I had a great time! Nice to finally match faces with forum names. The day was perfect except for my P.O.S. Suzuki that still won't run right and the black dog in turn 1.

Hey JOKER, thank you for letting us take over your spot when Kat got hurt :wtg: I'll get you a few nice pics for your trouble.

JOKER might've left his cellphone on the pad. It's a small Nokia candybar. If you picked it up by mistake, please let us know, and we'll make arrangements to have it sent back to him, thank you.

We had a wonderful time at Jennings yesterday. If you haven't heard we had probably 25 people to go with our group. Of the 25 there were 7 to crash and 3 or 4 more to ride off the track. I don't know what was in turn 1, but at least half of the group went off the track in turn 1. Dave and I called turn 1 the black dog syndrome. Because most people that wreck for unexplained reasons either blame it on the black dog or the deer. There obviously was a huge black dog in turn 1. Everyone walked away from there accidents which was good. I think that in spit of the accidents most everyone still had a great time. Like Nash said it was good to meet all of you guy's from the Charlotte and H.H. / Beaufort areas. I look forward to seeing some of you down there on the May 6th race weekend.

Just to let you all know I handed out another award on Sunday. The best new potential Charleston Racer Award. After watching all of the first timers to Jennings we quickly saw that Dave W. and Puerto were definitely moving pretty fast. So we had a little mock run off race. Dave got the jump from the start and was running consistent 32's from the jump which is amazing. Well after 2 laps Puerto started pouring it on. Nash timed him and he clocked a 29. I said that your on crack and you don't know how to operate stop watch obviously. So he timed him again right after that ,and I saw it with my own eyes, he ran a freaking 28. I couldn't believe it. At the end of the day Dave was a freaking Iron man. After everyone else was pretty much exhausted he ran 3 sessions back to back and ended up dropping down to a 31. So congrads to Puerto and Dave. Did I fail to mention that Jason and Evan were probably in the top 3 or 4 of fastest guys at the track? There was only one guy there that I saw that was faster than Jason and he was a veteran expert racer on a gsxr 1000. I was behind Evan a couple of time and he was really railing. Keith and Doug were runner up to Puerto and Dave W., they were really going fast out there as well. I knew that they both were going to be fast on the track. I will have to say that I really got the biggest kick out of seeing people like Smitty and Ted and all of the first timers on the track. I had a blast watching all of you and I hope you all had fun. Randy thanks for taking the bull by the horns and organizing this. I had a blast hanging out with all you guy’s and I look forward to doing it again soon.

It was a fun weekend, got to meet alot of new people. I think we found are two new amatuer racers for next year, Porto and Dave. I am doing fine after my wreck, just sore as hell. I was planning on racing at jennings in two weeks but dont think ill be able to make it now do to the damage done to my bike and gear :lmao: . I should have it fixed in time for the Roebling races.

OK, the gallery is uploading, and is partially available. The 'favorites' folder contains cropped and somewhat processed images at full size. To see them in full size, you have to click in the lower middle of each slide.

It was nice to meet a lot of you guys at Jennings. Every one welcomed me like I had been riding with you guys for years. And all of the advice from Barry, Dave and Dave and assistance with bike setup was great, it helped my riding and made the day more fun. It was my first time on any track and I had a blast, definitely ready for another one.

Wow... amazing... let's see, most of the guys that told me this and previous track days that they'd get lots of my pics haven't gotten a thing, so besides getting some practice in, I basically wasted lots of my time shooting, organizing, and hosting these pics.

Just out of curiosity, what went wrong, why put me up to this photography thing and promise me business, and not follow through? My pics not good enough? Price too high? Did I spam too much? What?

CameraTrick
05-03-2006, 01:24 PM
A word of advice from someone who has been through it.....Your pics are great....your prices are dead on for the group you're marketing to....You're not spamming, you're marketing - nothing wrong with that.

Get your best samples together, show people what you can do, set the price for pictures, and sell your service BEFORE the day starts, or as the day goes on. Bottom line, you don't take a picture until the money is in your hand. There is no doubt at this point that the pics you take will be great, so if someone thinks they would like a pic of themselves then they need to pay. You're giving them a free service otherwise because looking at a pic with a watermark on it may be enough for them. Put up an eisel somewhere where everyone goes by and let them see what you can do.

Honestly - if it were me I would raise my prices, shoot less. My company practices that philosophy. You'll come out ahead in the long run in regards to your profit margin and overall quality. Charge $35 for 1, $50 for two. Have the photos printed yourself and mail them to them. People like to have a photo they can frame, and many don't know how to get a good print done, or don't want to go through the trouble. People pay extra for a turn key product, so show them a sample in a frame and send them their pic in a frame. I'd pay for it if I thought it was something I couldn't get anywhere else. That being said you can't expect people to buy a $35 pic everytime they go to the track.....but again, you'll come out ahead in the long run.

Remember that in this business word of mouth will sell your services more than anything.

I've bought a few pics from mike and I love them his work is awesome, you guys love to see your self out on the track and always ask him to post them, he puts a lot of hard work into these pics......So show him some love and buy a few :wtg:

05-03-2006, 03:11 PM
Mike i have bought them... the price is a bit higher than the guy at the track he charges 35 a disk and you want 50 a disk. being a friend i paid it. so please remember the info is just to help you. I also find it hard to get with you to get them. If i wanted to sell more i would find out who wants them match the track price make the disk and then honestly, hound them to meet up and settle up.... treat it like my company, 1/2 up front half at completion. then {me} for example if i would have paid 17.50 for a disk and when i got back i wouldnt want my 17.50 to be lost so i would come looking for you.

Mikey Mike, please set up a paypal account.

999Duc
05-03-2006, 04:34 PM
I have some input that may or may not be worth a shit.

That weekend at jennings was the first weekend I didn't purchase anything from a photographer. I usually buy a CD full of pics for about $60-$65.
I didn't buy from the track photographer for several reasons:
1: He only had 3 pics of me total ,even though I rode every expert session except one due to a problem with my leathers.
2: Prices , one picture for ........ I forget how much exactly but it was about more than half the price of a full CD with 30 pictures on it typically.
3: He didn't have them sorted so it took 45 minutes of looking through 2000 or more pictures to find 3 of me.

Just food for thought, if you care.

I didn't purchase any pictures from you because there were only 2 or 3 of me and while your work was good , I didn't like my body position in those particular pics in that particular turn which had nothing to do with you.

I saw your pics of Greg , and they were awesome.

If you are at another event I am at and snap a bunch of pictures of me , I will buy the CD after the event.
Im not expecting to like all of them , but if you take at least 20 and I like 3 or 4 then it's worth $60+ to me.

I don't think asking people to pre pay you is a good idea.
I do think that setting up a paypal account will help you greatly.

Mike
05-03-2006, 04:39 PM
Lots of good posts, thank you guys. I'll have to seriously consider every single idea you've given me so far.

I've had PayPal for years, and that's how I've accepted payment for my pics from several people.
