Apologies b/c i'm pretty sure that this isn't the correct thread to post this in, but i dont believe i have enough posts to start a new thread...
-- but my friend just bought a 98 honda vfr800 and needs clutchwork done. Said the guy who sold it to him said that the hydraulic clutch needs to be bled:confused:...... Anyway our other close friend has a bike & he's riding down this saturday from ga before he deploys for hawaii in june--& hopefully we'll all be able to ride together for the very first time before he leaves. Anyone know who'll be able to possibly help get his bike working by the weekend?

V4 HONDA POWER:hail:
I made mine a little louder and deeper over the weekend, without cutting it.
Shakinlaw, I have a VFR also. I have not done any major work on mine yet but I would check with Patrick at ECPS see if they can do it. I have a 90-96 VFR honda service manual in PDF format, bet I could find one for a 98 for your friend.

Mr. Shakinlaw,
as "rchecks" said, I would highly recommend taking the bike to East Coast Powersports for the clutch. Bleeding the clutch is fairly simple, and sould cost very little. ECPS will do you right.

Thanks for moving Kat. :yeah:
If the clutch has air trapped in it, the clutch slave cylinder would not dis-engage the clutch properly making it hard to get into gear. It would be similar to a bike with a working clutch lever being pulled in halfway.
Hope this help diagnose the problem.

do you have a trailer?
i would imagine bleeding the clutch would be much like bleeding brakes on a car,
clean the master cylinder lid
open the cylinder
top off with fluid
pump lever 3 times. open bleed valve on slave cylinder.
repeat, keeping fluid full,
repeat until you get clear fluid out the slave.
do you have a trailer & ability to tow it down there?

Thats about it 04ctd. The only difference is that brakes will actually pump-up. The clutch will never pump-up since it is pushing the slave cylinder. Still bleed it the same way, but also try squeezing the lever part way, opening the valve, then squeezing the lever till bottom, close valve, repeat as necessary.
You can also try a vaccum pump to pull the fluid thru the lines.
Good luck fellas. Hope it works.

I could try to help you with this, but like they said. ECPS would be the best bet as they know alot more about doing this than I do.. But I can't imagine it'd be too difficult.. You could also buy the "line bleeder tool" from Cycle gear. little hand held pump with a rubber tube on the end of it. You squeeze until you get nothing but fluid.
