So I was just sitting in the helicopter looking out into the endless view of dirt and small mountains near Kunduz, thinking about my last weeekend in the states. Barber motorsports has got to be one of the best places to ride in the country. And the racing there is really fun lots of places to pass and very wide. Well atleast I thought it was pretty wide.... Thats when I thought about the crash I had. It was in the first 20 seconds of the race when everyone is packed into each turn like sardines. I really dont like the first part of a race.... Mostly because there isn't qualifing so you get a bunch of guys that are 4 to 5 seconds slower than you going into the first turn and parking there shit causing a traffic jam then...... Kapweeee. Wreck city. Makes me not want to race, but I love competion. I actualy have the most fun at the races during practice. And I love going back and checking the scoring sheets after my sessions. And that brings me to my point of all this.

What if they had a race that was all about the fastest laptimes, kind of like superpole they could let each rider out 5 to 10 seconds apart and make the overall time 20mins the rider with the fastest time wins and the rest fall in acordingly, you could also reward the rider with the most consistant times.... This would surley cut down on the chances of rider on rider crashes and seems like it would be good fun.

I would do it if there was an organization that had this, I love racing but sometimes feel like its to risky. Your thoughts.......

A lot of the excitement in watching racing comes from direct, head-to-head competition. The tight passes. Riders doing 160, inches apart. Watching someone reel in their rival. For some it's even the crashes. It's the fans that make big races possible, so without them... it's Elgin, or the bingo parking lot by Wings...

As far as a FIM, AMA, Moto gp type organization yeah its about the fans and "the Show" but I'm talking about club events. How many fans go to WERA and CCS events................... Maybe about 10 per race:lol: Hell at Roebling you have to say you are pit crew just to get in... No this is for the club level guy that wants to go fast, but dosn't just want to do trackdays....... I have done more trackdays than pretty much everyone on here. And while trackdays are cool its still not a competition.

The problem with just running laps at a trackday is that even in the expert group there are people running 10 seconds slower than others. This is especially true of days at jennings and STT or Nesba days. Frank Kensy is the only TD guy I have ever rode with that even asks what type of lap times you run.. Not the fake "I think I was running ones" ... Maybe at Trackdays they should have a "Racer" group for guys how are trying to get up to race pace.......

Jason... I hate to say this, but that is what I consider Expert group. I may be wrong, but I look upon those guys with yellow plates or white plates and learn from them and the lines and entrance and exit speeds to see where I need to imporve. Not only that I lets me take advantage of passing on both sides (Unlike some organizations or groups), and learn from ppl who are actually doing it and using the trackday as practice. I know I have farther to go, but I want to ride with the expert/racers. And it also a time when someone who is really fast but doesnt race can go out there with the racers and have fun at there speeds.

I can see where Jason is coming from. Not all the people out there running in expert are capable of running a "race pace". I've been contemplating moving to the expert class for Kenny's track day. I can run a :23 all day long there and I know if I step up to the big boy group that it will help me go a little faster. But you will always have someone out there running a :16 or :17 and that 6-7 second closing time is FAST! I really don't want to be "that guy" so I've stayed in the intermediate group.

I do think that there should be some proof on whether or not someone can run the expert group or not. I have seem some people go out there that shouldn't be there.

YOu hit the nail on the head, I also see were GTO4mustang is coming from. When there is a 6-7 second gap and you are going into turn one at RRR, and 2 or 3 guys are just chillin down there its a bit scetchy, Also nothing sucks more than having to check up in the middle of a good lap. I never make aggresive passes at trackdays. I almost always wait until the straightaways or a spot were I can do it really quickly. And that sometimes adds to my frustrations. But its better than wrecking somebody. I also try really hard not to complain about this at the track because after all its not a race its a trackday. And complaining about that is ultra duechey.

I stil would like to see a scored Superpole type event I think it would be fun and may even be a good starting place for newer racers...

Yellow snow cones are not delicious!:lmao:

The super pole idea is good. I would like to see it, but I also still like the racing too. Some guys prevail under the race pressure.

The time split in expert group can be a problem. I know you yourself have flew past me at RRR, and I'm only a few secs slower than you. But like you said... it's a trackday and only ego trophies and jack N cokes are handed out afterwards... I love me some ego trophoes and Jack n Cokes....:evillaugh:

As do I brother. I think any race Org could add it to there Race shcedule. You could run it as a run what you brung, Expert and a Novice class. If anything it would just be another event to make more money off of.....

Jason, I think you should start your own org with all that desert money. This could be the premier event. And all riders must wear thongs...

The amount of time it would take would be crazy, but a cool idea.

last year, superpole took forever, but it was cool to kick back and watch. But CCS, WERA has a much more packed weekend schedule. Still could be cool, specially the whole "run what you brought" idea:yeah:

I wonder how much it is to rent those transponders? we could do it at a trackday and no one would notice:evillaugh:. If there was only ten bikes in the session. If we couldn't get transponders we could us individule people taking lap times and then pool them togther at the end. Also you could make each rider pull a "timers" name out of a hat. That way it would be fair...... I would feel bad for whom ever got emily, she shows no love on the stop watch:lol:
