We just had a meeting at work and they announced that they were creating a night shift in our building and possibly another facility. That's somewhere between 200-300 openings. The company is SAIC/EMA and they will be holding a job fair at the coliseum on 22 December. I'll post the time as soon as they tell us. If you can't make that I will be happy to turn in a resume for you, just PM me. The work involved is helping to build the new MATV military vehicle and simply requires basic mechanical knowledge (this is a hammer, this is a drill). I'll post more info as it comes and feel free to pass along to anyone looking for work.

I won't say they are the greatest trucks, but at least you know your work is important. Because of the troop increase in Afghanistan our number of trucks to put out each month has tripled. Not only will SAIC/EMA be hiring, but also the sub-contractors working on the project. Imagine One, Scientific Research Corporation, ManTech are some of the main ones. I have a Secret clearance, but it is not required to be hired. They will give you an interim based on your background check while they conduct the full investigation. If you have any sort of mechanical or, more importantly, electronic experience you're fully qualified.

Mike, we'll talk... I'm so opinionated on military matters. I don't want to get on a rant.

K, still no word on the time the job fair will start.

If you're interested the company website is SAIC.com. The job I currently do is Mechanical Assembler/Electronics Technician.

This will be a full time position (60+ hrs/wk) and will at least last til the summer. They have to produce more than 1000 trucks a month to keep up with the troop increase that the President just authorized.

I'll keep updating info as I get it.

They are BEGGING us to switch to night shift. Right now they are offering a 10% differential for it. If you need the money, jump on this! Anybody who has a basic mechanical knowledge can do this job. I'm talking changing a flat tire mechanics. Basic electronics are a plus as well. You need to be able to differentiate positive and negative wires. It's really BASIC stuff.

and they are accepting hard copy or electronic resumes from employees for referrals. So get on there and apply. They HAVE to fill these positions within the next 2-3 weeks. It's a simple 1 day orientation and then you start work. This isn't the best paying job, but you're at least looking at 14-20/hour. That's better than having no job at all at this point. Also, they have other locations that will have some people swapped around, including the building in Orangeburg. For some of you that live pretty far away from the Navy base, that may be an option.

ok, they suckered me in to going to night shift. They gave me a position as a line supervisor so I couldn't really say no. I will be starting this Tuesday night. They only had about 15 people volunteer to switch out of the 35ish they need to start the shift. If you are out of work or know someone that is, get in touch with me!! The word is it will only be a night shift position for about 2 months. They are leasing a new building (somewhere on N. Rhett) and when it is ready the night shift will flip to a day shift operation and move to the new facility. This job has a time frame of 6-9 months with current demand. They are expecting more orders for trucks when the troop increase kicks in. I had a conversation with the boss today and he said experience is not what he's looking for at this point. He needs people that are willing to put in the work (and pass drug screen/background check). Let me know if you have any more questions.

Force Protection has the same problems. We will possibly be hiring welders and assemblers in Jan-Feb. timeframe. We just signed for a couple big orders and we don't have the manpower to cover, so hiring is a definate possiblity. I'll keep everyone informed as I hear things.

Still didn't hear a time on the job fair. I would personally head up there about 9am, and even if it hasn't started there will be some posting of when it does start. I'm attempting to stay awake until 6 to call my supervisor and get a time.

Also, even if you applied online or submitted a resume, go to the job fair. It will be much more beneficial to you to meet the guys in person.
