Does anybody know what tire pressure you should run on the track for a CBR1000? The bike currently has the factory tires on it. It was running 35 in the front and 46 in the rear. I took 6 pounds out of the front and 17 pounds out of the rear. The rider is new to the track, so he's running in the novice group. Please take that into account for your answer if at all possible.

If he is running street tires, follow the manufacturers recommendations. The proper inflation of street tires can normally be found on the sidewall of the tire. I would also venture to say that if these tires were run for any length of time at the overinflated values you posted, they may have wear issues that can cause chattering or wobbles at high speed. I would guess the pressures to be around 30-35 in the front and 28-32 in the rear. Inflate them to the proper manufacturer levels, and run your hand over the surface. If you feel any unevenness, I would not recommend using them at a trackday.

Dans right... Just as I told you at the track its sorta like a feeling thing too. Slosir told me once to go way down on what I thought was a good track day psi with tire warmers on( 23 rear 21 front warm). I did not listen and ended up cooking a tire. When I was with you at cmp I actually did what he said and I have enough tire left to play maybe 2 more track days. Its kinda cool also getting to know the feeling of the bike as you change small things like this. I am learning from all these guys and gals too. I am really greatfull that we have so many people around this site that are cool about helping. Thank you, and I will do whatever I can to help you out.

They looked pretty worn out by day's end. I believe he won't be using them again. In fact, he's switching to a more track oriented tire.

I wish I could. I went to CMP on the 17th as it's closer and I'm already taking off the 28th of that week. It'd have been a hard sell. I do plan to make a CJ trackday though.

Anyone have good baseline pressures for the new Q2's for track use?

Honestly you would be fine with 30 in the front 29 rear on a street tire. But if you are going to be at the track 1 or 2 times a month it would be wise to buy some race tires. Just change them out as needed.

Check to make sure whether that's hot/cold. I believe Dunlop is the one manufacturer that recommends hot pressures, not cold.
