he was sweeper in a small group and the group went around a RV. As he was passing the RV it came over and hit him.

you have to wonder at the variation in skill level in a group of riders at this income level.
my buddy used to ride when Gene Reed was riding, he said Gene was not that good at riding.
no telling what the group was doing. group riding is serious business.

lots of RV drivers though have no training on them either and are easily distracted, oh and old as sin (not all but a lot are). most of the reports say the same as this one I found one with a little more detail but can't find it again.
Rossmeyer was riding with several motorcyclists when they pulled out to pass a recreational vehicle.
Rossmeyer was the last in line. His motorcycle was hit when the RV came into his lane.
He died from his injuries.

my buddy is ~74, and has a old ~200k diesel pusher RV he drove all OVER america, at WOT most of the time, per his wife.
i don't think modern drivers give the other guy enough thought nowadays.
if I was in a group, and rolled up on an RV, rather than think how tough and Bad arse i was, i would think of my old buddy, at 74 years old and 74mph, and give him a WIDE BERTH.
just saying, give yourself 5 feet for your cushion, and give the other guy 5 feet for his cushion.
and try not to meet in the middle.
we had a friend killed the same way by a guy in a large pickup truck.
just ride with a little more room around you.
you aint' billy bad arse when the shiny side is down an the rubber is upside.
i got hit once on a football field, and i could have (should have?) easily avoided this guy trying to t-bone me. a little tap, but a big awakening.

Even if you're talking about motorcycles, 10' is not nearly enough.
I don't even ride that close to Randy and I've been riding with him for years!
