Just curious if anyone knows the definate on Bike week.. when it will be, where it will be.. etc. I've heard many of rumors, some saying it's done away with, but most of them saying it's just been moved to North Myrtle Beach.

i am pretty sure it will still be somewhat happening but outside of MB city limits.I also know lots of Harley riders as well as sport bike riders that are refusing to spend a dime in MB.That includes myself also,i will be going through there on my way to Darlington that first Saturday but will be fueled and well rested before getting to MB so i can just keep my money from being spent in MB.

I hear ya. Supposedly the vendors and the action is going to be in North Myrtle Beach.. but like I said previously, it's just hear-say on my end.

I won't be going to Al'Myrtle Beachigistan again anytime soon, if ever. Just riding through would be enough to get harassed by the cops; f that :nay:

Oh yeah.. Helmet laws in effect in Myrtle Beach btw.. if any of you planning on passing through w/o one, I'd advise otherwise. Signs posted everywhere.. saw that when I was working up there.

The "law" isn't a law, it's on ordnance. It's also only in effect inside the city limits, which I believe does not cover the 17 Bypass area.

Saw a big a$$ billboard for it at the end of Old Orangeburg road, where it dumps onto Dorchester Road. I don't remember the details - I was looking for stray cars, not bike week details :D

Yes bike week is still going. It was on the news last week. I cant remember the exact dates but its sometime next month and i want to say either 2nd or 3rd week. vendors will be in Atlantic Beach. And i have a feeling that its really gonna suck this year because of MB being a dick and because vendors fees went up. Yes there is a helmet law or ordnance, whatever its called if your in the city limits of Myrtle Beach they can write you a ticket.

These new ordinances apply ONLY inside the City Limits of Myrtle Beach.
*** There are no events (vendors) inside the city limits.
*** All events (vendors) are outside the city in Horry County, Murrells Inlet or North Myrtle Beach.

Bike week was actually pretty good. My buddy and his wife were riding around MB without a helmet, nobody pulled us over and we passed by many. Apparently it's only a 35$ ticket, and no points if they even bother with you. The cops were out in force around the action, but that's to be expected. I would recommend that if you've ever been and were considering going again, go ahead and do it. It's not as bad as I heard it to be. They have alot of bikers setting up petitions, fund raisers, etc to get the helmet law taken out of effect.

for me its just the principle that they are trying to do what they are, therefore,MB will nevr get another dime of my money!!

Just some things I noticed in some of the new rules they put in place in city of MB

Donnie, Your helmet would not even be legal up there,

Helmets may not have any rigid projections that extend more than 0.20 inches or 5 millimeters. This allows the helmet to have snap fasteners on the outside, but very little else. 49 C.F.R. § 571.218(S5.5).

here is just a blurp from the noise pollution ord.
It shall be unlawful and a public nuisance to operate within the city limits any type of motor vehicle that has exceeds a measured noise level of more than 89 on the decibel meter when measured 20 inches from the exhaust pipe at a 45 degree angle while the engine is operating at idle

or it needs to have a EPA sticker matching the bike etc etc,
It shall be unlawful and a public nuisance, to operate any motor vehicle of any
size and regardless of the year of manufacture:
1. That is not equipped with an adequate muffler in constant operation, free
of defects and modifications, and that prevents the escape of any
excessive or unusual noise, or
2. That has a muffler system that is equipped with a straight pipe exhaust
system (regardless of the presence of baffles), or
3. That has a hollow core muffler, or
4. That has a muffler that is labeled for off road closed course competition
use, or
5. That has a muffler system that has a cut out, bypass, or similar device
designed or so installed so that it can be used continually or intermittently
to bypass or otherwise reduce or eliminate the effectiveness of a muffler
or muffler system, or
6. That has a muffler system that has been modified in a manner which will
amplify or increase the noise emitted by the exhaust.

The motor vehicle found in violation under the provisions herein may not be
driven or operated within the city limits, and constitute a public nuisance when
found in the city limits, and may be subject to impoundment and immediate
towing to prevent operation as a nuisance vehicle. The police hold on the release
of the vehicle is deemed satisfied when the owner pays all applicable towing and
storage charges, and redeems the vehicle with the apparent and present ability to
remove the vehicle from the city limits without operation within the city limits in
violation of this ordinance

oh and a couple of other rules to the noise pollution, pretty much they can ticket you and impound it without doing any sound measurement if you engine brake or rev to high or run through the gears to fast.

f. Regardless of Subsections a - e above, it shall be unlawful to operate any motor
vehicle within the city limits so as to make any loud or unnecessary noise that
results from any one or more of the following actions by the operator to create a
per se loud and unnecessary noise:
1. Misuse of acceleration or braking power that exceeds tire traction limits,
sometimes known as "burn-outs", "burning rubber", "laying down rubber"
or "peeling rubber".
2. Excessive acceleration or deceleration while in motion where there is no
emergency need.
3. Rapid acceleration by means of quick up shifting of transmission gears
with either a clutch or manual transmission or automatic transmission.
4. Rapid deceleration by means of quick downshifting of transmission gears
with either a clutch or manual transmission or an automatic transmission.
5. Racing or revving of engines by manipulation of the accelerator, gas
pedal, or carburetor in applying fuel to the engine in a greater amount than
is necessary whether the vehicle is either in motion or standing still.
6. Operation of the vehicle by intentionally applying unnecessarily excessive
acceleration from a stationary position, or unnecessary, deliberate or
intentional bursts of acceleration while moving in a non-emergency
situation.

I think they might as well make every one walk or ride bicycles, cause even if you drive a stock civic and goose it or down shift they can impound it.

They just want to make sure the city gets their share of the tourist money, bypassing the businesses getting their part. Why settle for cents on the dollar when you can get the whole dollar?

BJ
05-11-2009, 04:51 PM
But the amount of bikes there with the loud pipes and shit, you're not likely to get pin-pointed unless you're cruising around by yourself with louder than usual pipes.. I don't think they'd want to deal with 5+ people riding in a group. lol We had no issues.. But that's not to say the next guy won't. We just stayed out of Myrtle Beach for the most part. Only parked the car there so the wives could ride with us. We were in Garden City most of the time, but we did shoot up to Barefoot Landing to look at the vendors (and say hi to Kenny) and get something to eat.

Since your first post, its pretty obvious you're here to cause trouble and I think you're getting the exact responses you expected.. BUT in the slim chance you didn't come here to stir the pot, I will say welcome and then tell you that the majority on this site aren't into stunting all that much. To each there own.

Coming here and calling someone a "hater" on your 2nd post is pretty "internet tough". Saying a sarcastic "thank you" and telling me how to run the forum is pretty "internet tough" too. Please tread more lightly in the future.

i can understand that..but the politicians are still getting there checks the business owners of myrtle beach did the suffering over it..the people of myrtle beach fought to get rid of these unconstitutional laws and at least the helmet law got dropped..

That pretty much sums it up. No cruising law, helmet law (though I think that was overturned recently), and asshole cops. Simple, if the folks living in MB don't want us, we don't want them.
