View Full Version : How to get rid of throttle play?

hey guys...I've been tweaking my throttle cable adjusters and just can't seem to get this out of the bike. I've been trying to be really smooth in cornering but when I hit the apex and start rolling on the throttle, it's really jerky, like an initial burst of torque when I try to ease into it. Makes me worry that if I'm cornering too hard it's going to highside me.
My chain slack is in spec but should I try tightening that up a little? It doesn't feel like a drive train problem, more of a throttle issue. Maybe it's not as bad as I think it is but if there's any tips out there on how to fix this I'd appreciate it.
That sounds more like throttle response than throttle play. If you have an injected bike, I would think about getting a PCIII USB or something similar and tweaking it until your throttle is smooth. It looks like a gixxer in your avatar, but in case it's not (or if it has a similar problem), certain yammies had throttle position sensor problems.

tightening the chain would make it worse also if that was the problem. Did you install a PCIII with the pipe and is it a slip-on or full system? I have a slipon on my 750 and between 4-6k in 4th,5th or 6th I have throttle response issues like its shuting off for just a second. Hope this helps.

if you went from a 2 into 1 to a 2 into 2 or other system that changed the exhaust scavenging you can have significant tuning problems that are hard to solve without dyno time.
post up more details about your mods and your tune status (DIY, dyno, SOTP, preloaded)

Yes, it's a gixxer 750, all stock except for the jardine GP1 slipon. I knew it would mess with the EFI...I haven't spent the $$ on a PCIII because before now I thought they were just for power gains. I see now that they do much more than that. :chin:

If you really want it fixed right, call Steve over at KWS.

get it tuned at kws and make sure you tell Kevin to tun it for how you plan to ride and not just wide open throttle it takes a little longer but it is a Suzuki so he will be able to get it spot on. if it has emissions on it you may want to put th smog block offs on it for a more accurate tuning if applicable
