I called and got permission to re-use these in any way that would promote safety, I used one for my Bible lesson last week, but this weeks is applicable to this forum:

1. WELCOME TO THE LATEST SUMMARY OF MISHAPS. LAST WEEK, WE EXCUSED EVERYONE WHO DIDN'T HAVE A LAWN MOWER . DITTO THIS WEEK FOR EVERYONE WHO DOESN'T OWN A MOTORCYCLE. THIS TIME WE'RE PLUMBING THE EXTREMES OF THE EXPERIENCE AND HEADWORK SCALES.
LET'S START WITH A TRIO AT THE LOW END OF AT LEAST ONE OF THESE SCALES.

A. AN AVIATION ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN THIRD CLASS IN FLORIDA TOOK HIS NEW KAWASAKI FOR A SPIN ONE DAY IN JUNE.
HE HAD THE MOTORCYCLE, GAS IN THE TANK, AND ENOUGH KNOWLEDGE TO GET IT STARTED AND MOVING FORWARD. HE JUST DIDN'T HAVE A LICENSE, TRAINING OR PPE. HE LOST CONTROL IN A CURVE AND RAN INTO THE RAILING ALONG THE SHOULDER. GOT OFF PRETTY LIGHT, REALLY: ROAD RASH ON HIS KNEES, ONE LOST DAY OF WORK, FOUR DAYS OF LIMPDU, AND A KAWASAKI SUDDENLY WORTH TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS LESS.

B. AND THEN THERE WAS THE AIRMAN, ALSO IN FLORIDA, WHO HAD JUST BOUGHT A MOTORCYCLE FROM A YAMAHA DEALER. HE VROOMED OUT OF THE DEALERSHIP AND CROSSED THE FIRST LANE OF TRAFFIC INTO A CENTER TURNING LANE, INTENDING TO TURN LEFT TO HEAD BACK TO BASE. HE LOST CONTROL AND SMACKED INTO THE LEFT REAR QUARTER PANEL OF A PARKED TRUCK. HERE'S THE PART I
LIKE: "A FULL SAFETY BRIEF WAS GIVEN PRIOR TO INDIVIDUAL PURCHASING MOTORCYCLE," THE REPORT SAID, AND IF THAT DOESN'T DRAMATIZE THE VALUE OF ACTUAL HANDS-ON TRAINING, WHICH HE DIDN'T HAVE YET, I DON'T KNOW WHAT DOES. TWO WEEKS OF LIGHT DUTY, NURSING A BROKEN ARM.

C. AND THEN THERE WAS THE SERGEANT IN CALIFORNIA WHO WATCHED THE SUPER BOWL WITH A BUDDY, ELEVATING HIS PERSONAL B.A.C. TO
0.12 IN THE PROCESS. HE HEADED HOME ON HIS RECENTLY PURCHASED, USED SPORTBIKE. ON THE FREEWAY, A CAR SUDDENLY CHANGED LANES IN FRONT OF HIM. HE LOST CONTROL OF HIS HONDA, LAID IT DOWN, AND SLID INTO A GUARD RAIL.
NO LICENSE, NO TRAINING, BUT SOME BROKEN FINGERS, BROKEN BONES IN HIS CHEST, BROKEN SHOULDER, BROKEN ARM, AND A JUMBO HELPING OF ROAD RASH ON HIS FEET AND LEGS. ALL OF WHICH ADDED UP TO A WEEK IN A HOSPITAL AND SIX MONTHS OF LIGHT DUTY.

D. OK, NOW LET'S TRANSITION TO THE OTHER END OF THE EXPERIENCE AND HEADWORK SCALES. A CHIEF IN WASHINGTON STATE WAS VROOMING ALONG AT 0715 ONE AUGUST MORNING, EN ROUTE TO WORK, WHEN A DEER BROADSIDED HIM. HE LOST CONTROL, CRASHED AND ROLLED ABOUT 150 FEET. NET INJURIES: A CRACKED RIB AND SOME BRUISES. HE HAD BEEN WEARING (THE REPORT SAID) "ABOVE MINIMUM REQUIRED SAFETY EQUIPMENT."
KUDOS FOR ABOVE MINIMUM HEADWORK, CHIEF. NOVELTY-HELMET- WEARERS WITH THE OBVIOUSLY FAKE "DOT" STICKERS STUCK ON THE BACK, TAKE NOTE.

E. IN NORTH CAROLINA, A MASTER SERGEANT WAS HEADING HOME FROM TEACHING A MOTORCYCLE SAFETY COURSE. AS HE APPROACHED AN INTERSECTION ON A STATE HIGHWAY, A CAR DIDN'T YIELD AND CROSSED THE INTERSECTION. THE MARINE APPLIED HIS HARLEY'S BRAKES, SKIDDED, RELEASED AND REAPPLIED THE BRAKES AND TRIED TO SWERVE AROUND THE CAR. THE BAD NEWS IS THAT HE DIDN'T MAKE IT-HE HIT, FLEW OFF THE HARLEY AND LANDED IN THE MEDIAN. THE GOOD NEWS IS THE SMALL NUMBER AND SEVERITY OF HIS INJURIES: STRAINED MUSCLES IN BOTH LEGS AND HIS GROIN, AND A SPOT OF ROAD RASH ON HIS FOREARM, ALL THANKS TO HIS SUPERIOR TRAINING, HIS SITUATIONAL AWARENESS, AND HIS PROTECTIVE GEAR.

2. THAT'S ALL FOR THIS WEEK, COMPADRES. UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN, LET ME SHARE A NEWS BLURB I READ THE OTHER DAY ABOUT A WOMAN WHO WAS A PASSENGER ON THE BACK OF HER HUSBAND'S MOTORCYCLE. A CROW FLEW OVERHEAD AND DROPPED ITS DINNER (A DEAD SKUNK), WHICH HIT HER IN THE FACE. I CAN'T THINK OF A BETTER ADVERTISEMENT FOR WEARING A HELMET AND A VISOR.
