% sure he was talking about the NWS and this is too much of a coincidence, he must be referring to another track.........yeah right!

Well Nash and Greg, how bout this scenario. I occasionally have to go to the NWS (Spawar) to check on various problems with Force Protection vehicles. I have always gone there in a vehicle due to being told I can't enter without a tag on my bike. Right now, my car is broke and I've only got the bike for transportation. I should not need to go out there till after x-mas (may change 2-moro), but what way do I have of getting the bike in there if I need to return?

WO, wo, wo, hold on. You teach guys in AA meetings and I can't get in?

It's crazy. When they sweat you can't tell if it the alcohol coming out of their pores or race fuel in their bikes.

I mean the only thing that comes close to this joke is if the USAF asked me to start training piolts to fly F-16 tomorrow. I mean I have watched one or two shows on how they work so I should be able to get that job since I have talked to the powers that be and all the key players:lol:

I got you covered bro. I had a incentive ride in a F-16 D model.
Broke the 9 g barrier. I got mad skillz. :evillaugh:

Well Nash and Greg, how bout this scenario. I occasionally have to go to the NWS (Spawar) to check on various problems with Force Protection vehicles. I have always gone there in a vehicle due to being told I can't enter without a tag on my bike. Right now, my car is broke and I've only got the bike for transportation. I should not need to go out there till after x-mas (may change 2-moro), but what way do I have of getting the bike in there if I need to return?

You will need to go the pass and id office to gain access. You will need at least proof of insurance, a motorcycle endorsement on your DL, and proof of a MSF course (the little card/certificate) and a reason to be on base. They should be able to provide you with a temp pass.

Don't forget - jacket, gloves, helmet are required. Depending who is working the gate - boots and a reflective vest may be required.

Over 9 G's with no training, on an "incentive ride" at that? You are kidding, right?

Booty Freak
12-11-2008, 09:51 PM
Nope, got the certificate too. Paid dearly for the ride. Puked
up my lunch on a approach into Charleston AFB & like a moron
tied off the bag as we shot back up to 20,000' to get back to
Shaw AFB. Needless to say I had to clean some stuff up from
the seat pan & survival kit. I was so messed up I slept for over
24 hours before I could stand up. :hic:

Sounds like a good time, but if you did even close to 9 sustained G's, with no training, or no suit, you would've passed out (black out or red out, depending). Even the top pilots in the Blue Angels can only handle those forces for so long, and that's with years of conditioning, and G suits. Instantaneous G's are another story.

This sort of explains your hankering for track time though :smilebig:

Not sure about that one, Dan. That's the Navy side of the house and they have different rules when it comes to vehicles.

Dan,

I work for SPAWAR and I had to get stickers for my bike in order to ride on base. I had to go to the MSF course held over by the AFB. If the it is the same guy you need to talk to, his name is Louis Pechon (sp?). I can get the number if you like. Let me know via PM if you want it, I may miss it here.

The blue angels don't wear G suits mike. Well at least thats what they all said on the Military Ch little thing about them and there training:shrug:

Thanks Booty me and you can start teaching guys how to fly by weeks end with all the seat time you got. I flew on a 747 once too So I can teach the guys how to fly C-17's I have been sky diving so we can teach SEALs how to HALO also damn I love being able to do things once and have a killer job as a instructor:lol:

last time i had to ride on NWS, it was just like a car.. had to show my license, proof of insurance, etc... that got me my temp pass... i already had the boots/gloves/helmet/jacket on... but i did get told that i 'should' have a reflective vest on, but they let it slide 'just this once'..
same thing with the AFB.. except it was alot more routine... also, never flip off the base commander when riding on the AFB. :smilebig:

whats going on is simple... some of the guys that work the navy "track" were working on wavers and finding out what kind of insurance they need to get to cover non-military people in their track classes.

randy forgot that some of thoes same people post on here, read on here, and talk to other people that are on here.

we're so full of his shit, that the first thing CJmembers did is say "fuck you randy, we know what it is, you're not doing it. we know who is and you dont have shit to do with it"
so randy left it alone here... although he probably continued to go tell other people who will actually be impressed by it...

I'm still confused though. Randy said "The "owners" are writing up wavers now. I have allready road this track with the people that are helping me with this."

I'm gonna stand up on this one and Jason and Chad should as well,
Sounds like he is up to something that could benifit all parties, now given the supposed reputation, I can see the doubt, but why bust his balls just yet, I mean sounds familiar I.E. APRILIA, RECON and CMP promotions.

We were trying to do something and caught nothing but shit for it, not defending Randy, but the situation. Enough is enough already. Let's see where this goes.

i agree, but then don't antagonize people who are already sick of hearing a bunch of crap all the time by putting out just a tidbit of information and starting rumors in an effort to be that much cooler if the whole thing works out. good luck with the whole deal and all, but but its not like its anything that should be that secretive...
