Default ATMs hacked at Navy Federal Credit Union, First Federal and Wachovia

This is for real. Several of my coworkers were just hit with this, losing money from their accounts. Money was pulled from Ukraine.

"Several team members from * and * have reported this morning that their bank accounts have been hacked at Navy Federal Credit Union, First Federal and Wachovia.
For all team members who are contractors, if you are victimized by this, please work thru your company's security office to document it, to protect your security clearances.

For all * government team members, if you are victims of this, please respond to me with an email, and we will work with the * security office to document, to protect your security clearance."

I doubt a bunch of people gave out their info all at the same time. Hacking a bank seems to be happening pretty frequent. remember this one from just few months ago, read the whole article for a few others that have happened. banks say they have good security but nothing is 100%. Even if it never connects online, or even if it is never powered on it is still not 100% safe.

It even took them almost 2 months to admit they got hacked. Nov 8th it happened and they did not report it till Dec 23rd.
Global ATM Caper Nets Hackers $9 Million in One Day

http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2009/02/atm/

Quote:
A carefully coordinated global ATM heist last November resulted in a one-day haul of $9 million in cash, after a hacker penetrated a server at payment processor RBS WorldPay, New York’s Fox 5 reports.

RBS WorldPay announced on December 23 that they’d been hacked, and personal information on approximately 1.5 million payroll-card and gift-card customers had been stolen. (Payroll cards are debit cards issued and recharged by employers as an alternative to paychecks and direct-deposit.) Now we know that account numbers and other mag-stripe data needed to clone the debit cards were also compromised in the breach.

At the time, the company said it identified fraudulent activity on only 100 cards, making it sound like small beans. But it turns out the hacker managed to lift the withdrawal limits on those 100 cards, before dispatching an global army of cashers to drain them with repeated rapid-fire withdrawals. More than 130 ATMs in 49 cities from Moscow to Atlanta were hit simultaneously just after midnight Eastern Time on November 8.

My first fed account is as usual. I was broke before the hack and I still am.

OH MY GOD! I just got a letter in the mail from First Federal. My account has been reopened and my new balance is $112,852.54!!! WTF LOL

Sucks, Glad I close FF acct, thought they were a little to wide open.

I had a friend a few months ago whose card numbers got stolen. Someone setup a mini cam at the ATM and nabbed like 30 numbers before they got caught. Several thousands of dollars lost.
