View Full Version : TOY Drive/poker run
Ok. this will be the offical area to chime in on the ideas of a toy drive and or poker run. or getting sportbikers into a parade for the holidays
Here are my feelings on this. If it is a parade then yes just sport bikers is fine. But if we do a toy drive or poker run it needs to be open to all bikers.

I say toy run. I hate the mayor of Charleston so that will keep me away.
OR!!!!!!!
http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=879245317
HAHAHAHA that will do for me randy
For real though. Screw little joe the nazi mayor. We can deal wiht him at another date and time.. for now we got to get us some toys to play with..lol
I am looking at this as more than just a sport biker thing. It can be a sportbiker set up thing that brings everyone out. Look at it like this. Hooters is always up for big events like this.. and bikers love some hooters???? and they got plenty or parking. Get something started in Mt.P maybe?? someone talk to kenny maybe he can help out in that area of town? Cruz over the bridge into North Charleston to maybe the Harley Shop? then off to 61 and into Summerville to maybe Volicity?? then down I26 too Hooters? Burns maybe you could chat with Kevin abotu bringing the race trailer out for people to check out?
If we get ahold of live 5 news and do this with there toy drive we can get somef ree tv time out of this as well guys?? kinda help the sportbikers image in town... Along with some radio stations.. There is my idea I have seen the harley guys come out for big toy runs. I have heard numbers well over 500 bikes... Im sure we get sportbikers and cruzers up at the same drive we can have over 800.. what you guys think??

A few people here need to be brought up to speed. So here goes. Last year we were not able to discuss everything in a forum to figure out what we wanted to do as a group. So we met together and decided on a parade / toy drive. Last year I came out with this idea way to late, however we did do something to give back to the community, and this is what this is all about. Giving back to the community and giving a positive impression of sport bikers.
This year let’s start something to bring the entire sport biking community together. That's why I'm excited and interested in the Parade / Toy drive. This would be something fun that we could do as a group. We could ride our sport bikes, race bikes, dirt bikes, etc. On top of that we could even decorate our bikes with Xmas stuff. Or maybe even have a prize as the best decorated motorcycle. Now of course this is open to all bikers, however we are really trying to get all of the local sport bikers involved. So that means we need to get a plan, and start giving out info as soon as we can. We must give all of the group’s ample time to plan to be involved in this. Another thing we need to get the local bike shops opportunity and reason to want to be involved. They need and want a 100% positive showing if they are going to put any $ to this event. There is a lot that we can do and we have enough time to do it, we just need to start ASAP. I'll throw a date, place and time out and we can go from there. Next Thursday October, 26th 7:00 PM, at the Fire House Restaurant in West Ashley. We need to have as much input as possible to make whatever we decide to do as a group enjoyable for everyone. So please show up if you can with positive ideas. This is a tenative date time and place, so if something else is better or another time is better, put it out there.
How about monday night? The sooner the better.
Just my opion.. but im sure no law enforcement in the area is going to have a lot to say if a few race bikes are on the street for a afternoon toy drive.
and what abotu 2 events? A parade for just sportbikers. Thne a toy drive put together by sportbikers for all bikers to join in on? I know some of you want a all sportbikers thing.. but im looking at it as in what will bring in more toys and bikes. There for not only get the comunity aware of us as sportbikers but will see all bikers in a new light.

It's a parade! You can ride your lawn mower, tricycle, scooter, go cart, tractor, four wheeler, dirt bike, etc. in a parade man. Obviously it doesn't have to be dot for a parade. We already have an experienced person in the group to handle organizing the parade. We just need to convince her to do it again. Kat did a wonderful job setting this up for us last year. Kat is a professional that is very well spoken and talented.
All bikers are welcome and open to join us, bring as many as you can. However we are sport bikers, and my goal is to show the community that sport bikers are productive caring citizens of the area. The Harley riders have the great, great toys for tots run where you will see one sport bike for ever 1 thousand Harleys.
Chad I know you didn't know this but Hooters is kinda or our shit list, and it's not because of the lousy food and less than tolerable service. Also, Monday is usually a tough day to schedule an event. After the weekend for most people Monday's are usually busy, long and tiring.
When you say parade? You mean like were going to enter a parade or were going to do are own parade?
and damn what you guys do to hooters?? someone grab a nip??? lol

You didn't have to butter me up, Barry. All you had to do was ask. I'm in. Keith, can we get together about a banner?
didnt we get the shaft last year by the downtown people? anyone remember? "only 10 bikes" i say we do the summerville one! much nicer people

Since I will not be there for a sit down on thursday.
1.) It would be nice to have a pickup truck follow behind the riders just incase someone breaks down or something else happens.
2.)Have a set time when the ride leaves. Not an hour or so later waiting for a certin person to get there.
3.)On the flyer made if one is let the riders know to show up fueled up and ready to ride. No group fuel stop.
4.)Check dates of other rides to try and avoid one the same day as another.
5.)Rain date?
6.) have a set route and stick with it.
7.) Do we need to check on maybe having a few motorcycle cops riding with us to stop traffic and help us have a safe ride.
May have more later
Randy just said my worst fear..."10 bikes" Sorry to remind everyon ebut sportbikers in the Charleston area are some of the winniest me me me group of people I have ever met. Most of the tree group is pretty cool. But in a whole??? man you cant get sportbikers to show up for anything. THne when you do theres guys that want to do wheelies ever where and then theres the over reving group of retards then the ohh ohh I got to do a burn out cause im cool group...
Dont get me wrong a all sportbike thing would be cool. But I realy dont see anymore than 30 bikes at the most. I really dont know why people on sport bikes have to act like this.. But they do. Maybe of more people went the route I did 6 years ago the might learn to ride a whole different way
But hey if you guys want to do an ALL sportbike event and leave out the crusier bikes that would bring in a whole lot more for the "KIDS" than just sportbikes then fine im in. Im here to help the scene. Even if I have my own feelings about it.

It does not matter to me who shows up on what bike, just as long as it is a bike, they don't act stupid ( like many sportriders do for some reason ) and they bring a toy or more to join the ride.
May not hurt to have it to where you bring a toy or pay 10 bucks. that way the toys or money go to the group we pick to help out.
ohh yea i can get 50+ bikes there if i have enough notice. dont think i have lost my touch. I just need to know do we want a ride or a parade?

Sir, do go back to the top and reread Mr. Barry's and Mr. Chad's post.
:wtg: way to go randy =D> =D>
And randy..50 bikes  we got to do better than that. Cruisers come out with hundreds of bikers. What is wrong with sportbikers? If we cant do anybetter then 100 too 200 bikes we need to open it up to any kinda bike.

What Randy means is that we couldn't get into the Charleston Parade last year if we had over 10 bikes. Will this be the case this year? We don't know yet, but we will find out. Charleston has the largest parade in the area, Summerville will be a good alternative if we cannot do Charleston.
I dont car if they show up on big wheels lol
Thats cool i will be there. ALL i ask is when we have this all hammered out that i get at least 1 month notice. then i can bring the troops out of the wood work.
Let me put in my info on the summerville one. this way i dont beat a dead horse. When i did the car club thing we entered the summerville parade. it was awsome. we got to peg little kids with candy and go wild. It was great! had a blast! would like to do it again. however if you can make the down town thing happen cool! I can also bring my f-250 and my 16ft open trailer. put some bikes on it let the chicks put decorations on it and shit. I also have a Klidsdale horse i can bring. Yes i said a horse. she's a big baby though.
A horse  Randys a funny guy... I say we do whatever and make everybory from KWS come out on pocketrockets..
Oh by the way..... the toys for tots thing is Nov 19th... mybe we as the sportbike comunity could show up there in force as well?? show that we care??? yad yad yad. I mean theres a lot of whos who at that one and well I could not hurt are image any
yea i went to the toys for tot's ride last year. it was cool. FUEL up before you go!!! its a ride! btw if we do that then we need to meet up at a predetermined location and roll in there in force!
I am with randy there. Lets just do the toys for tots run. I mean its a lot less work. Let someone else handle the getting it together aspect of it. We just get a 100 or so sportbikes to meet at the tree and roll there in force. Show them crusier people like old guy Ray that sportbikes are no different than them and show up for big rides intown.. Heck they got a police escort and all all we got to do is show up with a toy and ride.
Well depending on what's decided, I wouldn't mind helping out as a following vehical, seeing as how I don't have my bike yet. I have a mini-van and trailer hitch for it if someone who has a trailer wouldn't mind me taking it in tow. It would let everyone who has a bike ride as well.

The toys for tots thing is a cool thing that is being put on buy the Harley guys, which is great. This whole thing got started last year because we as sportbikers want to do something to represent us. So I think for those that want to join up for the Harley toys for tots ride that would be great. But this will not in anyway shape or form take the place of what we are trying to do. Which is to bring all of the sportbikers and groups in on getting together for a great cause. So next Thursday everyone bring your postive thoughts and input on how YOU can help this to be a success. There are probably 10 different bike groups in the area. We will need contact info. So if any of you guys know how to get a hold of someone from any of the local bike groups please bring that info with you on Thursday.

ok, since the cruiser guys have the toys for tot's, why don't we piggyback a preexisting good cause. 2 reasons, it's known and publically it will put the sport bikes in the limelight for sure. talk with channel 5's debi chard. she does the debi's kids thing every year (kinda like toys for tots, but it's local) maybe a sportbiker's for debi's kids ride. hard to lose with this, i think. the hardest part would be to get her to go for it. honest thoughts, opinions, bitches, gripes, concerns........let me know.

Sorry everyone just found out last night the site was back up.
Here is the deal. RAIN RAIN RAIN.
The toy run has been set back to next Sunday. Same times same places. This so called "fire truck" family or whatever. This is the family of the guy who a few of us pulled from that burning truck on 61 a few months ago.
Anyway I would like to thank Steve from KWS for making it out last night to Champion with a few bags of toys.
But the drive is on for next Sunday 1pm at the tree. See everyone there.

yea here's the tally. most of you have seen my 24ft trailer. it is 1/2 full! thats right 12x8 space is full! there is also 2 bikes in the wheel chalks! I am going to empty a box and give it to heidi to take to work. going to see if they can fill it in a week!
OH will be on the news tonight at 11pm ch4
Randy called this morning. Because his trailer had so many toys, he decided to do a preliminary drop off to HALO. Apparently we are the largest donation they have ever had. WAY TO GO GUYS!
From my understanding, HALO was so moved by our donation (and we still have time for more!) one of their representatives will be meeting us at the tree 1pm Sunday December 10th to offer us thanks in person.
Guys, I know its the holidays. I know you have more gifts to buy. I know sometimes it hurts to give. But just this once. Just one more time. Could you guys please bring a toy with you for a Sunday ride?

we will be stoping by cycle gear to pick up toys and then on the rode. NO this is not going to be a ride to go and sit at cycle gear all day. I have had allot of people wanting to know if "were going to ride right" the answer is yes.
Yes as Randy has said. Guys the ride is on for SUNDAY. 1pm at the tree. we will leave the tree at 2pm for cycle gear. If your not there by 2pm ask santa for a new watch so you can catch the ride next year!! We will spend around 30 to 45 mins at cycle gear then off too the ride.
And when randy says we will ride normal.....well what that means is all im a stunter riding crap is too be left till out on the back roads. Then I could care less what you guys do. Oh and if you dont know how to ride in 2 lines in one lane on the I.... learn this week. No 50 bikes spread out all over the I this weekend.
Dont mean to be harsh, but people do look at us and the way we act when we ride. Myself and Randy want to make this thing big next year. If we got a bunch of kids out there doign stupid stuff on the freeway we might not get the support we need to help out more kids next year.

When it comes to the rought I am leaving that one up to chad... chad keeps calling me with ideas..... CHAD I DONT CARE! just put a red nose on and we will follow!
The route is planed. It will be released the day of at the tree. I will tell you this plans are for us to end up at wild wings in North Charleston at around 5 oclock. I am working on getting the patio ropped off for us as we speak. There for we can walkin and eat.
The route will take us into the country and then onto I-26. Im sure when we get into the country there will be some speeding and messing around. For that reason I am not letting the route out till the day fo this event due to I not wanting to see SCHP all over us during a toy drive.
This event everyone is a on TIME event! That means have fuel in your bike. We will not be stopping at any gas stations till just before we get on I-26 too head to wild wings. This run will be around 65 miles or so.80% in the country so dont worry it will fly by.
Meet at the tree 1:00pm
leave tree for cycle gear 2:00pm
leave cycle gear for ride 3:00pm
get to wild wings to eat 4:45-5:00pm
