I think $135 is the member rate... Track Fees include the following according to STT's site:

Your Track Days Include:
· Maximum on-track time

· Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced rider sessions
· Experienced track coaches and instructors
· On track and classroom instruction
· Morning beverages, snacks, and fresh fruit
· Water and sports-drinks throughout the day
· Photographer at most events
· On-site EMS and professional corner staff
· At track tire sales and service
· On site suspension and bike set up assistance

Looks like it's $35 for the year to become a STT member. Not too shabby as long as you go to a few of their events.

If you have a trailer and I can hitch a ride I have a friend and a cousin that live up in Columbia. I'm looking to do both track days.

Otherwise I'll trailer the bike by myself with a open trailer I have. Wayne has to move to Florida for awhile and logistically it won't make since for us to trailer our bikes up together.

Our friend Greg that is going is only interested in staying for the 24th.

Let me know and I'll put the calls into Columbia to arrange for a place to crash.

Awesome... I just might do that. Especially if I ride up there solo. I guess my buddy Wayne might join me as he'll be coming up separate from FL.

How late can you arrive to camp out? Is it in the in-field or do they have a separate camp area? Some tracks if you arrive after they close you can't get in.

At the earliest I'll probably arrive around 7 or 8pm.

Its pretty much in the infield from what I saw. You don't drive across the track like at RRR. Last Nov. the STT guys fried turkeys and were living in their motorhomes, pretty pimp set up. I would give the track a call and check with them on how late the gate is open. Real friendly folks up there, not a whole lot going on in Kershaw, a pizza place, typical real small southern town. The motel we stayed in was decent enough.

Anyone find any good track vids of CMP to study? I want to start mentally preparing for the track day. I'm hoping to truly dial in my suspension this time, and give me more confidence with my bike in the turns. Therefore I can progress more.

At RRR I went up one click on the front rebound damper and up one click in the rear damper. These settings seemed to give me more confidence on my last sessions with entry into the turns and mid corner turning. Just wish I had more sessions left that day to continue progressing.

These are some recommended suspension settings I might try with my bike at CMP as a new starting point:
MotorcycleIssuefront preloadfront rebound dampingfront comp. dampingrear preloadrear rebound dampingrear comp. dampingYZF-R1 ('07)3/075 lines showing8 clicks out from full stiff7 clicks out from full stiffPosition 7 of 97 clicks out from full stiffHigh speed: 2 turns out from full stiff; Low speed 8 turns out from full stiffNote:Set ride height to 4mm from top of fork tube to top of triple clamp.[/URL]

I'm considering lowering the tripple clamp and then backing off the preload but I'll need help with that. So I'll be utilizing STT for that. My last bike (98 FZR600R) was setup with the clamp lowered. I felt more confident on the street with that bike but the foot pegs were low on it and I would drag a tow quite often on tight turns. Never got the chance to take it on the track.

I haven't set the static sag and rider sag yet to my weight but it seems fine with the current settings. I haven't noticed the suspension bottoming out or having too much travel.

These links I found were very helpful:

Yea, I always ride within my limit. But as long as I feel confident on my bike I tend to progress. My only wish is that the sessions at RRR lasted longer! But with 4 groups kinda hard to do.

Initially I would loose confidence in my bike when I felt like the front or rear was slipping. After going up one click in the front and back on the rebound the bike felt more solid. My last run I felt pretty solid, but I still doubt that my suspension is dialed in correctly. Especially since I recall hearing that soft is fast in the turns, but I suspect they meant the compression not the rebound.

it will not be hard to keep up with me... I am slow and working on suspension stuff myself. My thing is going to be the lines. I can't remember the track since it has been 10 years since my last visit there. New tires and a newly dialed suspension should be fun.

Yea I saw the forecast... I really hope it doesn't rain. What do they usually do. Let us go out on the track as long as it's not actively raining and no standing water?

Or do they shut it down till it dries out? My hopes is a rain check. I know there's no refunds but if we can't ride due to weather that shouldn't be our fault either.

If STT or the riders knew in advance that the track was going to be wet they probably wouldn't sign up. Therefore CMP wouldn't be able to rent the track out. At least not for motorcycles.

I really don't feel ready for a wet track.

http://www.sportbiketracktime.biz/Corporategroup.aspx

Weather Policy: All Sportbike Track Time venues have a "rain-or-shine policy". The track facility may call rain days and you must be present to receive a voucher. Rain-check vouchers are non-transferable and expire 12 months from date of issue. In the extremely unlikely event that management at a venue calls the day prior to any on-track activity due to the track being deemed "non-ridable", a make up date may be issued for a future date of the venues choosing. This date will be the sole remedy and Sportbike Track Time will issue no refunds/credits for future events. An event voucher will be issued to all riders scheduled for the event. This voucher may be transferred to another current STT member of the same skill level group if desired.

There was a couple of really fast guys in the advanced group. One guy was on a gixxer and his leathers had the name Snaders on the back. He was the fastes by far.

Yea I was there saturday... wet in the morning. I liked having an instructor but the groups were paired up poorly. Some initial skills assesments should be taken first.

The result was a lot of bunching up and confusion on the track. It presented a lot of dangers with the passing rules. Later in the afternoon when we were allowed to do our own thing or stick with our instructors it felt more comfortable and less bunched up. People naturually fell into place with others in the same skill realm.

Unfortunately though I laid my bike down in turn 5 due to crowding.

I was following the pack on lap one (cold tires) and then it got too crowded coming out of turn 4 leading into turn 5. My reaction was to roll off the throttle and swing wider, but wound up going inside on a very aggressive line/path, broke loose on the rear and low sided.

I'm fine and the bike runs fine. Frame sliders did a good job minimizing the damage. Mostly cosmetic damage to lower and mid right cowling. Rear brake level broke and some of the engine casing is scraped. (Know any good deals for cowling and parts?)

On the bright side I got some good technique for getting off the bike in turns, and I unintentionally managed to drag my right knee a few times in Turn 12 (13 was blocked off so it was the broader version of 12).

I think I'll be looking into a dedicated track bike for trackdays. This way I'll always have a bike for the street.

I didn't see any CJ guys there on Saturday. At least that I could tell when I walked around the paddock and asked around if anyone knew about CJ.

On another note I was surprised to see a lot of older 60+ guys riding sportbikes in the intermediate group. These guys would tear me a new one on the track. Guess they aren't scared of breaking a hip or anything. I was thoroughly impressed that these guys are out there and have the strength and dexterity to hang off the bikes and drag knees.

What I mean by wild west is once the classroom related sessions are over your entirely on your own. They didn't exercise near enough control over the novice group and I think a few of those riders could have easily been moved to intermediate.

Thank you for the welcome folks, This is a great site. I have been doing some Autocrossing in my Miata too so I found it through cars and bikes. Love bikes, like cars...

LoneDuc, I saw you on that bike, man what a machine! Likely one of the best Ducati track bikes going. I was out there on my black and white 999 (said FF on the fairing) I also rode my wifes 900 CR last session Saturday and first two wet sessions on Sunday morning.

Both days were really full, I think we had a total of 40 some bikes in Novice on Saturday. Intermediate was also full so moving people was not easy. I agree with your assessment of some of the riders being easy Intermediate group riders. I rode with 4 guys who requested to ride with me Saturday and they were FAST. They did get a bump up after Saturday. Sunday, a lot of the two day riders found their groove and were rolling. Sunday was the better day with regard to clear track it seems.

There always seems to be a disparity between riders in Novice in that some are old like me and like to stay relaxed some are young and ready to go, just need to figure it out. When there are few crashes and everyone can have fun, that makes the day. The whole weekend was like that.

After the official class room stuff is over, take advantage of the instructors, it is easy to get a lot of good one-on-one time. After being scared from a slide in the morning wet, a gal I rode with felt herself get her Mojo back after a full session of one-on-one. There are people who like to sign up in novice every time, just to take advantage of the instruction and more controlled environment.

I wish I could have met some of you guys. I hope to meet up next time. I do plan to be at Barber later in May with STT.

Carolinamoto, happy to share the garage! I've been wondering where all the sportbike riders are in Columbia!
Lone Duc, it was nice to meet you and I hope you had a good time at the track. Remember to check those tire pressures every time you head out on the track. ;)

Cool! We have one of our sponsored guys racing CCS on a Ducati SuperSport (Novice plate) who has wone 6 for 6 right now, first win was at Daytona with the new bike.

I do an occasional race with AHRMA with the other old guys like me. It's been 2 years since the last though.
