Well the last couple sundays I went out not too many turned out. I decided not to even ride both times. I think alot of people are racing in Savannah this weekend and a few people are planning on riding down sunday to watch/hang out. Don't think this weekend will be very good but maybe next weekend will be better.

Mike, is it possible to put this as a reoccurance on the calendar. This way new riders will know when and where we normally meet up?

I can't make it a reoccurring event, but I will make it an announcement, so it'll always be near the very top in this forum.

The first one has my vote. It gives lays a foundation of whats expected. I always like Barry's preride speeches because everytime he gives one, I learn something new. For example, as silly and trivial as it seemed, I had no idea about passing on left.

Just got off the phone with Melissa. She and her bike are ok. Her first Sunday ride went well with the exception of one minor spill. She really enjoyed herself and meeting some of you. She is looking forward to doing it again soon.
Thank you, Bryan, for keeping pace with her and making sure she was ok.

Thanks Ket. I had so much fun. It was very helpful to see other riding styles and how everyone interacts. Even with the spill, I enjoyed the ride. I want to say thank you to everyone who helped me get my bike up and stayed in the back with me. Big thank yous to Kat and Bryan for staying with me the whole time. I look forward to going out again. I am hoping for a beautiful weekend next weekend so I can go again.
Thanks :)

Howdy folks! This Sunday March 26th who is interested in getting together early to ride? We had several folks who talked about getting up early for a change to do breakfast, and then go for a ride. Since several of us are going to Dave's house at 2:00 PM on Sunday to watch the Moto GP races, why don't we do a this! Another thing I will map out a new road that we haven't taken in a long, long, long time if you all are interested. So let's say meet for breakfast at 10:30 am. Then we can leave for a ride around 11:30 or 12:00 to ride until 2:00pm or so. So who's in?

"Giving"? That's an ultimatum Steve. Now why would you do that over something as trivial as which Shoney's we go to? We're getting together to hang out and enjoy each other's company. The location is secondary. They both have "FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD", so what's the problem?

Since Randy is the one who came up with the idea to eat at Shoney's then SUMMERVILLE it is. We are going to go on a ride in that area afterwards anyway. Randy can you call on Saturday to let them know we are coming, and we plan to have about 25 in our group. I counted about 15 on this forum and 10 possible stragglers to come up with the 25. You are going to get there early to procure the table to, right? So everyone Shoney's Summerville at 10:00 this Sunday, March 26th. I'll see you there.
Hmm, so... you'll be leaving work around 1:30 today, and won't be able to check the thread after that?

Today's ride was ok. We did have one rider go down, to what was apparently a mechenical malfunction - his front tire deflated rapidly. He was on a straight, and was able to scrub off enough speed to wind up in a low speed lowside. Thanks to gear his injuries are minimal. The bike fared much worse, suffering quite a bit of cosmetic damage.
As for the tire, by the time I got to look at it, it was off the bead, and completely deflated. Rotating and feeling out the tire didn't reveal any obvious gouges or cuts. Re-inflating the tire should reveal the problem. As is, I'm guessing that either the stem broke off, or there's a cut in the sidewall; I forgot to check those while checking out the tread.

Rapid tire deflation? I've only seen that at Daytona, someone tell this new guy to stop backing it in. Weather it was rider error or mechanical I'm glad he's okay. Thanks Randy for coming to pick him up, I know he appreciated it. We ended up doing a lot of waiting around first for lead guys that ran off on us and then the accident. After all that it wasn't to bad. Allen's buddy Damon had his new 06 750 out there. I was suprised to see that it was hanging right in there with the gixxer 1000's.

uhh yea a guy on a cbr1000rr hit him in the tail. both went down both bikes are pretty fubar. talked to allen today he's doing fine, both parties were pretty good for as bad as the wreck was. just some strawberrys and bits of rash. both went home..we waited for the cops for 3 hours and Still had to go meet them.
Yeah, I'm ok. This guy A$$ Packed me. I don't know how fast he was going but it felt like he was hauling ass. I was several seconds off the throttle when he slammed into me. I'll be at the tree today for everyone who can make it. I hope to see you there.
I believe I caught up to you guys on Ashley Phosphate about 1400.
I was on a silver Kawasaki 650r, with soft saddlebags [it's my commuter and I was just out for a spin]. I kinda hopped in on the ride around the merge to Dorchester Road. Hope noone minded.
Then I dropped out once you guys got into the back roads and dropped the hammer. Yeah, I'm a wuss- only been riding for about 45 days and didn't want to cause a problem. Ya'll's pace was too fast for me, and you all seemed to know each other's riding, and I was a wildcard in that situation and wasn't comfortable on all those curves with such close quarters bike-to-bike. So I backed off. Sorry if I got in anyone's way-- I tried keeping it to the speedlimit and staying to the right side of the lane, and signaling for you guys I was holding up to pass me. One fellow came up beside me and kinda did this side to side thing with his hand- not sure what he was trying to tell me- I think I was staying pretty straight in my lane. Could have been asking if I was ok with the curves, telling me to stagger my formation with the other bikes [prety sure I was], or something else entirely. If you're reading this, let me know.
So- given all that, thought it best to bail out. Not my ride, I'm not gonna ride it. I do apologize if I ticked anyone off- if so, please realize it was from ignorance on my part- having not gone on a group ride yet- and certainly wasn't just being a stupid squid to be an asshole about it.
So-- if I screwed up, tell me what I did and it won't happen again. To my credit, I think backing off was the best thing to do, lest I rehash what that kid did a few weeks ago and take someone out.
Yeah, maybe I'm a wuss for backing off. That's entirely fine for me- I'm a living wuss, and I don't have to deal with knowing I hurt anyone or their machinery. ;)
Scotty2
08-13-2006, 06:20 PM
Yeap that was us. You did the right thing for you, by not riding over your head. The only thing we ask is let someone know before you bail. We take a head count everytime we stop and if we are a bike short we send someone back to see if they went down. SOP for this group!!
So just give someone the Hi-sign before you peel off.
yeah, noticed I kinda pooched the headcount when the lead man came up +1 on his original number. Sorry 'bout that-- I asked the tailgunner if it was ok if I hopped in, he said it was cool.
I just don't want to start any bad habits for groupriding, so if anyone saw the stranger on the silver 650r doing anything stupid, dangerous, or even mildly annoying, let me hear about it!
good call not rollin faster than you feel you can... yea you might have screwed the head count but thats the good way to screw it. you dont want to know the bad.
I can imagine the bad- and that's why I bailed.
How's your recovery coming, by the way? I think you're the guy that had a little situation on a jetski recently?
Ahh man really well...Im kinda stoked about it. I had my last surgery so any pain i feel or swelling i have to deal with will be the last. It kinda sucked before because last time when i would heal i knew that in a week or two i would be hating life again. but now that im done im about.....2 days away from all the swelling going away and well im pretty much out of pain now. so WHOO HOO!

Yea like Scott said give us a clue that your going to drop off or something. We waited and sent a guy back to look for you. We didn't know if your were off in a ditch or something. You did the right thing by not riding over your head, but remember if you ride with us it's never a requirement that you ride any faster than your comfortable with. We will always wait for you at the next intersection or stop sign. BTW I was the guy beside you that was signaling that the road ahead had a lot of curves. The next time we meet up at the tree if your there, someone should show you some of the hand signals that most of us use while riding with a group. Don't feel like your out of your element because your new to motorcycling. All of us have been there at one point. If you have questions just ask. If your not ready to ride with a big group yet that's cool too. Go at your own pace.
awesome, Barry. I kinda had a feeling that might be you, and what you were asking me.

Sure, I may look like an overstuffed, retarded Power Ranger in my gear-- but I'll always wear it. I'm an ATGATT rider-- at least to the extent that I have gear. Am looking for boots and overpants at present.
I've got a large head, and it's shaped wierd to boot-- so that was fun trying to fit properly-- and I'm finding that gloves, boots, and the rest are similar. Gee, ya mean I'm not 22 and built like I was when I was in the Infantry so many years ago?
BTW- who was on the BMW, and what bike was it? NIIIICE!!
SUM650
08-15-2006, 09:00 AM
I forgot his name but that was a nice bike. He said that BMW only made that model for 2 years 03 and 04. His roomie was on the cbr 600 and he had only been riding for 2 months or so. They both rode very well and stayed within there limits. JAFO you were talking about boots. I think that boots are very important. I've seen a lot of street wrecks and usually if they wear sneakers they are most always torn half way off there feet and there big toe gets broken. Sneakers just don't hold up in accidents. Your on the right track, invest in a decent set of motorcycle boots, they are designed to protect your toes and ankles as well as your feet.
that's the problem I'm having- I have wide feet and am having trouble finding boots that fit my calves and feet equally well. Looks like I'll probably end up going with something lace-up like the Harley Davidson boots [which don't impress me with their lack of ankle protection], or just get a set of steel-toed combat boots.
Actually, if I could find a set of combats with ankle armor I'd be happy- at least they'd be comfortable enough to wear all day. Time being, I'm either wearing jungle boots or desert combats-- neither have much ankle support owing to the canvas uppers, but at least they're not going to be ripped off my feet.
Sorry to veer offtopic.
Contact matt or cbrjunkie at champion yami in mt pleasant ask about the sidi vertigo corsica's these things crash REAL well... A buddy of mine is 6ft8in and he got a boot to fit him.
thanks for the info. I'll look into it.
I'd like to avoid going sidi if at all possible-- I understand they're not really a walking-around boot. Plus they're a bit in the stratosphere in terms of price I want to spend.
Still and all, if I gotta, I gotta. I'll see what they have to say. Thanks!

One more note, combat boots maybe good for war but the don't hold up well in crashes either. A buddy of mine was doing a standup that went bad several years ago and his ankle was broken pretty bad. You should have seen his boot. If he would have had a motorcycle boot on he probably would have come out a lot better. Sidi has several boots starting from $75. Here is a link to check them out.

outstanding, Barry! I owe ya beer! :D
I know combats aren't ideal- but they're the best I have at present
I have seen 3 accidents with the sidi's coming out show room looking. 1 where porto rode the bike on its side for almost 50 yards and all it did was destroy a airvent and a little piece of the toe. after i saw that....SOLD!
ok, point well made. Now just gotta find some to fit my boats :D
EDIT: caught a deal on some SIDI B-2 race boots, so I bought 'em. Can't believe how comfy they are, what with being Italian and presumably narrower than one would expect.
Yeah, putting race boots on me, on that bike, is kinda like putting a full pressure garment and G-suit on a Cessna pilot-- but at least I know I've got very good leg protection :D

What do you all think about this. Starting this Sunday for the tree ride we will be meeting at 1:00 or earlier if you pefer and leaving PROMPTLY at 1:30 pm. Since we are losing daylight lets do what we came together for and ride. No matter who rides on Sunday, someone just needs to make the call and say it's 1:30 lets roll out!

Good luck trying to get everyone to do that. I remeber trying it last year and no one bought into it. Just make the call at 130 and say we're leaving since most of the time your leading the ride anyway.
We have tried this before.. After about 3 weeks it catches on. only prob is.. getting people there BEFORE 1:30. Will make this a point friday night. I mean damn we can get 20 some bikes at the mall between 9:30 and were out no later than 10.. why cant we do it on sunday???

I cannot believe that you didn't show up Chris M. Chris Wilkerson. said that he had talked to you earlier in the week or something of the sort. He had definitely been planning to come out, and he thought you would be doing the same. When I told everyone that I just talked to Chris M. on the phone and he was tied up " working on his boat motor" you should have heard the laughs. Randy and Chris Wilkerson were talking so much smack that I just couldn't take it anymore. Randy really should be something like a WWF wrestling junk talking guy. I give him the credit, he is good at it, and Chris M. not showing up gave him a lot of ammo! Well I guess it's settled, Randy proclaims that he has already beat up un Chris M. several times to win his title, so he isn't calling him out anymore. Chris Wilkerson said that he will never persue chances to run Chris M. again. He has done everythink but begged Chris M. to come out to race! When they were talking smack they had a title for people who wouldn't show up to run and it wasn't street King!
