I have been chatting with a few of the Kart guys on their forum and it sounds really cool .... They are willing to bend over backwards for you to get you in a Kart.... The Kart scene here in the southeast is a lot bigger than I have imagined....

This event at roebling is the weeken after the rolex race in Daytona....
I would have to find a driving suit for Karting as they use Cordura and the helmet spec is a little different from the bikes .... I am going to try and pull it off ..... Renting a Kart ..... The dollar to lap time spent is crazy (cheap) when compared to the bikes or building a "real sports car" .....

Something new , I am going to check it out even in the event I do not rent a Kart .....

These guys are lapping roebling in the 1 minute 17-22sec range .....

This I have to witness firsthand .....

I'll be there for sure .....

You can enter your kids at age 11 !!!!!!!

Any more info on this? Does the $350 include the track day or do you have to rent the kart and pay for the track day?

$350 is for Kart hire only .... All other costs such as practice, entry fee, gate pass etc are not included.... Driver must also have snell 2000 approved helmet.... These guys compete with cordura suits and I will find out if motorcycle related 2 piece unit is sufficient....

Smile and drive is $700.00 per day and includes a private tuner ....

I'll look for equipment hire also ....

Stay tuned .....

Kart event :

License fee good for 1 year $75.00

Race Entry: $75.00 ($50.00 each additional)

Practice day $65.00 (4 classes split 1 hour sessions/ 15 min each)

Kart hire with assistance $500.00 per day
$350.00 for Kart only
(this is for 2 day hire)

Gear: Cordura 2 piece motorcycle will suffice
(not as comfortable as real karting suit)
$150-400.00 for driving suit made of cordura from sparco

Helmet: $300.00-900.00
Gloves: $50.00
Shoes: $60.00-150.00

Tires: $12.50-30.00 (Cheap!!!!!)

When renting a Kart without assistance you need to have a helper with you to load and unload the kart from the stand... You will also need to bring your own tools and chemicals as well... The driver will be responsible for the maintenance of the kart as well as tire pressure and fuel.... Kart will be returned in clean condition just as it was received. ..

Novice driver's are limited to which class that they compete in until sanctioning body determines driver's ability. For the most part if you have previous competition license for motorcycles they will speed up your processing....

The 125 shifter karts are about the fastest things out there and the guys are driving for blood.... Without the experience it is said to be a lot like just unloaded your girlfriend at the track with a bike and telling her to just have at it. The 125 guys are fast and aggressive, don't like to drive around newbee's , which we can all understand....

I think the fun factor of this will be pretty damn high ....

I hope some of you can check it out ....

There are also a lot of endurance Kart races with 4 stroke honda's ....
They range from 4-24 hour events and no training needed... Just pay up and drive ....

For those of you looking to do a track day with your personal street car there are a number of outlets for that..... All will require your first 4 track events to be done with an instructor.... Gordon King (my old man) is available at a number of Porsche club and Bmw Club events ..... Look him up and he could give you all the low down of what is needed to prep the car and the events you would be able to drive in .....

Great info! I'm really considering doing this event. The cost isn't too bad and would tons of fun with a few friends. Anyone else like to get in on this? Derek, are you doing this event for sure?

I would love to do this, but in motorcycle language that would cost me at least two sets of tires for this race season.

I'll be there for sure .....

As for renting a ride it's still a toss up ....

I have to let them know in two weeks, so the money tree is going to have to come crashing down ....

The Shade Tree has a lot of bills and there are still a lot of service tickets unpaid..... These guys know who they are and I hope to see them soon !!!!!

I am trying to pull it off...... Even if I can't drive I will be there to watch ......

It should happen though...(Kart Rental)

I'll let you know when they get the check !!!!!!

Karts at this event were turning 1:14's in 125 Shifter class.... A lot of these Kart classes have Weight limits to include Kart and Driver ....

125 Shifter class is 380 lbs Kart and Driver..... Many are running ballasts...

There were a pack of 14 cars you could have covered with a 20 foot canopy.... they were driving 4 wide by three rows in the draft up the straight....

These guys do not use the brakes in turn one !!!!!!

They don't hit them until the middle of 1 into two....

They come into 3 at 114 mph!!!!!

It was crazy..... After about 8 laps the field had settled itself out.... There were still 8 guys going for it until 3 crashed out .....

We also saw to guys run into each other and off in three at over 90 mph....
The 1st driver attempts to pass on the inside of 3, the second driver gives him no room and shuts the door.... 1st driver than drops the left front into the dirt on the inside of turn three and knocks the other driver into a spin.... Airborn kart then drifts all the way up to the inside barrier near turn four..... And drives away.... now there is dirt and body work still on the track.... the rest of this lay down feild come through turn three to find a lot of sand and this body panel chicane ..... It was awsome..... these guys were sliding at over 90 mph and barley saving it..... One after the other.... about 12 in all...... then the driver of the #71 Kart is screaming through there in turn 3........ hits the sand........ losses it big time.......spins the car 2 complete revolutions and still keeps it on the track.....drives off not to be passed by the next kart and keeps going..... These particular race was lay down style karts, they look weird but they are no joke...... They tuck the front end with all this understeer and then drift the rear when catching up on the throttle.... 1974 Yamaha KT 100cc 2 stroke motor.... They are cool.... I wanted to compete in this weekends event but, money was not available to me to pull it off when I needed to secure the Kart before the 2 week cut off prior to event..... I would have thought having to compete in a non shifter kart would be lame because I only had novice status..... NO WAY......You don't know until you go and if anyone offers you the chance to drive one take it!!!!!!!! I had a guy reply to me after I made a post on the southern karting Klub.... He offered the same KT 100cc kart that I mentioned earlier.... He would have let me have the thing for his cost in consumables only just to get another guy in the class...... I think to myself about the guys racing in the WERA vintage classes at their national and reply, "I'll let you know"..... In all my usual fashion I don't make contact with him......I am after all ex professional racer boy and the thought of driving some old kart doing 1:26's was not going to get me off ...... Well I am after all an idiot...... I missed out and will have to pull this off another time......

Check out southernkarting.com
A lot of really cool people on there I met this weekend.

I think a Cornerjunkies.com endurance kart team would be fun. They do them with Honda 4 stroke CVT transmission down in West Palm beach at moroso motorsports park...... 4-6-8 hour events with 4 drivers..... Could be a lot of fun......

Kart rentals can still be had for other wka/southern karting events.....
I'll post pics of this weekends event and some links later......

Ahem, if I can find a chassis there is a class for Super Karts.....
(ie. 250cc Grand Prix motorcycle engines......... :chin: )
There was one of them out there powered by a 98 Honda RS 250.....
The drop and swap of the 250 engine from bike to kart is about 3 hour ordeal, life is good ......

Now if Letterman would just get the money for that Champ Car team.......

Very long and can help the newbies figure their war around Roebling .....

Turn the sound off, if you don't have slayer or morbid angel on hand in your collection you'll want to pick them up after you are forced to listen to the
music attatched to video......

Fair quality , Check it out ,
