This all I could find on the GM closures.
GM spokeswoman Susan Garontakos said the company would not make public a list of dealers to be cut, leaving the decision to release information to individual business owners. That left many dealership owners upset and without answers as they fielded telephone calls from curious customers and reporters.
At least Chrysler had enough balls to let people know, GM bunch of wankers now.

hendrick dodge.
i believe chrysler had the locations picked out for a while but a great job of keeping their mouth shut until they made it fully public. gm also has more time on their sidde since they are not in bankruptcy.........yet

i'm sure crash car had some influence, i think it has more to do with mr hendrick being a hardass and a good buisness man. he doesn't accept crap stores, he will either fix it or close it. that's why he got rid of the saab store in charleston. many attempts to fix the store and the store as a whole didn't step it up to his standards

I am sure that he is also one of the larger dealerships around, and i don't follow nascar but does he not race chevy's? it will be the smaller guys who take a hit

When I was with a different Hendrick dealership years ago, Hendrick was the largest private owner of dealerships only car max had more but they are not a private business and are mostly used lots not new. Not sure if this is still the case but bet that was taken into account too.

last i checked, he had around 70-ish dealerships. i have heard many different opinions on what chrysler was looking at when they decided what dealerships stayed open and which ones would lose their franchise. the biggest and most common ones were profitability, customer satisfaction both with new and used car sales and service, location, condition of facility(up to date). those have been the more common ones that i have heard. not to brag too much about our store, but we seem to be better at most of those compaired to other stores in those areas based on numbers on paper. for my store, the only real compition was the hoover store in west ashley. much newer and up to date(they didn't even have ac in the shop) more techs, better survey scores(for the most part).
i hope those are some of the real reasons that the right stores were kept open.

Altman was shocked, he was like wtf on the news. He stated they had the most truck sales out of all the dealers around here and they have always performed good yada yada. I never liked Hoover hired to many morons, even think one of my old bosses went there (Hoover WA) years ago. I have had to deal with hendrick dodge in the past when I worked at other dealers and always got treated well so I hope you all do well down there in these times and hope this might even help you guys out.
Some of it is not just number of sales but also, making sure there is not to much competition on a local level that is driving the prices down. If you sell 50% more then other dealers but you are undercutting their prices that may get on you on the cut list. That is how GM said they picked a few of the dealers they closed, Chrysler probably did the same thing.
GM even went as far to say they want the profit per car to go up by limiting dealer competition with each other and making it harder for people to get 5 or 6 prices for the same model in a short period of time ie 15 to 30 minutes of hitting different dealers. So expect car prices to start climbing if you want a GM. Also plans of closing Saturn, Pointiac, and Hummer guess I will not be getting saturn #4 and glad I am not working there any more though they have started to suck since GM took them over.
