if anyone is considering having their forks done by thermosman, let me know. i'm driving up there on monday or tuesday to give him mine, and i'll gladly take anyone else's with me. (but i'm telling him to do mine first!!)

Not true, pull them off and send them to him with your weight and type of bike and he will set them up as well. He has different internals if you want them.
I've heard it time and time again that the Ohlins forks found on most street bikes are not the RT forks (never mind the $10K and up race forks), that they're essentially watered-down versions, so it often makes more sense to buy the regular version of the bike, and buy the better forks for the price difference. Not sure if the same is true for the rear shock.
My Ducati has the aftermarket Ohlins set-up, not the Ducati S model Ohlins. They are the real deal road/track forks.
However, I was actually referring to my Suzuki. I have the Ohlins rear, but still stock up front.

I found a racetech shop in columbia and had my forks serviced by them. Lil over 400 bucks and I got them sprung for my fat ass, gold valves and had them set for my slightly-overweight middle-aged ass. Ian Foyster @ hawley service center right outside columbia...great dude and took care of me...sorry for the thread jack...

I've seen plenty of dudes with stock suspension roll into the
teens at Jennings GP & Roebling. If it's good enough for them it's
definitely good enough for me. :yeah:
...but it's nice to have that extra margin of precision, feedback, quality, and ultimately safety that better gear gives you... otherwise we'd all be wearing Fulmers ;)
