should i be pissed about this or not?

ok, long story short.
bike craps motor due to honda defect.
I know the ONLY resolution is a new motor from honda.
decide to take bike to orangeburg due to their reputation.
situation is explained to them. they KNOW they need to contact honda before they can even do anything.
they get bike, i wait a few days.
no call..so i call them, they say its "in line"
i wait a few more days. still in line, but im "next" i ask what i can do to speed things up..THEY suggest I call honda.
I call honda.
from that point on, with American Hondas help I get stuff rolling.
Orangeburg doesnt know this, but whatever.
im fine with all this. im getting a new motor, and i wait paitently.
they get motor. I KNOW when they get it. i wait a few days.
I call, they say the motor "should be there today" (a lie)
few days later, i get a call saying they need exhaust gaskets. so i wait another week.

IM still not pissed. new motor great. lil time with no bike in great weather, but whatever.

they call me wednesday morning and say they're missing some fairing bolts. they try to blame the other shop that they got the bike from, but thats ME. i KNOW they are not missing.
I call at 5pm that evening... the fairing bolt issue is not resolved.. WHAT THE FUCK?! now im pissed. I am NOT waiting on some fucking bolts to get my bike back.
I bitch the owner out a bit, and get my shop to call and check on them. I call American Honda to do the same.. to get the damn pressure on. I WANT MY BIKE BACK NOW. I find out thru american honda that my local shop (my friend) offered to pay for the stupid bolts... dammit, so they still didnt take responsibilty.... ugh.
bike gets here today... i goto pick it up..

i get there, almost giddy.... and fuck. now, im really pissed.
clutch cable is routed over the gauge cluster and THRU the ram air hole in the frame. the fairing bolts are all in the wrong places (shouldered black lower bolt in rear mid, chrome mid near chain, the critical front mid to nose bolt is what they decided to leave out, etc...)

but I look at it and know.. if the fucktard routed the WAAAY obvious clutch cable incorrectly.. i cant trust any part of their motor install.
fuck.
so instead of riding it... I will be taking my whole bike apart this weekend to re-check the torque of the bolts, and the routing of the wiring. fuck.

so im really pissed. i call them up, and the guy says hes just fucking done with dealing with me, and not to call back.

should I be so pissed about them doing a fucktard install? I have people telling me I should be happy i got a new motor.. but i dont feel that way.. i know damn well the motor would go for a long fucking time.. i didnt want a new motor, i NEEDED one. I would lawyer up if i had to to get one. thats not the issue... Im pissed because i believe i had a fucktard install the engine.

heres some pics of the clutch cable.. would YOU trust an engine install if your bike came back with this routing?

Resize them damn things!

I would be pissed. It shouldn't matter if Honda was paying for the motor or not. Now to make sure the bike is right and safe to ride you gotta take the thing apart.

Sucks, I had yet to hear about any bad experiences there like you hear about some of the other shops.

Oh. And the seat is cracked.....
I have no idea how the seat got cracked, but that's not my seat.

I have 43,000+ miles on MY seat. It has the lines from my jeans pressed into it. It has a line from a ratchet strap pressed into it. Its softer then stock from my ass where I sit.

This seat has none of that, and its cracked on the top.

I wouldn't have taken the bike back, and I wouldn't work on it either, because once you start, whatever you find, whatever breaks, etc., is on you. F that.

Orangeburg did it... brought it back to wideopen.... I didn't know until after work when I went to get it.

Fuck it, the rest of the bike isn't warranty anyway.... I'm just going to fix it, and steal a seat from o burg next time I'm there. Fuck george.

so lastnight i tore the bike apart..
re routed the clutch cable....i fixed the threads for the tank cover mount (they shoved the seat phillips screws in it)... i had to add water since it was low, tank empty, with the cap off... but i need to drain it and add actual coolant/antifreeze to the system, since it looks like straight water.... of course every well nut is torn now, and some of the rubber gromments are torn... routed the wires properly behind the inner plastics so i could turn lock to lock.... i think she'll be just fine, but the i smell gas after i parked her... dont smell it this morning so im hoping it was just a vapor line. I looked under the bike where the vapor/overflow line should be.. not there, so im just going to assume its pinched under the tank.

anyway with all that done... shes really nice now.. its like a new bike. trans is a little notchy, but that will wear in just fine, and it will smooth out once i change the oil to T6.
engine is MUCH quieter. valvetrain on the 2010s is quieter then the 08/09s and you can tell.. only thing i hear is a slight injector tick, and the now very quiet exhaust.
I haven opened her up yet.. wet roads lastnight... but shes very smooth and the power is still there.. lol.

+1. So much for "certified" mechanics. Certified just means you can read, write and can pass a test. If your hearts not into it your just another grease monkey.

That really sucks. I have known most of those guys for years and this does not fit the norm. I want to get Jay the manager on the forum to read this. Any concerns? Just an idea. If it helps you it could be worth it...

Or is he who you delt with?

hope everything works out for you.

george is the one i delt with mostly.
i dont care if he reads this, but theres not much he can do now, unless he wants to send me a new seat.

You had the opposite deal that I had. I had a good mechanic trying to do the right thing and a factory telling him no. Shad went thru the ringer with my bike only to be told to go away by Ducati.

At least he tried to do the right thing.

I can't say I've had the best luck with Orangeburg. They replaced my ignition lock under warranty, but couldn't replace the other locks, so now I'm stuck with two keys, and screwed if I lose either. They replaced the ECU, but ever since then, the throttle-off response has sucked (basically, it's on/off, and is so sudden that it almost feels like hitting the brakes; with >70K miles on FJRs, I can say that's not right). The last time the bike was there, it came back with several fasteners missing. Meh...

What you folks need to realize is the level of any type of service received in Oraneburg is always gonna be lower. The work force is rural South Carolina isn't always the best. I once heard the farmer with the most land in Orangeburg say he had a hard time finding anyone to drive one of his air conditioned combine's cause most folks in that town are too lazy to work.
Kinda like the mechanics at Orangeburg Honda. :lmao:
