I might try a ride with them, but if it's anything like I've heard, I'll probably just cut off and head back home lol.

Yes, those Ninja will suprise you.
though I did ride with my eyes closed praying most of the way
You should have been praying the way your tire looked at the end of the day. Go see Patrick, he'll hook you up with some tires and get back out there. It was a good ride, though. Why does everyone talk so bad about the Sunday rides. Angie keeps up with us (We just get a break at every stop). Besides, we kept it under 200

Hey- was it you i saw last week? Must've been a wednesday night in g.c. around 10ish i believe. It was a guy on an 08-09 Fireblade and a female riding a 250. I was admiring the fireblade while trying to figure out what exhaust that was on the 250 (Leo?) all while trying to navigate thru traffic in the cage.. :smilebig:
Guess riders can become pretty distracted in the cage ourselves, lol.

That was probably Tuesday night on our way home from bike night at wings etc. My wife's bike has a full Area P exhaust, Stage 2 jet kit, K&N etc. It's probably the fastest 09 250 around:lol: and it has pink graphics!

Ahh, i believe i saw you Saturday morning at ECPS? If i'm not mistaken I've ridden with you before on a group ride with my friend Michael that works with me. It was 3 Concours and my ZX-6 lol. I had a tough time keeping up but it was fun, lol. I was going to say hello again at ECPS but you were speaking with someone for a while.

9 and 1? Bah, just lean the bitch over! I guess that's the good thing about the 500. It doesn't go fast enough to get me into too much trouble with those two turns.

I don't know what you have heard but the rides at the tree are not bad. Everyone that shows up rides at there own pace. Of course you have the few that try to ride over their head and we all know what happens then. I say show up for a ride to see for yourself.
Yeah I've played with the thought.. but every time I go, there's only like 3 of us between 1-2.. I left around 2. We'll see.. I've just heard the stories of them going 170mph or so everywhere.. lol. I wouldn't even try to keep up at that pace, I don't need any insurance cost boosters.

Know whats funny?-- BJ worried about the Sunday ride lol !
Eh, don't think that R1 would have too much trouble staying in there lmao. But I def understand where your coming from, it's alot easier (safer) to ride with people who's riding style your familiar with. The one time I went last year, it wasn't bad.. But again--- that was my one & only Sunday ride so i'm not totally familiar with what goes on.

I know the 1 or 2 times I have been out for Sunday tree rides the "ride at your own pace" thing I end up riding for 10 to 30 miles alone until I get the the spot everyone else stopped at, over and over. Hell I can do that anytime, if I go out on a group ride it is a lot more fun to be in a group. stretching the legs is nice but not for the whole ride, I will stick to the Sunday brunch ride. Plus I will likely be riding with the wife on the back on Sundays.

The Sunday tree rides were getting a little brisk for my taste too. I like to ride at reasonable speeds until I get to areas where I know the probability of patrols is very low. Nothing wrong with a little exuberance on a ride, but not for that much of a ride. Too many variables out there to treat the streets like a track day. Wheelies at a buck forty on Hwy 78 is not safe riding, and with minimal protective gear, it's downright stupid. Fun to watch, but downright stupid. One bird, dog, pothole or other factor can ruin the fun quick. Of course, at those speeds on steep shouldered tree lined roads, gear won't help too much!

I completely agree with you Surfdancer. There is a time and place for everything. I have been out to a couple of rides when they started off wheeling down I-26 which is not the place for that, so I turned around and went home. Again the rides can differ from each Sunday due to not knowing who is going to show up. The last couple of rides have been well paced and enjoyable.
All I was saying is that most of the stories you hear are not true. I would perfer to ride in the mornings, because there is less traffic and the heat is not as bad.

I agree 100%! My bike would not even think about lifting the front wheel at 140 much less getting to that speed. Maybe I'm just lame but IT IS FUN TO WATCH! :)
Now just to figure out what a "tree ride" is????
Mine will pick up at 70-80 and carry to 130-140ish... lol.. I don't know if it will pick up in third in the higher ends of the rpm range. haven't had the balls to try it that fast.. rofl. But I agree with all that's been said above.

Well you know that does happen once in a while on the Sunday rides. It's up to you guy's who know better to dictate how the ride is going to go. Next Sunday speak up and say something. I bet most of the group was not down with all that crazy stuff. The three of you who spoke up here, need to be the three who speaks up at the tree next Sunday. Don't let 1 or 2 people ruin it for everyone. There is no reason why a group of civil minded sportbike riders can't get together to have a sane and safe group ride.

I have only been to the tree a few Sundays. Twice we ended up not going anywhere due to the weather. The one Sunday that we did ride was fun, nothing too crazy. This is one of the days Patrick rode as well. One incident where someone wasn't paying attention and ran in Blue (I believe). I wouldn't hesitate to go out on another tree ride, my bike only goes as fast as I twist the throttle and there are always people who are willing to hang back. Everyone gets to the same place it just might be in a couple groups. Course I am up for one of the brunch rides as well, maybe this Sunday, if I get my ass out of bed.

All this shit talking about the tree ride is BS and what I think is funny is that 90% of the people who talk shit about the tree ride have never been on one. You can't blame the ride it is the people. I have been going to the tree for 6 plus years now and can count the incidents that I have seen and always it was someone who didn't listen to what we have said about riding your own ride. And I can say that I was there just about every weekend until I got too busy to make them all.
The next thing that they don't ride at the tree because they don't want to go that fast or don't want to do wheelies and etc and the next post they are doing wheelies and carrying them form 70 to 140 mph. I will be the first to say that i will strecth it out when i am in the mood, now does that mean the next guy should? No, but you do have some people who think that they have to prove something. Like the the guy who gets passed by a 600 and thinks that because he is riding a 1000 he shouldn't be in the back. But doesn't realize that the guy on the 600 has been riding for years and what not.
The next thing is that if you guys think that the tree ride is too fast, then 6 yrs ago you really would have shit your pants. Hell I own a sportbike because i like the brisk pace if i just wanted to ride around town i would have a vespa. And out of the 150 plus tree rides that i have been on I think there pay have been 10 or so accidents.
All this shit talking about the tree ride is BS and what I think is funny is that 90% of the people who talk shit about the tree ride have never been on one.
Chris is totally right here. The only time stupid shit happens is when people go out there trying to prove something or ride beyond their limits. I was at the tree last Sun. and no one was there at all, though. Dave is right about it dying. We need to get it up and going again. When the right people are there, it is one of the safest, most organized rides I've ever been on. My wife rides her 250 out there and she has never had a problem. Hell, I went on the Sun. brunch ride for about ten minutes and I got left in the dust. Those guys are crazy! Actually, I went in to the gas station to take a leak when we stopped to get gas and came out and everyone was gone. Thanks for leaving me Jason and Mike. I already bitched Chris out Sunday at Wings. The guys at the tree never would have done that. :crying: I had a feeling you guys didn't like me.

Sorry Mike, I'm not into that fetish, yet. When I get your age, maybe :lol: Good idea with the head count :alright:
Sounds like I'm being called out. rofl. I wasn't talking shit about the tree ride, I was stating what I've HEARD and I'm sure I've made that clear at least once or twice. Wheelies? I have no problems with them, but don't do them behind my back. Go where I can see you, so you don't plow my ass from the rear and take me down with you.
And I never said I didn't like to go fast or didn't like wheelies.. But when they're running 70ish through goose creek it gets rediculous (I've seen this first hand.) If you're going to stretch your legs, there's a time and a place.. Middle of a town is NOT the place.
Anyhow, think what you want.. If you are going to call me out.. At least do it by name. No hard feelings, you're taking what's being said all out of proportion. But you have your views, I have mine.. Not looking to start a flame war out of this, and hopefully this is the last to be said about it. I respect you and respect your views, but I know you have to know something about what I'm talking about.

Aww, i thought it may have been dying. I go to church sunday mornings so I'm not able to make the brunch rides.. And even then- the gf likes to make sunday afternoon's 'her days'. So even tho it's tough to get out to the tree ride, I'm still trying to make it to a few. I'd get SO excited seeing all those bikes together Sunday's on my way home. 06-09-2009, 03:58 PM
for me i never really cared for the tree rides at least not two up which is how I am normally riding....
plus the few times i've been we stood around for about an hour....then had to get gas....then road like balls for about an hour or two and then everyone split up.....
im not saying we dont wait around meeting at brunch its just that i like to eat and drink (sweet tea or water) and if im gonna wait around for anyone i'd prefer to do it in the ac enjoying my meal and good conversation than under a hot ass tree in gear as my significant other complains about having nothing to do....
being able to sit down with everyone gives me a chance to actually talk to everybody and get to know them a little better which I rarely get to really do on bike nights...i realize its selfish....
the best thing about the tree used to be if you didn;t know anyone and you rode eventually you would see 30 bikes under that tree on a sunday and be thinking i need to stop in there ....and then you become part of the group.....awesome.....
of course now we just have to be more proactive in directing new people to this site so they catch all the kewl things everyone is trying to put on around here...and not just a chance encounter with a coupla bikes under "the TREE".
ie like track days...sales promotions....rides....events....whatever..
also, shirts will be available next tuesday...not sure on the cost but they will be inexpensive...

That's not a good excuse:lol: I just make my wife ride her bike to church and she doesn't have a choice after that. Sundays are her days too, I just don't have to talk, listen or shop with her. I do have to wait for her, though. Better than being a bitch and not riding :alright:

A few people are interested in going on some kind of ride this weekend. It would be cool if we could all get together like old times and do a tree ride or something like that. Since it's labor day weekend, most of us should be able to make this work. It doesn't have to be anything crazy, just a nice cruise. What do you guys think? You mean people still ride at the tree? on the road? The past couple of times I went to the tree there was no one there so I am looking at selling the R6 and turning the GSXR into a track bike with no street riding anymore.

Had so much fun today!! I finally was able to find a sitter who could stay over night to watch kids, woohoo! :w00t:Today was taken on a ride that has very nice corners. Jason says i did very well while he screamed thru those curves.:D I sure felt like i was going to need large bandages on my knees , so that's what he does! Needless to say, I was starting to think he had imaginary friends. He says "got to be at the tree at 830pm, bye" Well, after riding fri and sat night to that famous tree and there was no one there, his sanity came into question. He tells me stories of who he rides with and i'm thinking, "no one is at this tree, do these people exist or are they imaginary friends with names of real people?":chin:
If I ride again on fri and sat night and there are real people out there to go with these name, come keep us company. Or else i may have new wall hanging, :lmao:. Hmmm, that chasis will need some major support to hang off the wall,
All else said, BEST DAY OF MY LIFE!!

no.. ash...
coming around a left corner, black car came in his lane, so he had to go wider, then lean more.. and more.. and eventually started dragging parts.... rode it all the way to the ground but ran out of clearance/road/etc...
hes just fine.. had gear on.
bike got tossed into a tree, tank first, but doesnt look too bad. being an 02, it may be an insurance total, or it may be fixable, it was too covered in mud to tell.
saw the whole thing in my rearview mirror.. i just missed the car, and was looking behind me.... not a great feeling to see your friends bike shoot off into a tree.... but hes alright. bikes are just bikes, and he has the zx10 to ride in the meantime.

I was about 100 feet behind him and came up just as I saw the splash of his bike going into the ditch. I didn't see him until the last second and thought he was seriously hurt so I just parked it and ran up to him. He was only trying to get out of the mud but the way he was moving it looked like he was really hurt. It sucks we didn't think about running the car down but at that time we were all worried that he got hurt.

I go slow down GBR and make sure any new comers see the road at a safe speed and warn of the bad corners. After that its their choice if they want to risk it. I figure its better to show them in a safe manner so they can at least see it before some squid gets them to go out there at full speed and they never been on it.

We rode the Biedler Forest loop, Seven Mile road, and the run from Dorchester through Givhans Ferry State Park. Nice ride - no drama (not much anyway ). I keep thinking I'm fighting for a position in a figure 8 race. These roundabouts are nuts. Fun, nonetheless, but nuts. Sharon is flying out today, to hang out with me for a week. I'm driving to Scotland after work tomorrow, to see the Crawford castle ruins in the town of Crawford. (Where my family originated from) The castle was built in the 1100's. Charleston has some old stuff, but nothing like this.

Dan, would definitely like to come out and see you guys but I won't be getting into England until next Thursday, only for the day. I get to come home for the weekend for the beerfest then it is back out the following week.

i don't think the roundabouts there are as bad as the ones i used to drive around when i lived in Qatar. there, the roundabouts have 3 lanes, and the inside lane has the right of way. if you're in the inside lane, whenever you get to the exit you want, you just go. i have no idea how i din't die driving over there...

I get to come home for the weekend for the beerfest then it is back out the following week. I have to work on Thursday until 5 pm, so I wouldn't be free until after that. Sharon does not know yet, but I may be here for another 2-3 weeks and coming home October 8th or October 15th.:crap:

Many of the roundabouts I go through to and from work are 3 lanes wide. Just about all of them are clearly marked. Stay far left for the first exit at 90deg., centre lane for the second exit at 180 deg., and the far right lane for the third exit at 270deg.
