I am new to the forum and will be attending my first track day with STT at TGP on the Memorial Day weekend. I am not new to bikes--been riding since I was a kid, and I ride pretty much everyday year round. I have been wanting to get on the track for years, but for some reason or another it never happened. I am really excited about finally getting the opportunity to make it happen. Just wondering if anyone here is going or if anybody had some input on the track or trackday advice in general. I am trying to make the most out of it since I may be able to do only two days this year. Thanks.

welcome. The best way to get input is attend a few track days rather than one. You will see several listed on this site and we do alot at Roebling Road Raceway in Savannah. Common out and there will be tons of people to help. STT are fun but they are packed. Corner Junkie Days are about 30-35 people and you get alot more track time. Plus there is alot more people to help than just one guy per 7 or 8 riders. Nothing against STT, but its a little more laid back on Kenny's CJ days.

I agree... STT will be a good start though as they have a good program for Novice riders to step them up and adjust them to the track. Good guidance and structure.
But yes, often very crowded on the track. Faster groups will bunch up behind slower groups. Very frustrating and can cause some sporadic reactions amongst group members. I'm guilty of follow another rider from my group passing another group in a shallow broad turn on the inside. More of a straight than a turn but still got scoffed at for it. At the time I wasn't sure what to do, but was going with the flow.
I always got uncomfortable around riders I didn't when it was bunched up. Particularly given the number of bikes.
Once they allowed free reign for Novice riders on the second half of the day it felt safer as natural paces set in and groups within similar skill levels naturally paired up. You were allowed to either continue riding with your or any of the instructors or just practice the track.
But at Kenny's track days it's much more open even when I attended and there were 4 groups instead of 3 (2 expert groups) I still got more track time and felt safer due to less riders on the track.

Thanks for the info. So my next question would be...how do I get in on RRR?!

Tally GP is a fun little track. It's a little tight, but fun still. If you are running stock gears, don't expect to make it past 4th down the back strech. Ride within you limits, and you will be just fine.

Is the track mostly 1st and 2nd gear corners?

Really too many variables to say exactly. Bike type, skill level, gearing, etc. will all play a part in what gear you use in the corners. It is a fast track though so 1st and 2nd gear in the corners is very unlikely.

On a stock bike with stock gearing, you will be in 2nd, 3rd and 4th in mainly 3rd thru most of the course.
