Well I cancelled my long distince trip on the warrior because of the crappy weather on Friday and Sat. So I was looking forward to riding with the group, since I have not been around in the past 6 weeks or so. Also I knew that Dave would be there with his new repsol replica cbr 1000. Now Dave hasn't ridden with the group in years. Even before he sold his bike he stopped because of his concern that so of the riders were just careless and made stupid mistakes. People were getting hurt, and it's sad to say, someone even got killed. So we finally say as a group, you know what, were going to continue to ride, weather we call ourselves a group or not. It's going to happen. So if were going to ride, what can we do to make it safe. Well, to make a long story short, we did it. This forum where we dicuss rules when riding with the group, and general safety items.

Well on Sunday all of this went down the drain I guess. We actually had a great ride and with no incidents to speak of, until we were on the way home. We ended up in McClellanville right on hwy 17. So were headed back into town, doing about the speed limit. Well, I'll just call the guy J because I forgot his name. Anyway Alan tells me that all of a sudden he just hops up on the seat of his bike and decides to try and do a Christ stunt. Thats the one where you stand on the seat and hold your arms out. So J decides that on BIKE WEEKEND to ride down hwy 17 and to practice his Christ stunts for whatever reason. Why, only he knows! Anyway, Alan says that he falls off the bike at about 55 mph and rolls about 3 or 4 times and hops right up. Now Dave and I were behind so we pull up and see about 15 or more locals standing around laughing and pointing at an R6 upside down in the ditch. The locals then proceeded to help J pull his bike out of the ditch. J then hops on the bike with his torn and very ragged shirt. He try's to ride his bike down a nearby dirt road with the throttle pinned. Well you can imagine what happened. Correct, he dumped the bike again. Boy were the locals having fun laughing at this. I must admit that I did have to laugh at this myself. Who would try to ride a motorcycle down a dirt road at a high speed? Anyway, after bouncing and sliding down the dirt road, he got back on and rode his bike to one of the locals property to hide from the law. (Now I've never attemped to do a Christ stunt, because I see no purpose in doing it. But, I do know that you don't do a Christ on a windy day at 55 mph.)

Chris has since talked to J. He said that he is ok, which I am glad to here. However, I do question why did this happen and was it necessary? I don't know if J is on this forum or not, but it is clear that he didn't read our rules for riding with the group. I understand that I cannot prevent all accident form happening, but this one was just plain ole fashioned stupid. It draws more negative attention to the group again.

What can we do as a group to prevent things like this from happening?
Is riding safely as a group with other sportbikers in Charleston possible?

I wonder how much a twice in one day wrecked R6 goes for? I would like to say I wasn't there so it isn't me,but don't do stunts out on busy roads or near housing developments. Thats why we ride in the woods, if you want to stunt do it there so if you do fall only the group can laugh at you after we make sure you are alright and not locals.

Yes this person is on the forum and he did post today. I'll let him give his name if he wants too. I'm not trying to call him out to embarrass him but to point out want a mistake he made. I didn't actually see the accident but when Barry and I got there, there were about 9 or 10 kids at the scene. Now for one, Barry and I weren't that far behind the accident so with all the people standing around I'm assuming that his bike could have hit a child. That's where I have a problem. If you want to risk the possibilities of crashing back in the woods...then more power to you but when you do this on a busy highway in front of a 'crowd' then it's just plain stupid. He must have been trying to impress the 'crowd' because none of us could care less how many stunts he does, as long as he does it out of town. Hell, I've ridden for almost 15 years and as most of you know I've never even tried a wheelie! Wheelies are pretty cool, always have been, but it's not for me. All the other stunts are just plain boring and we've all seen them!

I was pretty aggravated at the whole stunt crash and once I saw he wasn't injured (don't get me wrong...I'm glad he's ok), I left. No way in hell was I going to take my new bike down a sandy road and help this guy get home, not when something so senseless like this just happened. The only thing this will eventually do is force all the experienced riders to not ride with this group. I'm for one up for it now, but it is hard to get everyone organized every week. Anyway, hope this guy learned his lesson.

The name is Brandon. Yea, it was stupid. Although I appreciate the numerous offers i've gotten from some through the grapevine to buy my bike... it's not for sale. There wasn't a visible crowd on the side of the street and a crowd wouldn't motivate me to do it. They came running out after I fell. Should I have done it there? no maybe not but I did. A harmless trick gone wrong. Too comfortable doing it obviously and didn't realize that was too fast. It was more like 40-45 when I got up on it, still too fast I got up and wind came from about 2 o clock and just took me with it. I dont ride to impress anyone, I ride for myself. I didn't do that to impress anyone. Seemed like a clear spot on a wide road to do it with no cops in sight and no trees to split. As for hiding from the law, I didn't have my registration or insurance card with me and didn't feel like going to jail. That and being a little disoriented. I will be the first to admit that i'm not the best nor even close to a seasoned rider. I acknowledge it was dumb and there was a lesson learned dont worry. I'm sure i'm not the only person that has done something dumb on a bike. Thanks for the criticism i'll consider it constructive and ride on.

I'm just glad that your alive. I'm also glad that your on this forum, so I hope that you'll go back and read two topic that were posted. One is called Crash and Burn and the other is called The Tree.

A harmless trick gone wrong is one that could have easily killed an innocent bystander or yourself. Remember when we were on hwy 41 near no where or several other places. That would have been the perfect opportunity for you to show us your stuff. Hell I'd love to see it. If you would have crashed there you would have only endangered yourself. Trust me, you wouldn't have gone to jail for no registration or insurance cards. They have all of that stuff in the computers now adays. However, you do know that it is a FELONY to run and hide from a police officer, right? No, your not the first to do something dumb on a bike and have a accident, but your the 2nd one this month. So we must stop it, or someone else will end up seriously injured or killed. Myself and several other veteran riders can write a book on the numerous dumb, stupid, or reckless things that we have done on a bike. A lot of them ended up in accidents. You can learn from our mistakes and not go down that road. Trust me, riding a bike can change your life for the worse in a matter of minutes. Make the right decisions. This is not a bash Brandon session, I just want to make sure that you learn from your mistake. Threre are a lot of professional folks that ride with the group. So this kind of attention isn't something that is desired. As you know, sportbikers already get a bad enough rap. So get your bike fixed and we hope to see you out again soon.

Glad you're getting back on your bike. Don't mind me, I've never had a soft spot for all the stunters. Looks like you learned your lesson, see ya soon!
