View Full Version : Roebling afterparty
So when/where will we have the afterparty?
The initial idea was to have it at the pub in Summerville. O'Malley's.
I did get an idea (or a brain fart, depending on your point of view) that we could combine the afterparty with Hooters bike night. If the weather cooperates, we could set up a large screen outside Hooters, and watch the slides, getting the public involved as well. This would give us (riders/dkf2/scriders) even more exposure.
Anywhoo, please discuss.
This is a great idea mike.

Ugh. Hooters again? I might as well start wearing the orange shorts and making money as often as we're there.
Thats a great idea kat! lol wow yall are on point tonight lmao
Let me know if you guys want to use McGuires again. They've been really busy lately, so a Monday or Tuesday would be best.

Both idea's are good. Even though I'm not that fond of Hooters, you will probably have a better turnout there. Either way is good for me. Just let me know when and where.
Hooters 14th 7:30pm pocket races too! we will need it in whatever format they have dvd or vhs.

mcguires would be cool, i liked that back room the way we had to ourselfs, plus sinc e the owner is a friend of daves i would rather give a local the buisness, but then hooters has the girls and a larger public arena so more people can get involved :chin: I GUESS IT DOESN'T REALLY MATTER! make the call mike since you'll be the one doing most of the work, let me know if i can help.
Thanks for the offer Kenny, I just might take you up on it.
Well, if no one is seriously opposed to it, let's do that then, at Hooters.
I have an XGA (1024X768) projector, and a portable 60" screen, does anyone have anything better? I'll talk to the folks at Hooters and see what they can get a hold of (wouldn't a 120" or larger screen be nice!).
Do you guys have a preference as far as pics go, or should I just set up a slideshow with every pic taken? Any suggestions?

Mike, do you still have business cards to give out that night? Or is it possible to have the forum name plugged on the bottome of some of the pictures? Make sure it's one they'll remember.
Forgive me for not being able to make this one. The Hooters girls aren't quality role models for my 11yr old.

I like the idea with the slideshow. Just set it up and let it run while everyone is socializing and eating.

is there a date for this (other than the 14th)??
No it is still the 14th....
I need to get something out there or off my chest. I am probably going to piss some people off but i need some clarification. I went and talked to hooters. No one else talked to me. In its all hooters came to me. I keep hearing about some meeting I attended that involved some people that discussed this. I spoke with kat and porto and many others. I didnt talk to anyone! just hooters. so All this stuff yall want to do is cool but yall need to let me know. If you call hooters and talk to 1 mannager you might as well save your breath. I have 2 meetings a week with the whole managment staff. If you talk to one manneger they have forgot what you said before you even hung up. Im really suprised the lights are on in there. But no i havent met with kat or porto or anyone. Mike this is why i was confused when you said " glad YALL decided on the 14th" I was trying to figure out who yall was...
Now that thats out I didnt say anything because i need all the help i can get. But what can fuck me up is everyone calling and buggin the shit out of the staff. Make sence? So if yall would please let me know your ideas and plans i WILL take them to our meetings. I promise. I hope i didnt piss anyone off with this but im trying not to make this anymore confuseing than it allready was.

Whoa Randy!
Before you start going off the handle:
1. We had one meeting with the general manager.
2. He approached us (Mike, Rafael, and myself).
3. He wanted us to involve the forum as a means of advertising for them and for us.
4. It was discussed that we would have a working relationship and try to drum up activities for Hooters to sponsor.
5. It wasn't discussed with you because I didn't see a need to involve anyone else when the plans weren't concrete.
6. Furthermore, I didn't know you were the point of contact as far as Hooters went or that we needed to let YOU know that we were on speaking terms with any of the staff.
I didnt think i went off the handle... I stated what was going on. I still need your help. but in a orderly way. If you have something going on with hooters on your own. im cool with that. but as far as the 14th is concerned please direct any questions threw me. after that run wild. I need as little confusion here as possible.

Its a case of not communicating. We had no idea that you were also being approached about the same thing. Its not really fair to stress us about not communicating our activities with you and you are doing the same thing.
Truce?
Yeah, the timing was a little weird as far as the 14th goes. It's odd that we even agreed on the same date without even talking to each other, since Hooters initially wanted to do this for the first time ever on the 12th. Anywhoo, let's work on making this event kick ass!
IM NOT MAD!!!!!!!! your reading me wrong.
i understand there is a communication problem thats why i let it all out there.... Still need your help
By all means, Kat, PLEASE include Randy!

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but how would anyone here know that you were not representing the SC Riders? I would assume that if anyone represented anything to do with DKF2 it would be Mike or Kat? The other think that I read into your message is that if we wanted to talk to the Hooters folks we should go through you? Excuse me for asking this crazy question, but why wouldn't we be having Kat or Mike to be doing this? Should all bike clubs in the Charleston area be going through you to deal with Hooters or just SC riders and DKF2? Again, I just thought that you were the leading guy on the SC Riders Forum so how would we know which group your are representing? Some clarification on your part would do me a lot of good.
He speaks for everyone. Barry, what a silly question; you should know better.

ONLY FOR THE 14th. If for example {mike im just going to use you} If mike wants to set a screen up and uhhh kat wants to have uhhh slow dragraces on the 14th. Let me know. I can sit down with the managment at one of our meetings and talk to them about it. on the other hand If everyone calls hoters and talks to A manager i promise your message wont get across. you need all three of them sitting down to get something working. Make sence? if you want the managment staff there to dicuss what you want you have to have all three sitting down in front of me or you. If you have them "pass the word" it wont happen. Trust me i have tried that.... So it is in your best intrest to have me discuss stuff with them because I have REGULAR meetings with them. or untill the 14th at least.
As far as who i represented there. it was myself. and i asked for a HUGE FEE!!! They owe me dinner at the end of the night.
Well then, there's more of a reason to send a DKF2 rep to the meetings.
Hey you know what..... Do what you want i was trying to help you guys out. Considering i was able to make this happen you would think you would take my advise. but thats cool go your way.

Dude, you're such a whiner when you don't have it 100% your way. You're so starved for attention it's ridiculous. Why would you have a problem if someone tagged along to 'your' meetings?
One thing off the top of my head, Mike has the video set up, why wouldn't he want to talk to Hooter's about the logistics of setting this stuff up? I realize you help out a lot, and it hasn't gone unnoticed, but you need to get off your high-horse every once in awhile.

Randy, I'm not saying that we don't appreciate your efforts to get things done. You and I are all about organizing and following through. I like that about you.
However, you came on like trying to take a sip out of fire hydrant. If you want my/our help, the best way to ask for it probably doesn't involve going off about the meeting we had with the general manager. Believe me, I was trying to organize my thoughts and you were going to be the first person I asked to assist me with a follow through. You just beat me to the punch.
It is strange that we were approached by the general manager while you were having regular meetings with the other three managers. Anyways...
To clarify, are you suggesting we contact you alone for what we need on the 14th of March only? And any other future activities we plan can be handled on our own with Hooters?
Because if I understand what the guys are getting at here is that they assumed you meant this venture and any other future venture. If this being the case, they want this forum to have a representative as well.
To be clear, I see Hooters as more of a SCRiders hangout anyway. It doesn't seem to fit the personality of the guys here. It was just an opportunity that literally landed in our (Mike's and my) laps.
Let's lay aside harsh words and misunderstandings and start over. With that said, what can I do to help you with the 14th of March?

Ok people... let me put in MY two cents to help clear things up for ALL OF YOU. There are little details that would enlighten all of your brain-housing-groups; I guess I should numerate them to avoid any confusion. The following will include an explaination, and a sugestion. You take it or leave it. I say, for the sake of ALL RIDERS, that we work together on this whole ordeal and remember we are one band of "brothers" who should be working progressively towards one common goal.
1. I was approached (speling?)... yes I, Puerto, Rafael, Red 954RR, how ever it is you know me by... well, I was approached by Tony (Gen manager) and the other manager, whos name I can't recall (Glasses) at this time while hanging out at Wild Wings one night. The idea was to get a Hooters hyperlink on the rider Websites. Reason being, after the bike show, when we did the burnout contest, they were impressed. During simple talk with the same manager who wears glasses, he told me he wanted to get Hooters more involved in the bike activities and wanted me to give him ideas. I was also approached by Richard Flink from 98X to work with him on getting some bike activities, more along the route of stunts and entertainment. Now I hope you ALL are paying attention to the following, because this is where the rubber meets the road... When I was hangin' out at Wild Wings with the two managers, the same day I mention at the beginning of this paragraph, we started talking about warmer weather and activities to plan for it. WELL, it turns out the manager with the glasses even created a profile on SC Riders' site to follow up on the posts for that one bike show they had at Hooters. There was a poor turn-out for it and the manager stated that SC Riders (don't know who specifically, but I can find out if you want to point a finger) agreed to post an anouncement of the bike show on the site... and here it is... ready? The manager got on the site the day prior to it and said he saw nothing of the bike show in the forum. He was disappointed.
That's where Kat and Mike come into the picture. Kat was going to meet us at Wild Wings that night and she arrived just as we were talking about putting the hyperlink on a site, so I introduced her to them and she mentioned Mike was the webmaster and would talk to him about it. Once we decided to work with Hooters regarding the Hyperlink, and they would also put us on their local page, we (Mike, Kat, Gen Manager Tony, and myself) had one meeting to discuss future activities and ideas. Had nothing to do with the 14th!!!!!!!
2. Here is what I think is smartest to do... WORK TOGETHER!!!
I feel Randy is correct in the sense that he was working directly with them to get this event going, however, if Mike has this idea to place a screen, it would be wise to in the least take him along with you to a meeting where such topic would be discussed. Simply because he and ONLY he would know the logistics of the matter.
3. I am technically representing DKF2, but ultimately represent the rider community. I work towards bonding and building bridges. If Randy has worked on this event, we are definitely going to help as we have by spreading the word to all those we know. Yes he did a lot of work, but we all have contributed to the future success of this event. If it fails, the public will not see it as a direct failure of SC Riders, or DKF2, it will be remembered as a failure of the Charleston area riders who talk the talk about being a brotherhood, yet fail to work together and support eachother. The deal is this... take it or leave it. We all lose if you guys don't agree with this. Regardless of who does most of the work, both forums should receive credit and exposure... DKF2 should be mentioned in this. We've got the next activity to give Randy a break. We will all still work together, but Randy can have his rest as we do the bulk of the work. SC Riders will receive just as much Credit. The event after ours is up for grabs. I think we should have a board of representatives consisting of members of both forums, and any others we deam necessary. I have spoken with Kenny Rodriguez, and he told me Champion Yamaha will support us. So... We need to get together and discuss the issue. This is simple stuff, we are all a melting pot full of diversity, which we need to take advantage of as we each have something unique to bring to the table. Your thoughts? :chin:

...but seriously, those are all good points.
We (whoever wants to pariticipate, but I'd say at a minimum Mike from scriders, Randy, Rafael, Kat and Kenny if they want, and myself) need to get together first, and then with the folks at Hooters.

I just want to be on TV in front of Hot Chicks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :ditto:
I need to once again clarify.
1. I NEVER stated to contact me after the 14th for hooters events. just the 14th.
2 i think I have stated why this needed to be done. You want the trueth here it is in allll its glory. do i own a fiddy? no. Do i do fiddy races? no Does hooters want fiddy races NO!!!!!!! I have had to fight and kick and scream to make them happen. Because the guy in glasses {Britan} hats them. There are also alot of other things they dont want there. So if I have allready did all this work and you want something I have allready fought for and directed why would you call them? thats like going to dad and asking for something and then when he sais no your sister asking. this just pisses dad off. {hooters being dad if you didnt follow} FYI I have allready asked porto to handle the next one as because my plate is full in april. {See what i mean everyone thinks they know everything} In april im working with lukes for the dragnight at the track.
However porto is right on one major part. If this fails..... welcome to another summer of "Damn guy we need to all get together" BS Im trying to put a end to that. thats my main goal. So uhhh bitch about it if you want but i do have a goal here. We need to either rock this place or get ready for another disorganized summer.... OH!!! btw this event IS NOT A SCRIDERS EVENT OR DKF2 It's anyone who is on 2. scriders has almost 550 members dkf2 100 thats 650 members..... Not even scratching the surface of bikes in this town. trust me on this. I have about 150 bikers in my phone with less than %33 online. Yea i know its nuts. but if we all party and everyone gets together then guess what more kneedragers and more dragracers. EVERYONE wins! but im tiered of bitching about this.
Here's what i need
1 big white sheet. right mike?
2 some way to project toms vid threw mikes tv thingy. Will my laptop do that?
3 some people who can get there around 5:30 or 6 to help clear the parking lot of cars.
4 the cones and tires for the fiddy races.

Good deal! Randy... and Kenny, I figure you're going to work together on the race setup. I think we need an accurate roster of riders for starters. This will allow you to have a head-count.
I'm available to help you setting things up on Tuesday... so count on me being there buddy.
In reply to the post made about just telling people to show up... that's fine for a little get-together, but when you want a turn out of over 100 bikes on a Tuesday night, you have to offer some type of entertainment, which requires some type of organization and planning. We are trying to do great things for Charleston Riders... this is much bigger than hanging out with no purpose at Hooters my friend. So let me just mention a few things that will surely allow you to see the imporance of proper planning.
We want to create a fun environment for all of us to enjoy, but we also want to get a better view in the eyes of the non-riding fookers out there. Not to mention the big reason behind it all... we want to help others... we want to give procedes to charity. This cannot happen by simply calling some friends and telling them to meet up at Hooters. We're trying to get the press involved, radio stations, sponsors, etc. See what I mean? I'm totally not trying to be offensive in any way, just want you all to see the bigger picture. Organization is key... otherwise we will fail as a whole my friends.
Jason, that's a good idea you bring regarding bikes on display... good promo for Champion too! We also have to negotiate with Hooters to get something in return... this should very well be a two-way road. We can't just go through all this trouble and bringing THEM business with nothing in return... sorry, not my style. We're better than that... and they better know it.

With respect to the coment about it being a popularity contest... it is no such thing... someone has to do it, we all call it Business. Why do you think riders on the track look like walking promotion boards? The highest payer gets the most visible and bigger spots. It's the law of the land. When you run a Website or are part of it, you want it to grow and be known. This is one way to do it, while having fun. But all I can say is if that is your opinion, I respect that. Just remember when you show up and have a kick-ass time with all of us out there... it was due to the popularity contest. Otherwise you would just show up to have a couple beers, look at Hooters girls, and talk about the last track day we went to. :smile
Know what I mean jelly bean? Peace!

A regular DVD is what I'll give you. It will be NTSC format (normal TV format, not HD - only because you can't really put HD on a disc yet practically). A laptop will work but usually they don't put out the same signal as a DVD player - maybe yours does, but I know my Powerbook doesn't even do that unless I export the video via firewire from an editing program. My professional opinion is that if you want to play it just to see it then don't worry about overdoing it looking for a DVD player, but if you really want to get people's attention then use one. There is a reason clients pay big bucks to use a nicer camera and buy HD monitors to play their video on at trade shows. The better the image quality the more of an impact it makes, so if you are trying to drum up enthusiasm from outside groups do everything you can to make the image as pristine as you can. But still, don't overdo it if you don't want to - you know I'm going to be a little anal when talking about this kind of stuff anyway.

You will have to get your license to get on VIR unless you join one of the trackday groups. I forgot there names. Ask Austin, he is a control rider for one of them. Take the Ed Bargy class, get your race license and then you can go anywhere.

Without a current license it won't happen unless you join NESBA or another trackday group. BTW can't you just renew your race license Nash? I just checked out there web site. If you want to just do track days and you want to go on some different tracks, then this seems like the best ticket. If you do VIR you want to do the North section or the full course. Weather you do VIR or Barber this year you will not be disappointed either way.

is that at roebling or jennings?
The only track that you can get on without a race license is Jennings GP. You never need a license there unless it's a race weekend. Roebling you need a license and Carolina you need a license, unless you privately rent out the entire track like Kenny does. Then you can let anyone ride on the track. Here's a link to the Ed Bargy school. I've done Bargy and Frank Kinsey. Bargy was much better.

OK guys...I have read this entire thread...my eyes are crossed and I am currently drooling on my keyboard!!! ( I really don't want to go back and double check) All I have to say is through this endless ranting...I have either missed or forgotten the meeting time this Tuesday (14th) night at Hooter's. I understand if peepz wants to help out clearing the parking lot they need to show at 5...but if your just showing up to support your local motorcycle group...what time? I'm not all up on my legel lingo...but a two hour bracket of people just hanging out with no purpose...is that loitering? THROW ME A BONE PEEPZ!!!
Minor suggestion...a post showing the end result of all this democracy would be great. Maybe even a link off of the main page...if I am ranting needlessly...please forgive me and point me in the right direction. I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!
See ya there at 7:30

Fugger i wana go! lol seriously man we need a vir trip. kenny make it happen man. call you people and put the strong arm on em.
Not a chance. To rent VIR North you would have to do it on a weekday that it is not spoken for and it would literally cost 10 times what roebling cost. The south course is cheaper but still way out of reach unless we were to get 150 people to go. Barry is 100% correct that other than racing the only way to get on the big tracks is to join a track day org.
there are 3 main orgs to pick from:
NESBA
Team Promotion
Sport Bike Track Time.
I have ridden with all of them and can tell you about each if you would like to know more . I do control ride for NESBA so I am more familiar with them.

FUck it, we'll just have to get our slide on. :evillaugh:
Well, the slides were a failure. Whether that was due to technical reasons (projector not bright enough for the well-lit parking lot), what appeared to be a lack of interest, or both, I don't know.
If you guys would like to try this again (at the pub), let me know.
On the upside, Tom's video was very well received. Thanks Tom :wtg:

Glad the video got a good response, and I thought the slides were awesome - I think you just don't realize how cool they were.
My company has some Peavy type speakers laying around that I know haven't been used in at least 2 years. I might be able to convince them to let me blow the dust off of them for the next event if we need some good sound. Just put an Ipod on the thing and let it jam.
Awasome job you guys! the slide show and the vid was cool. mike kick ass set up man dont sell your self short. i agree another viewing is a good idea though

Well, the slides were a failure.
Miguel, people were glancing at them. I think it would have generated more attention if the trailer had been facing the front of Hooters instead. Because people seemed less inclined to stand in the parking lot.

i'm off this coming tuesday and work the following tuesday. i work this monday and off the following monday. guess that gives me a 50/50 chance of making it.
We should make it an every other week event. Or we can go there for the races on Sundays. First MotoGP race is next weekend the 26th.
Ssooo... are we doing the afterparty this Monday? Tuesday? Next week?
