Ok...I hope the title got some of you pervs to open the thread and hopefully you have some advice.
So there I was, planning on taking the front end off the bike and getting this, as my co-workers put it, "motorcycle made for a japanese kid" re-sprung for "a slightly overweight middle-aged man" when I came across stripped bold heads holding the front fender on. Long story short, I have never taken the front fender off, but 4 of the 6 bolt heads are stripped, and imagine that, they are recessed a bit into the fender so I just cant grind a slot into them and use a big ass screwdriver.

Any suggestions on how to get them the hell out?

Thanks!

Sounds like you need one of those specialized easy-out bits, where you drill a dimple into the head, and then the bit to back the bolt out. I don't think I have one, but DK, Kenny, and several others here probably do.

I've probably got 2 or 3 in my garage, have to find them though.

Other wise, having a set is not a bad idea when you own anything that has bolts.

Autozone part number 25801
Advance Auto part number 836206, 648510
Ooh this is for stripped bolts.... 394001 (Awesome idea)

I'd say go to your closest parts store and ask for a cheap set of Easy-Outs unless you're in Summerville, I'd let you borrow mine if I find it.

Hmm says, Ladson, where you at? I'm on Midland Parkway.

huh, kind of weird I was talking to a guy last night, because has was afraid of over torquing his 12mm bolt that holds his tank on his Suzuki Boulevard. "Dude seriously, you snap the head off that or strip that nut with you're 1/2 socket wrench, then you are my hero and my body guard."

Obviously whoever messed with you fairing bolts before you got ahold of it was tool impaired. I'll have to look tomorrow for an easy out, but other than that, ride over to Advanced on 17 or 78 and pick up a set. Can't beat $10. Super simple to use too.

Put it in your drill, drill forward for a second, then put it in reverse, push hard, and drill slowly until it catches. Nothing to it. Regarding step one. As Mike said, sometimes you have to drill a pilot hole or rather dimple. 1/8" is good not much more, but the kit you get should reference what pilot hole/dimple size to use. (SHOULD)

Thanks man....I will try to make it out tomorrow and get a set. I have to take my daughter to a chearleading competition (UGH) in columbia on saturday so I am hoping to drop off the forks at the race tech shop there and get them re-sprung and valved...not enough hours in the day when you have 2 teenage daughters who are into all kinds of after school activities.....
