View Full Version : Need a place to get tires mounted

MrDude_1
03-26-2009, 03:38 PM
I was planning on new tires, but I was going to wait awhile.
Yesterday, I got a puncture in my rear tire, and no one local had the tires I wanted... So I ordered a set from Tirerack.
They're here now, but I need some place affordable to get them mounted and balanced. Anyone have any recommendations?
I also might get an alignment, depending on the price. The tirewear shows that the car doesnt need one, but since I just bought this car, I havent had it checked.

Mostly affordability is top priority, as the tires themselves kinda wiped out my cash at the moment.

Dude, why don't you just roll that pretty little Porshe of yours into
the Gerald's Tire on Rivers or Dorchestor Road. I'm sure those guys
& their customers would love to see you beg for cheap service.

because they wanted $283 for just one tire... a tire that they were going to order from "tirerackdirect.com"

mostly im looking for someone that works there or has shop access that would do it on the side.

I'm sure you can find a "Backyard" tire shop that would love to
work on a Porshe. I know there are some homeboys that do tires
just off of Liberty Hall Road in Goose Creek that deals with re-treads
too. Give em a holla playa. :pimp:

Nothing wrong with posting here. I had just checked and responded on the SCR forum before reading what was here. I just didn't want to give a full response twice.

Tirerack has recommended installers that are listed on there website. The Tirerack installation price was cheaper than the rack rate for me in the past. Plus I got the life time rotation and balance included. Here is the link below.

http://www.tirerack.com/installer/Installer.jsp?zipCode=29485&x=15&y=6

Let me tell you this, when it comes to spending money don't be afraid to shop and negotiate. I just bought a set of tires for my truck last week. I saved almost $75 per tire buy not buying them at goodyear. I ended up buying them at Discount tire. They not only matched tireracks price, but they beat it and they cut my installation price in half as well. On top of that I got the lifetime rotation / balance and flat tire repair included. In todays economy merchants want your business, so negotiate.

I just got the goodyear Fotera SL in 305 45 22. So far these are everything that the consumer ratings said there were. The best tires I have put on my truck thus far. I have had the Toyo proxis and Continental Cross Contact. They were good tires but the Toyo's had a short tread life.

Tirerack has you covered. Just take this tirerack printout with the tire prices to your tire dealer and say hey buddy, Beat this and I buy! Good luck.

we must think alike, because i been carrying that page around for 2 weeks

anyways tires on that page come to:

$712.00 for 4 tires (the Goodyears)
$80.24 UPS GROUND
$792.24 Grand Total:

so $850 out the door is a good price,
unless the tire rack price included M&B at a local shop

good post. i have the Toyo's on there now,
they came off a SEMA Sony truck, he had ~500hp/1000tq
and i thought that was why they were wore out.

i was going for the Yokohama Avids for $850 OTD, seems good.

Hill tire charged me only $22 for mount and balance.

the guy at the end of Old Trolley? for a 22 or normal?

he his eyes rolled back into dollar signs like a casino game (remember ROGER RABBIT?) when I asked him about doing them last year

i know the forums because im not a damn n00b..
but i dont see how you could ever expect a forum to get you a girlfriend.

i think that was what the porshe was for

the porsche is because i wanted a sports car, and my choices were between that, a miata, a RX8 and a S2000... the fact that everyone makes a big deal about it is fucking annoying.. no so much on the forum, as it is annoying in real life as you're driving it everyday.

$850 is either a really good price for some badass tires, a really shitty price for some shitty tires, or a ok price for some just ok tires....
go price everything out, and figure it yourself.

yea, i shopped around, and ended up calling tire rack. i talked to JONAS (EXT.694)... very cool guy, knows his tires and their system... he helped me talk tire rack into a deal.. i got the Pirelli P Zeros i wanted, for $200 less on the front tires, and the rear tires were $10 less then anywhere else i could get. i have talked to other people there who were... um.. less then informed about tires... but this one guy is worth talking to.
the place thehammer69 linked me to was a tirerack installer page..

good answer, being a young guy, you gotta drive all that stuff to get it out of your blood.

yeah, i think i am past the days of "cheap tires"

I put Kumho's on the SS, many years ago, and they are hard and dry and slick and useless.

they have over half the tread left, but they are dangerous.

i side with Travis on this one.

he came to a decision point, and got the car.

i have a buddy at who WON'T SHUT UP ABOUT STUFF.

we finally just excluded him from ALL ACTIVITIES because he just grinds on stuff. dang, LET IT REST.

in truth, i think many people have nothing to say, and no conversational skills, so they "pick on someone to make conversation"
and the car is probably an easy target.

this is becoming more prevalent as the "nintendo generation" comes around, people who just don't know how to behave.

Tire shops don't take to someone that buys tires elsewhere, they tend to rape you when you ask them to install.

do you guys watch "wheeler dealer" on DirectTV?

it's 2 Brits buying & selling junk cars.

they did a Suzuki samurai and kept calling it "a hair dressers car"

hilarious.

did a axle flip, spacers, big tires, looked pretty fun.

I seriously doubt Travis thinks I'm picking on him. I would have thought Travis to go with a Camaro, or something like that. Maybe something with some Mopar power. Nevertheless, it's always good to see Travis communicate with those great explicit words......

Ive already owned 7 F-bodies.. 82/85/87/91/92/93 camaros, and a 95 firebird.. technically i still own two.. my 91 camaro vert, and a 92 RS.
you might see me driving the 92 occasionally. the vert is slowly being parted out. ive gotten $20,000 worth of parts out of it so far.....lol.

assuming its not a total piece of crap, and GM is still around, in a few years i'll buy a used 2010 camaro convertible.. (i like convertibles.)

right now, im specifically staying away from anything GM, as i want to expand my horizons somewhat.. have always had a Fbody in one form or another.. time to try something new. besides, i want a sports car right now, and GM builds crappy sports cars. last decent one they made was the Fiero, and it was only decent by 80s standards. the sky/solstice is kind of a joke. ive driven econoboxes that have better steering feel.

im sure like everything else, i'll get bored with what i have now and move on to something else.

agree

we've had 10 f bodies. all were rattle traps

drove a 08 Bullitt today to drop it off for a buddy.

AWESOME tight and rattle free.

unbelievable how much more civil it is than our convertible camaro.

i could drive that car everyday, esp with the nice little growl in the exhaust.

Uhhh Nash or DJ...care to chime in on this one?

The Fiero was pretty good in 86-87 GT version, and was badass in 88 GT version with the Lotus suspension. The 4 banger versions sucked ass. The "Iron Duke" motor should have been named "I'm gonna puke", cause that's what they would do in 60-70k miles.

since the economy tanked...you can now get them low 20's to high teens. BTW C5 Z06's had a sticker price when new at around $52,000, give or take a couple grand depending on year and options. Of course this doesn't include "market value adjustment" that some dealers tacked on, especially with the 02's. This adjustment had been rumored to be as high as $15,000 in some markets.

oh yeah, not anything special,

but a M6 C6 is pretty HOT when you think about it.

my wife said it would SCOOOOOOOT :hail:

i paid right around $30k for my old SS M6 Convertible, when it was new.
so i think any C6 for under $30k would be a DEAL.
