Here is the story of my weekend. This is gonna be long, so bear with me.
It was pouring rain the whole day of class, with about 45-50 degree temps. The last session while working on braking drills, I was going down the backstrech, and it has a slight hill towards the end. As you crest the hill, that is where the brake markers begin. I didn't see the puddle just over the hill, and as I hit my brakes, the front wheel hydroplaned, and tucked. The bike and I went sliding for a while. I was fine, but the bike had a broken clip-on and broken rearset. I got the bike to the pits, and finished class. It was raining too hard, and Ed chose not to run the mock race. An instructor loaned me his bike and ed had us line up in a grid for a mock start. We did the cards, and ran around the track, back to the pits. He had us go back out for another lap, and he was going to wave a flag of his choice at us, and we had to follow what the flag wanted. We completed a lap, and he waved the white flag with a red cross (Ambulance on course), so we kept going for another lap, then pitted in. That was it.
The final exam is closed book, open container, per Ed. I took the final exam with a beer in hand. How cool is that? I got 100% on the test and received my diploma. Sharon stayed in the room all day with stomach flu.
I checked my phone after class and had missed calls from my renter in Indiana, both my parents, one of my Indiana neighbors, and an Indiana friend. I called my parents first, and found out my idiot renter put a wood burning stove in the detached 2 1/2 car garage/workshop improperly. He burnt the garage to the ground, and scorched the back half of the house. The fire also burnt the wires going to the house, shorted them out, sent a surge into the house, and fried most of the wireing throughout the entire place. Had to make many calls on Friday night to get things rolling on that. Bike and raceing took a backseat.
Saturday morning, Kenny made a call to the Hooters race team. Their crew chief Jonathan, hooked me up with a brand new set of Vortex clip-ons and rearsets. I pulled the bike into the room at the hotel and changed everything out. My front brakes were acting funny, so I gave them a complete flushing out. I am now ready for the track. Sharon again spent the whole day in the room with stomach flu.
Sunday morning, I got to the track, set up, and was putting on the tire warmers when I noticed the brake pad on one caliper was 1/8" away from the rotor. WTF? As I spun the wheel, I noticed the rotor was bent. I took me well over an hour to find a replacement rotor at the track. The Hooters team helped me again! We discovered that a GSXR 1000 rotor will work on a GSXR 600-750 wheel. By the time I got everything together, practice had already ended. Sharon was still feeling like crap and spent most of the time in the truck with the heater on.
With completing the race school, you are given a provisional race liscense. This is basically a learners permit. If you crash while provisional, you have to take the school again. My stratagy was to just survive this race and finish on two wheels. Next months race at Roebling Roads is a national event. Provisional riders are not allowed so you must have your race card to run at this event. Just finish on two wheels, and bring the fight to Roebling. I was race #8, so I got the new tires mounted by Dunlop, and on the warmers. My race came up and I was basically running blind. I had only run there in the rain at about 1/2 speed, so I didn't know what gear to be in, and where to brake. I was gridded up dead last on row #8. There was a field of 20 bikes. The flag drops, and I do my usual dragrace start and pass 6 guys going into turn #1. I held my position for 2 laps, and 1 guy passed me back. During the race, 2 guys crashed and one was hurt pretty bad. In the end, I finished in 13th place. I could have pushed much harder, but I had to play it safe to get my race card. I was getting faster with each lap as I learned the track. My best time was 1:10, and the race winner had a 1:03. Most of the pack was at 1:05-1:08. If I could have made practice on Saturday or Sunday, I would have easily been midpack.
We made it back home around 11:30pm. Sharon slept most of the way so I listened to the Colts on AM radio during the ride home. AM radio sucks! All in all, I learned alot. I look forward to Roebling next month.

Thanks for the good words Jason. It means alot coming from you. It's gonna be real hard to not go balls to the wall at Roebling next round. Honestly, I don't think I can hold back. That is our house! Looking at the times from Wera being there last Sept, third thru 10th was in the 1:20's. I can honestly do 1:20's on crap tires. Good job Dan. On another note, what did you think of that track?
That is a tiny lil track. It's in good shape though. I was definately geared wrong since I did not even get out of 4th gear. I'm currently at -1 front and +1 rear. The expert 2 smoker bikes were running the same times as the expert superbikes. That is a small bike track for sure. The 600's were running better times than the 1000's. Tim Hunt won the expert superbike "A" race with a best time of 1:00.3. The expert superbike "C" 600 race had a best lap of 59.02 by Jimmy Merck.
The track was even smaller (and more technical) when I was there a few years ago. You could walk from one corner to the other in a couple of minutes.

As far as first race weekends go:
It was october 2004 Miami, Race of Champions. The Mexican Kenny "Dirty Sanches" Rodriguez was the heavy favorite in the Novice 600 classes. He had dominated nearly every race he intered. And He was even bring up a new racer Jason "Showtime, I dont know what I'm doing" Duplantis a kid who put himself in the hospital on just his second trackday of his life.... Either Kenny loved him or he wanted to kill this kid.....;)
The stage was set after a 13hr drive down the coast to the bottom of the sunshine state. After unloading the trailor and get set up in the pits, Showtime decided to go walk around and settle his nerves. The track was amazing.... this was surley no RRR or jennings GP. A bit over whelming. No bother, I'm Showtime! I'm gonna shock the world today! Time to get ready for practice!
As I put on my leathers I and glanced over at my newly painted 2003 CBR 600 RR dyno ready at 98hp to the wheels. I thought oh yeah lets do this! Check the tire presure on my Ebay special dunlop take offs and I was good to go! 3rd call for ODD # 600cc novice pratice, Kenny dropped the stand and I was off I roll through the pitts thinking I wonder what my new Ben Bostrom replica helmet looks like in the sun. It was the new suomy red one!:smilebig: Never mind, Im here to dominate...... I roll out of pit lane and on to the track there are a ton of bikes out here So I quickly pass two guys as we come to the fist turn, then down a small hill to a banked right hander that switches into a left then a short straight...... WOW this track is fun. Then here come the brake markers hard on the brakes, and into a right bus stop that opens up into another right handed kink I make it through there ok, And I think to myself that next lap I will pin it through there..... Fast forward to the next lap and here it comes just stay on the gas and......Oh shit the rear is spinning.......Wow my butt is dragging not my knee.......Close the throttle the devil says...... Houston we have lift off. Kenny's voice is in my head "you bought those tires on ebay??" Shit I should have should have bought new ones. Oh look at those flowers.. Bam lights out..... Wha. what happened, oh hi kenny, I was going fast! Ambulance guy says " is he always like this? Kenny says "yeah hes fine" back to the pits my bike is alraedy there looking like a truck hit it. And I turn to Matt and kenny and say, Dude we are in Miami? Yes Jason.... Did I drive? :lmao: I pretty much slept the rest of the day and night woke up with lotion all over me and went back to the track the next day to fix the bike.
The bike wasnt so bad just needed a clipon and a levers and a good cleaning. Spent all day getting that squared away and watched a few races.... Wow the grids are huge atleast 50 deep in everyrace. Man I will be starting in the rear for my races. No problem its Showtime!
Sunday Race day, this is my big shot I have two races toady new tires, fixed bike and I feel great. Did my practices and checked the lap times, oh man I gotta pick it up I was near the bottom of the list. O'l Sanches was 1st,2nd or 3rd in every session. Time for the race we go out and get grided up and I am in the second to last row spot 53 with four guys behind me. There is a two wave start so kenny and the other guys take of about 5 seconds go buy and we are off! I get a great start and buy the time we are past the first and second turn I am now in front of my whole group!:D I can see the last couple of guys from the first wave and by the time we hit the bus stop I have passed two of them on the brakes as we exit the turn we are approching the kink and I just lay on the throttle:popcorn: The tire spins a little but I make it threw the turn on to the staright and I am flying.... I passed atleast 7 or 8 guys as we come to the next bus stop type turn as we exit I can see a group of riders and.... Oh shit thats Kenny! RED FLAG! Everyone throws there hands up and we slow down and head to pit road as we get there I ride in right behind kenny And we stop he looks behind him and says "where did you come from?" I dont know I was just passing guys...... He Laughs and says "alright! Get a good start and go for it" We grid up again and I'm back in the back..... Fuck I was just up there with the first group! I gotta pass in the first turn! Ready set and we are off! As we get to turn one everyone is pilling up and I try to get as far inside as I can.... OH shit! Smash! I ran into the back of the guy in front of me going atleast 20mph faster than him, I go sailing over the bars and then ground sky, ground, crack somthing hit me in my back so hard I ended up face down in the gravel trap....... I just laid there...... A minute or two later I see a face and its a racer, he says dude I just ran over you! I'm so sorry! Are you ok..... I want to say something but I cant breathe...... finally after what seemed like forever, Air came rushing into my lungs and I said "I'm OK"...... There was no red flag just a standing yellow and I sat there in pain... the corner worker asked if I needed an ambulance but he would have to stop the race... I said no but I really did. Around the last lap I see kenny who was battling for first, out brake himself and go flying of the track into the grass. Gone was his last shot for an ameuter Championship. He was pretty upset about it, but he would have is glory some yaers later on the AMA podium.......That sums it up for my firts race weekend. The folowing year I went on to win 3 Reginal Ameuter Championships, and the year after won an expert race and finished 3rd in the WERA 600cc North florida Championship. Most guys would have qiut, after a weekend like my first. I'm glad I didn't.

Good stuff Amy! I once was selling a bike to a lady and who I thought was here Husband and ended up talking to them about my racing, I showed them my bikes and a couple of trophies and stuff I had done on my motorcycle. Three days later The man you I thought was her husband called me up and asked if he could come by the shop and talk to me. I'm thinking "oh great they hate the bike" So he shows up and asks if he we can sit in the office. Sure, Whats this all about I ask. He then Asks me if I know who Miss Patricia is? I said no just a nice lady that bought some cool bikes from me..... He Kinda laughed and said thats why we want to sponsor your racing..... What? Long story short The lady was Patricia Cornwell, if you dont know who that is google it. She gave me $5000 bucks and told my to have fun. It was something else. Alot of times getting sposors has more to do with your personality and how you carry yourself than what you have done on a motorcycle. I have always tried to down play the things I have done and it has served me well. Good luck Amy and Give them Hell.

Alright, we have had 2 race weekends and no updates. What's the deal? Some of us would like to know the goods here.I (Dan the man) just realized I'm on my wife's screen name but here is some info.
Nashville sucks donkey dicks!:nay:
I got 9th in B superbike, and 9th in B superstock.
Kenny got 4th and Trey got 1st in Formula 2.
Kenny got 4th and Trey got 2nd in Lightweight Solo 20's
Trey got 1st in Lightweight twins superstock.
Kenny got 4th in lightweight twins superbike.
Amy completed the riders school, and is ready for the races.
This weekend was Barber. This is a beautiful and challenging track. This is the kind of track we all dream of riding.
I got 9th in B superstock, and 7th (in the rain with DOT's) in B superbike. I finished ahead of a couple guys on rain tires, and others on DOT's did not even come out. There were about 7-8 Did Not Starts due to the guys not wanting to run in the rain.
Kenny and Trey both ran the Lightweight twins solo 20's. Trey led most of the race, and had an 8 second gap over Kenny in second. Kenny's clutch cable broke just after the start of the race, so he was just feeling his way thru the gears. With 1 1/2 laps left in the race, Trey ran out of gas, giving Kenny the lead. On the last lap, Kenny was passed, and with the faulty clutch cable, Kenny was unable to regain the lead. Kenny got 2nd, and Trey ended up 6th.
In Formula 2, Trey took the win with Kenny in 3rd.
In Lightweight superstock Trey ran in the rain with DOT's, and got an amazing 2nd place.
For Kenny's Lightweight superbike race, we put the rain tires on with minutes to spare. The work paid off with Kenny taking the win.
Amy ran the women's superstock race. She had a bad start, and was last in her group. She slowly worked her way past the other racers, and grabbed the 1st place victory.
Jason grabbed a 4th place finish in A superbike, a 6th in C superstock. Jason and I were on the grid, side by side for the B superstock race. I got a great start and was toward the front of the pack. Jason kept me in sight, but had to pass a few to catch up. In turn 2, jason attempted a pass, and the other guy checked-up. Jason tapped his brakes, and went down. He and the bike slid a short ways, but he was ok. The bike was unrideable, but can be easily repaired. Jason had minor scuffs on his leathers, but was perfectly fine.
I'm off to bed for a few hours before work.

Amazing weekend....
Dan is going to have to teach me his technique for starts. I did ok in the solo on Saturday, last to finish, but lots of guys didn't finish at all. I killed it on the start this time, but kept calm (thanks Kenny) and made it around a couple of people by the 2nd lap. Lap times were only getting better. I get my license in the next week or so :D
And let's not let Dan downplay it here. He finished the best out of everyone on DOT's in his race in the pouring rain. He has the best starts of anyone on the track. You did awesome buddy!!
And big congrats to Kenny and Trey for all their wins :hail:
Jason, it was fun! Maybe next time I'll be able to stick with you for more than half a turn ;)

Good weekend by all, I had a great time. My first race was the 600 solo 20 I started 28 out of 30 ended up 7th after 16 laps. And then was disqualified for forgeting my transponder LOL. Whatever Its was still fun. First race on sunday was the A superstock I was feeling pretty good about my chances in that race, during practice i was the second fastest out there. I got a shitty start due to my clutch acting weird and went in to tun one back in 14th. I worked my way to the front in about 3 laps at the top four were all bunched together, I tried my best to get around the third place guy but I made a few mistakes when I was right behind him so I ended up 4th.
Next Race was the c superstock, It was a two wave start with 28 riders and I was grided 27th so I had my work cut out for me. But Istill felt good about the race being that in the practices I was 4th quickest. I get a good start and when its all said and done I end up passing 18 guys and finish ninth not bad for a 6 lap race.
B superstock...... Well this was gonna be the race, I checked the laptimes and the grid and I was the second quickest out of the whole grid. so i was pumped if I could make quick work of the frist 10 guys I would be right there for a shot at the win. so I wanted to make some moves early. The start goes down I get around one guy only inches from the grass on the outside of the front straight, I was commeted to going in the grass if I had too. I go in to turn one and give up two spots I take them back on the entrance to 2 then pick up three more spots on the inside of t2 mid corner and am about to pick up a thrid when the kid on the bike in front of me starts tightning his line really early, I'm right on the inside of his hip, my front wheel is right under his back wheel. Oh shit I'm gonna hit this dude, so I tried to use the brakes while I'm at max leen and kapowee I'm on my butt. Shit happens atleast I didnt wreck the kid only myself. Looking back I should have just waited and picked up spots as the race went on but I really thought i had a shot at a win.... Still it was a great weekend.
Dan rode great and is improving with everyrace. The results are going to come soon I Know you will get a top 5 next race weekend. Amy good job keeping your cool and being safe and smooth. Kenny did awesome as well and it was just Like old times at the race track, All we needed was a up High Matt up High! LOL!

Barber is definately one to put on your list. :yeah:
Another note to the weekend, we were pitted next to Danny Eslick. For those that don't know, he is the #1 plate holder in AMA Daytona Sportbike. All I got to say is...cool dude. Very down to earth and seems like a normal guy...till you get on the track with him...then it's all business.:evillaugh: He came around me in the solo 20's race sliding it sideways into turn 4, all the way to the apex, then hit the gas, and took off like a shot. I kinda stuck with him for about half the track, then he was gone. After the Saturday races, he even went on a beer run for us. That right there took him from cool dude, to really cool dude.
I'm very tired, and dragging ass at work. Come on 4:30!
Thanks for making me feel better Amy. I will admit, I will cut some ass off the line. I just gotta get bigger elbowz to keep them behind me.

O.K. Went to Road Atlanta this weekend. Friday practice was $150  everyone got 2, 4 lap sessions before lunch, and 3 after lunch. Roughly 20 (if you are lucky) laps for $150. I did not do practice because I'm about broke. Saturday practice is only available for those who sign up for the solo races on Saturday. The solo races are 16 laps for $85. Additionally you get two 10 minute practice sessions.(about 4 laps each.)My best lap time of practice was 1:46.2
I got my usual good start, but slowly lost positions as the race went on. My best lap time of the race was 1:43.6 towards the end as I started to learn the track. I ended up 12th out of I think 18 or so.
On Sunday that particular track has to observe quiet time from 10am to noon all practice groups got a 15 minute session. (about 6 laps) My times were still around 1:44's. In the 750 superbike race, I was gridded up on pole position. My start was not as good as normal due to the guy on my left jumping the flag. He jumped, realized it, and checked up a little, killing my drive off the line. I lost some spots going into 1, but had a firm grip on 3rd. After a few laps, I was knocked back to 4th. With 3 laps remaining, I was passed again after I missed a downshift going up the hill into turn two. I followed the guy and saw where he was strong and weak. Just before the white flag came out, I passed him coming down the hill into turn 10a. I gave it everything I had, and held him off for 5th place. He was less than 1 second behind.
I also had the last race of the day, 750 superstock. I was gridded in 5th spot, and was in 3rd place going into turn 1. I held it for most of the first lap, but was pushed back to 5th. I ran most of the race in 5th but came upon an expert who had his hand up with engine trouble. He looked back and saw me and 6th place coming at him in a turn. He crossed the track going to the outside right in front of us. I slowed a little in the turn and #777 began to pass me on the outside. He passed a little too close, and my bar hit his tail section. I almost crashed, but saved it. I lost a lot of ground but slowly pulled back in. On the last lap, I made my move going down the hill in turn 10a. I out braked him into the turn, but he stayed tight on me, forcing me to clip the rumble strip. The front tucked, and I went for a short slide. The bike slid on one side, but I tumbled twice, end-over end. Ground, sky, ground sky.:crap: My last tumble ended with the back of my head slapping the ground. I got up quickly, and the corner workers helped me lift the bike. Bent the rear set slightly, and rotated the clip-on. I pulled in for mandatory tech inspection after going down, but they told me the race was over, and my last lap counted. The final sheet showed me as DNF, so I asked for a review of information, and was told my last lap will count, and I will get 12th place.:(
My head and neck are sore, but everything else is fine. I don't want to talk about Kenny, Amy or Trey, because I don't want to steal their thunder, or tell of their downfalls....like mine.:alright:
Next Southeast race is CMP :nay:
Next N. Florida race is Roebling :yeah:

Road Atlanta is a blast!! Such a fun track...
I did the Friday practice (not worth the money), and the solo on Saturday to learn the track and re-learn my '08.
If I could learn not to kill it on the start I might do ok, but I'm pretty happy with my 2nd place finish. I was only 1 second off of the fastest time of the girl that got 1st. Still lots and lots of room for improvement and glad I didn't crash :D

I made it out on Sunday to watch the gang. The thing that I noticed pretty quickly was that Trey and Kenny have a big old cross hair target on there back. All of the old Wera boys could not wait to beat up on them. One rider even told Trey that "It's Coming"! Trey replied ok, whatever? One guy told me that he was winning races until those two SC guy's started showing up. Believe it or not, the Lightweight race on Sunday was the most anticipated race of the weekend.
When the flag dropped Kenny got the holeshot to turn one with Trey behind. Trey then put a stupid dope pass that only Trey could get away without wrecking. Kenny put his head down and played follow the leader with a hater up in his behind. On the white flag lap the hater dude passes Kenny on the front straight with only 1 lap to go. I'm thinking, what the hell is Kenny doing? Well, Kenny decides to hide in the hater dudes ass for half a lap. Then he passes the hater with that KR showtime skill and beats the hater to the white stripe. The announcer said folks this was a World Class Show put on by Trey, Kenny , and Mr Hater dude. They finished the race at least a half a lap ahead of the 4th place finisher and the other twenty something racers. I had a blast watching watching all of the Chucktown gang kick ass. Congrads to Dan, Amy, KR and Trey.
